Just thinking about the possibility of it being an actual cup that teams could compete for, and remembering that it's what it gets called in the NBA, "In-Season Cup" is such a terrible name.. needs to have a name with some prestige to it, it might also be worth opening it up to the AHL as well since part of the charm of the FA Cup is how teams in the lower leagues could get a deepish run and pulling off upsets. The format should be either pure knockout single game or aggregate score over 2 games (home and away), rather than best of 7s. It'd also require some sorta reward for winning, since FA Cup winners get entry to the Europa Cup. Not sure what that reward would look like since there isn't the equiv of multiple top leagues as there is across Europe. There is also the problem of there being simply too many games in a season. Such cups work in football because teams only play 2 games per team in their division, so there's space in the calendar for additional things like domestic and continental cups.
