The inaugural flight for a new Freewing B-2 Bomber-What can go wrong? Excited pilot with a new toy!

John just got this B-2 bomber from Freewing. Like most of us, we get very excited about our new planes particularly those as unusual as a B-2 plane. Today was the day to maiden this complex plane that looks very simple at a quick glance. It isn't.

For those of us that worked on the development of the B2 Spirit over 40 years ago... especially the scaled model and wind tunnel testing... congrats to Freewing for making a beautiful RC to grace our skies.

Nice flying! Congrats on the maiden. Really smooth take off! Had to turn the sound off aftet a while. The little nitro buzzing around didnt do justice to the B2. 🤣

That's awesome. I loved how they stayed true to the original form. Many times they cheat a bit for better stability which makes sense but wow, beautiful plane!

I think they did cheat a little. Notice how the split aileron/ spoiler was partially deployed on both sides when flying straight. This would gives it some innate directional stability at the cost of efficiency.

@@txkflier yeah, and modern 3-axis flight stabilization has come a long way. That said, a wing like this isn't exactly EASY to fly either I'd wager.

Flying wings aren’t inherently unstable, but they have very bad stall & spin recovery characteristics. Horton and Northrop’s original designs were all manually piloted.

@@enginerdy The N-9M and YB-35 had prop shafts above the wing that had fairings under them that were essentially vertical tails. The YB-49 had 8 vertical tails, 4 above and 4 below the wing located on the inside and outside of the engines. So, the Northrop wings probably did have some yaw stability. All three used clamshell drag rudders near the wingtips for yaw control. Since the hinge line of them is swept back, leaving them partially open adds to the yaw stability. As one wingtip moves ahead of the other, the drag on it increases while the drag decreases on the one that’s lagging. It works, but drag is not a very efficient way to stabilize an aircraft. It’s also not good to mess with the airfoil shape at the wingtip.

What a thing of Beauty! A totally beautiful aircraft! AND, she's so quiet, with the fans internal there isn't another modern RC out there that is as beautiful as this! I want one SO BAD, the B-2 Spirit is already an aircraft that stuns just by the way she looks, and her performance is just as graceful, when the new 6th Generation FIghter aircraft comes out, I wager it will be just as stunning, I can barely wait, but for now I guess I will have to make due with scale models of the aircraft. thanks for sharing the inaugural flight with us!

Great decoy. If I were the US Air Force I would buy 3000 of these, a send five in front of any real B2 flight. With the right paint and tuning, I'm sure you could make the radar return exactly, the same. Of course the range and speed would be different. Maybe you could load a batch of them onto a refuelling plane, then dump them out the back door, as soon as the B2 is done getting it's top up.
