I only have one thing to say about this album: I'M DRAWING THE LINE I'M DRAWING THE LINE I'M DRAWING THE LINE Edit: Some thoughts on this album; I like it, but I feel as though the concept could have been executed better and tied together somehow. I also think Yellow Windows and Time Flies (while awesome) should have been on the second disk because it just doesn't really fit, even if it is incredible.

I remember when this record came out. I, unfortunately, became a Porcupine Tree fan in 2007 after all of their major works had already been released. I fell in love with In Absentia and Deadwing (specifically Lazarus being one of the most important songs in my life). I looooved listening to this record because it was the only time I got to be a part of a 'new record' phase for them. I got to see them on their tour in 2010, and I have an "The Incident Tour" hoodie that I still wear all the time. 11+ years and it's still in perfect condition. While the Incident might not be my *favorite* record from Porcupine Tree (or Steven Wilson's solo stuff), it is one of the most important works because it was the only time I got to be a part of the fandom before Steven went on to put out The Raven and H.C.E.

I wonder why nobody ever talks how Steven gone drop A on the title track and *DROP FUCKIN D OCTAVE DOWN* on Bonnie The Cat. That breakdown riff is brutal af thanks to Gavin. This album holds their darkest riffs for sure.

I saw this performed live in Dallas and was standing pretty close to the stage and when they hit those opening notes....BAMMM! It hit me in the chest and about knocked me off my feet. My goodness that was awesome. Really enjoy this album and haven't played it enough lately. Time to break out the LP and give it a spin.

I'm late here to this video. But I just had to add, I LOVE The Incident album. It's one of my top 3 PT albums. Maybe it's because my version of the album had all the songs (including the 4 bonus) on one cd rather than two. So I got to listen to all of the great songs in one listen. Great album! I also think you over analyzed the concept behind the album. Steven Wilson said they are a series of individual incidents, not one singular story. When I listen to it, I'm not trying to connect the stories, I'm just listening to the great music. So for me, it's just a collection of songs that I enjoy.

Honestly this might be one of my favorite PT album(I have weird tastes when it comes to PT, my favorite is probably Recordings and Signify lol) My favorite track has gotta be The Blind House, as I always love when Steven blends the hard and the soft so well in this track. Drawing the Line was my first exposure to this Album, and I gotta say, despite the chorus being a bit much, everything else is sooo good, especially the intro. Octane Twisted is my second fav because of it's usage of motif and the amazing intro. I feel like the concept here is executed rather well, as most incidents doesnt have a satisfying conclusion and life is just a sequence of incidences(or some proverb like that), so it captures that feeling perfectly.

I became a Porcupine Tree fan in 2008, so The Incident was the only new release I had to look forward to. While I agree that it wasn't the best note to end on (especially since it followed their best album), it did not disappoint, overall...and it still doesn't. Great album! 😊

I still believe there's one more album (and tour) in them. Apparently, it was a stressful time for some of the bandmembers while recording the album, especially according to Richard Barbieri. Revisiting the album recently, I think I can tell, and I don't think the album has aged all that will either. And it would be lovely if Steven could revisit I Drive the Hearse but apparently, while the rights to the album is still under Roadrunner (Warners), I think Wilson doesn't want to play any music from The Incident until it's back under his control.

Despite not really liking most Porcupine Tree albums (and not for a lack of trying), I really like the Incident. It's got a lot of that moody heavy prog stuff that Porcupine Tree but contrasts it with lots of the lusher, melodic stuff. It's an album I can put on whenever and really enjoy it.

This was the only time I bought a steven wilson deluxe edition box set: I was all excited and then promptly discovered I don't like Lasse Hoiles photography style and I don't like Hajo Mueller's art style. I haven't bought a box set since. I do really like the album though, I am glad the second disc isn't super long. It feels more like a bonus disc than a double album. Just a bonus disc with excellent tracks. I am with you on Drive the hearse: one of his best

It was my first Deluxe Set from him too. Still gutted I missed out on the Insurgentes set though. It must be selling for funny money on eBay right now! Though while the 2016 remaster was excellent, I 'was' hoping he would have released an Anniversary set as I wouldn't mind the bonus tracks being remastered as well.

yeah I completely love this album now, but i didn't really get it at the time when it was released and I sadly overlooked it. I was a teenager then, so following from FOABP & Deadwing this album took such a different turn from Fear of a Blank Planet. The Incident is such a mature record, and such a great way for steven wilson to go out with Porcupine Tree. It always seems to be my go-to Porcupine Tree record now. Going from Porcupine Tree's other records, most noteably Fear of a Blank Planet I always associate quite heavily with teenage angst as much as I love them & with The Incident it's completely separate from that and i'm really glad I didn't "get it" at the time. Because it was for me to discover years later and it's a really well made, mature record. He couldn't have ended things on a better note with Porcupine Tree.

I think the disconnect in the concept comes in that Steven actually said that it's more of a collection of "Incidents" than a whole story, that's why it feels narratively incomplete. But it's still a very diverse and complete album sonically I think ! I really enjoy Drawing the Line, the verses are really atmospheric and I agree - I Drive The Hearse is fantastic ! Have you heard the live version with extended outro from the live performance of the album ?

Not sure of the exact ranking but The Incident would be 7 or lower in my list of best PT albums. The albums is good but Wilson did not feel that inspired on this. The Incident and To the Bone feels similar in that way for me. Both are good but for me there are few of those high points that most other PT/SW albums have.

Probably going to end up listening to the album again today after watching this. I'd always felt I never understood the overall theme of the incident Opus itself or when I read up what it was supposed to be I looked at all the individual tracks that made it up and thought how do of these even fit into that

3:15 That I think is the actual, correct pronunciation of that term.. Every dictionary website (Oxford, Websters, Dictionary.com, google) has a feature where you can click a speaker icon to hear the pronunciation of the word... and every time it's the way you pronounced it at that 3:15 timestamp..

@garanceadrosehn96913 жыл бұрын
I agree that this was one of the weaker albums from Porcupine Tree. You may remember that when you did the video for "worst to best" from Porcupine Tree, I placed this album *MUCH* lower than you did in your list. And the problem with this album is that there *isn't* a good concept. It's the meta-idea of different "The Incident™"s for different people. The idea is that many people experience some Major Incident in their life which is a major turning point for their entire life. But it's not about any single incident, but a collection of unrelated incidents. Or at least that's what Steven said at the time.
@garanceadrosehn96913 жыл бұрын
You can mention a few specific song titles like "Time Flies" or "I'm Drawing the Line", and I can remember them and think "oh, I liked that song". But I didn't much like the album when it was released, and time has gone on I have no interest in replaying it. And I remember some friends of mine gushing over "Bonnie the Cat", but it never did anything for me. I still listen to practically everything from "Coma Divine" to "Fear of a Blank Planet".

I don’t mean to sound insensitive, someone explained in comments on another video that you have dyslexia, but the pronunciation of In Absentia isn’t really debatable. It’s an actual word used as a legal term in court cases. It has a defined pronunciation. Additionally, Steven Wilson has said it in interviews. You’re simply the only person that pronounces it In Absentina. I would just recommend you read titles and track names VERY CAREFULLY.
