They are completely different. This was intended as a lighthearted presentation of it. Basil Rathbone was also far from a faithful representation of the literary character with his gloomy and devoid of any sense of humor demeanor. Also, the character of Dr. Watson in the Rathbone series was terrible. In the book he was not a bumbling, senile fool. Some argue that the late Jeremy Brett was the best Sherlock Holmes, but he was also unfaithful to the book with his emotionally explosive character (perhaps his real life bipolar malady added to it), I don't think you can find "the best" among Sherlock Holmes, like you potentially might with David Suchet as Inspector Poirot, or Joan Hickson as Miss Marple (later Geraldine McEwan was also fantastic, but the script in that series was borderline criminal, so it caused people to forget her).

I like Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett, but I have to say that Ronald Howard is TERRIFIC in this series. And H. Marion Crawford as Dr. Watson is good, too. Can't beat this vintage tv series. Thanks for uploading, FEATURE FILM.

I disagree with you. Though Ronald Howard & Basil Rathbone are great actors of Holmes, so is Jeremy Brett!

I think the Ron Howard Holmes is closer to the Holmes of the Doyle canon than either Rathbone or Brett.
