Yes, Ronald Howard's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes should be ranked as one of if not THE best. H. Marion Crawford is also impeccable as Dr Watson. I am so glad to have discovered these episodes. They both would have excelled in full length Sherlock Holmes episodes.

Crazy to see that Ronald Howard’s version of Sherlock Holmes is not in anyone’s top 10 Sherlock Holmes actors of all time lists on the net. It’s a fact look it up.How crazy is that.He brings a must needed tone of levity to a character mostly played very seriously over the years. This actor needs and deserves much more respect than he’s been givin. He’s in my top 5.Where do all of you rate him?..We must get Mr.Ronald Howard his Justice and Revenge.

Each Holmes was unique. Brett was great, but the truth is that Brett was actually mentally ill when doing Holmes. He was even hospitalized in a mental hospital a number of times during the series. In fact, in the last season, he was almost out of control, actually thinking he WAS Holmes. Thus his impulsive, neurotic Holmes characterization. Rathbone on the other hand played Holmes as a deadly serious, almost humorless character. Then we get Howard's Holmes, played almost like a child let loose in a toy shop.

Maharaj'as' or Raja's'..true established Kings from over uncountable years of history of Bharat (known commonly as India) would NOT dress like that...that's more of the dressing sense of badshahs mughals or arabs. Because of the pigeon feathers. Maharajs never wear pigeon feathers, only a stately tied headpiece with jewels, pearl strings or such... There's a huge difference.

Absolutely delightful. Each episode seems better than the one before. The actors playing Holmes and Watson found just the right balance of humor and drama, with the scale leaning more toward wit and dry humor. I think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be most pleased and highly amused by this incarnation of his famous detective. Watson's Maharaja costume looks most becoming on him. Almost didn't recognize him. Also, the scene where Holmes is busy conning the conman while Watson is being fed grapes by his "harem" was so funny, I couldn't keep from laughing!

This is a great show with wit, Jeremy Brett was the perfect Holmes, Cumberbatch was really wonderful, and Basil Rathbone a classic. Plus all the Watsons are wonderful in their own ways. there's a few Holmes actors i think are just horrible, but i wouldn't put them or anyone else's choice down. a very good actor/actress can do a terrible job with one character and absolutely nail all others - character actors included.

What you say may be true about "hailed as the most faithfully filmed . . . . " I don't agree because I personally find Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce to be the most wonderfully real and perfectly acted Sherlock Holmes. Anything else is degraded by each new interpretation. However, This series is very nice, well done, a bit too comical yet entertaining and reasonably believable. It is very worth watching, so on that I do recommend to those who love Sherlock Holmes. I prefer Basil's and Nigel's way of calling the inspector's name. This series always gives me a moment of hesitation before I get it as the inspector. Thanks for the stories.

I completely disagree. While I love the Rathbone/Bruce movies as movies and yes, as that they are probably superior. The big issue is Watson, who is faithfully portrayed in this series while being completely off the mark when played by Bruce. This is not about entertainment, mind you, it is about being faithful in adaptation. This is Holmes and Watson, the other is Holmes and some kind of British Jerry Lewis character.
