@@ioakimantonis4687 that is exactly because of the structure of society especially in the west, where the people identifying out of their assigned gender, are still more at risk to bully, su1cides, social ostracisation, etc. because because we see this in research that approximately 1 to 2% of population on average identifies as non-binary. For example, in the culture of India, transgender community has been living with their own identity since centuries and hence they have the highest population of trans people, and by that extension LGBTQ community… in the whole world. now this does not mean that the LGBT folks are the happiest there or they don’t face discrimination in terms of laws and the non-LGBT people, THEY STILL DO.. it’s just that at least they have come terms to the fact that so and so phenomenon exists.

The synopsis of this would be ben arguing that he doesn't like trans and thinks talking about trans makes more kids trans (which it does) and neil is saying that it is a real thing that happens to people (which it is but rarely on it's own, it stems from societal issues and people not accepting that men/woman can be feminine/masculine and vice versa.) and that just because it's a negative thing, doesn't mean we should take freedoms away from people to stop said thing, because once your rights are taken away it's near impossible to get them back. Freedom and survival of the fittest is better than control and communism. Some people will have these mental issues and we just have to deal with them as society rather than try to do it politically.

Neil really got me thinking towards the end. He implies people have formed a mental connection between the discovery of an objective truth and a societal outcome based on that finding. I think that understanding that people think that way makes a lot of what's going on right now make a lot more sense. People have agendas and so they want to discover the objective truth they agree with so that their agendas can be pushed. Meanwhile, they want the opposite of their objective truth to never get discovered, so the enemies' agendas can't get pushed. I quite like Neil's solution of finding an objective truth and then not allowing that truth to oppress anyone. It reminds me of a Carl Jung quote I really like: "Where wisdom reigns, there is no conflict between thinking and feeling."

And one thing mentioned to me in either of the courses is that "if a child thinks that he's not being loved by his parents, irrespective of it being true or not, it's the child's reality". So similarly, if someone identifies oneself as a male or female gender it's their reality. Shoving the so-called truth down their throat won't help. However, since it's personal to a transgender person they shouldn't try shoving their truth down other people's throats too. The school's calendar shouldn't be changed based on what one's closet looks like. A man identifying as a woman shouldn't go to the women's washroom, because of someone rapes another women it's gonna bring shame to trans community only. Sports shouldn't have any influence coz a man identifying oneself as a woman still has more bone density and strength. Nothing true to be found. Truth is only as true as seeker's intention. I agree with both sides of the argument. The thing about freedom (particularly when it exists alongside equality) is a two-way street. If everyone is free to express themselves however they please, then you are free to go through life acting like a cliche example of the opposite sex if that’s what you choose, and simultaneously, other people are free to react to your choices however they choose. Freedom comes with a price: and that price is growing a thick skin and accepting other people’s criticism of the more obscure among your free life choices. Otherwise there is, by definition, at least some degree of oppression involved. How you choose to live your life is up to you. How other people respond to it, is not.

He has done it many time in other debates as well. He's very good. Neil is trying to get Ben to understand that beyond the science (genitalia aside, if you will) and other than in sports, it is a moot point that Ben is trying to make ... and tries several different 'examples' - not shifting points - to get Ben to understand. But Ben's thinking is rather rigid - or principled, as you suggest - so he has a difficult time accepting Neil's interpretation. In all fairness, he’s point was “why do you care so much” “what’s your goal in debating while they want their freedom to do what they want?” This goes out to show that there is no objective truth to lgbtq and Ben’s point is why not to objective truth. Because I won’t Stand for someone who identifies as something they are not or educate children these things. Yet, it’s getting to a point of getting finned or even prisoned for misgendering someone. @@baghead4548 when I saw Bill Nye get destroyed by Ken Ham in the Creation Debate, then Mr. Ham walked Bill through the museum to show and teach him about REAL science.... Well, I was done with Mr. Nye. When Tyson spouts the same exact tired, beat up arguments that dissemble the wisdom entailed in the message, that Bill Nye used... I realize that NYE and TYSON must have graduated from the same school of science... Wherever THAT may be. I really want to check these dudes credentials, now that I think about it. Lacking the ability to hold a decent, sense-filled conversation is a HUGE problem and I am surprised that Ben even let this guy on the stage. Honestly.

Ben needs to chill man. He’s going to look back on life and realize that he wasted so much of his brainpower on how different people see themselves, how that makes him uncomfortable and how he must rationalize that his discomfort is an undue affront on his sense of morality. Can’t imagine this dude genuinely happy.

The amount of copium in these comments is hilarious. What happened to facts dont care about your feelings? Does that all go out the window when, the facts point to something your political views dont align with

There's nothing factual NDT made. He tried to divert the issue by asking what's the purpose of determining if it's biological. Which is not the topic being asked.

Ah Ben Shapiro the harbinger of data and science meanwhile he wears a funny hat because he follows a religion with miracles that are literally scientifically unexplainable. Ben "Logicman" Shapiro.

Neil doesn’t belong in this discussion, as a science guy, he’s all of a sudden post modernist talking about this?

Why did Ben brought him in? He isn't a real scientist rather he is brownnoser for Dick Dawkins.

He's not a science guy, he's a science denier, the fact that there are scientists that support lgbt is pathetic and shows how anyone, no matter this intelligence, is worthless without common sense and a firm belief in science.

He barely escaped Me Too cancel culture several months ago after being accused of inappropriate conduct with female collegues. He is decidedly whip shy on this issue.

Ngl, I tried writing 20 different comments to this to try and not get myself cancelled due to daring to have my own opinion on the matter and its extremely hard. Kudos to Neil for taking this matter on.
