@@ioakimantonis4687 that is exactly because of the structure of society especially in the west, where the people identifying out of their assigned gender, are still more at risk to bully, su1cides, social ostracisation, etc. because because we see this in research that approximately 1 to 2% of population on average identifies as non-binary. For example, in the culture of India, transgender community has been living with their own identity since centuries and hence they have the highest population of trans people, and by that extension LGBTQ community… in the whole world. now this does not mean that the LGBT folks are the happiest there or they don’t face discrimination in terms of laws and the non-LGBT people, THEY STILL DO.. it’s just that at least they have come terms to the fact that so and so phenomenon exists.

The synopsis of this would be ben arguing that he doesn't like trans and thinks talking about trans makes more kids trans (which it does) and neil is saying that it is a real thing that happens to people (which it is but rarely on it's own, it stems from societal issues and people not accepting that men/woman can be feminine/masculine and vice versa.) and that just because it's a negative thing, doesn't mean we should take freedoms away from people to stop said thing, because once your rights are taken away it's near impossible to get them back. Freedom and survival of the fittest is better than control and communism. Some people will have these mental issues and we just have to deal with them as society rather than try to do it politically.

Neil really got me thinking towards the end. He implies people have formed a mental connection between the discovery of an objective truth and a societal outcome based on that finding. I think that understanding that people think that way makes a lot of what's going on right now make a lot more sense. People have agendas and so they want to discover the objective truth they agree with so that their agendas can be pushed. Meanwhile, they want the opposite of their objective truth to never get discovered, so the enemies' agendas can't get pushed. I quite like Neil's solution of finding an objective truth and then not allowing that truth to oppress anyone. It reminds me of a Carl Jung quote I really like: "Where wisdom reigns, there is no conflict between thinking and feeling."

If you are FUNDAMENTALLY OPPOSED to transgenderism. There is nothing for you in this debate. If you are someone WILLING TO LISTEN Neil makes very great points. Whether you use biological arguments or whatever, the FACT is that people in a free country are choosing to express themselves outside of a gender binary. This EXPRESSION is regardless of biology, or other such arguments. And again, if you are WILLFULLY REFUSING to listen to Neil, like you said "it isn't even a debate". But for those more open-minded, they might just receive a new perspective that they otherwise did not have. Why does Ben care so much what pronouns a person uses? Why does he care if someone who identifies as male wears a dress? The argument here is that, beyond his own prejudices about those things, he has no actual reason to care because those other people just want to exist. And one thing mentioned to me in either of the courses is that "if a child thinks that he's not being loved by his parents, irrespective of it being true or not, it's the child's reality". So similarly, if someone identifies oneself as a male or female gender it's their reality. Shoving the so-called truth down their throat won't help. However, since it's personal to a transgender person they shouldn't try shoving their truth down other people's throats too. The school's calendar shouldn't be changed based on what one's closet looks like. A man identifying as a woman shouldn't go to the women's washroom, because of someone rapes another women it's gonna bring shame to trans community only. Sports shouldn't have any influence coz a man identifying oneself as a woman still has more bone density and strength. Nothing true to be found. Truth is only as true as seeker's intention. Let whoever be whatever! Be kind, be polite, and most of all be accepting.

I agree with both sides of the argument. The thing about freedom (particularly when it exists alongside equality) is a two-way street. If everyone is free to express themselves however they please, then you are free to go through life acting like a cliche example of the opposite sex if that’s what you choose, and simultaneously, other people are free to react to your choices however they choose. Freedom comes with a price: and that price is growing a thick skin and accepting other people’s criticism of the more obscure among your free life choices. Otherwise there is, by definition, at least some degree of oppression involved. How you choose to live your life is up to you. How other people respond to it, is not.

I agree that trans people are humans and should enjoy basic rights just like the rest of us but absolutely nothing more. Essentially, his plan was to run through his regular talking points, but because deGrasse Tyson gave a nominal amount of pushback, these argument fell like a shitty house of cards (after all, Neil most likely isn't some sort of gender theorist or anything). Tarot is mainly used as a tool for prediction (as divination can basically just be a fancy word for prediction, which is what humans naturally do), if we're going to speak frankly without the spirituality behind it. It's less of trying to bring nonscientific stuff into reality and more trying to make sense of the world around us via a tool of picture cards. Even if it is just placebo, what's the harm in letting people have fun with things like that? Most people that use tarot or go into haunted buildings don't try and shove it down other people's throats (unless they're leftists). That’s cause Neil isn’t logical Ben asked him in scientific view is that real and all Neil could say is society blabbing nonsense Wait I don’t get Americans, ask yourself these questions logically and not with feelings or caring about people feelings what makes you think a man can suddenly become a woman ? Did you suddenly wake up a day and choose to be a woman ? What makes a woman a woman? Does putting on a wig and dressing as a woman makes someone a woman ? If archeologists dig up a transwoman grave would they meet a woman or a MANs bones there? Is being a woman just a costume for you? Does this mean that other countries who don’t know about this are uncivilized or barbarians If I cut off the balls of my dog does that make it a woman? Pls America you’ve done so many evil to this world Don’t ruin the world anymore than it already has been by you guys PLS People have other things to worry about and think about than what you are or identify as and no one outside the western world doesn’t care or even know about this mental illness going on in America

How I viewed Neil in this debate, was the one to throw the lgbtq under the bus. In all fairness, he’s point was “why do you care so much” “what’s your goal in debating while they want their freedom to do what they want?” This goes out to show that there is no objective truth to lgbtq and Ben’s point is why not to objective truth. Because I won’t Stand for someone who identifies as something they are not or educate children these things. Yet, it’s getting to a point of getting finned or even prisoned for misgendering someone. And yet transpeople or self identifying people are getting upset when being misgendered, even tho it’s agreed with Neil to let them be and let them live their lives how ever they want because it’s free to do so.

Tyson isn't fooled by Ben's pretense of caring about science -- or about truth. Notice how Ben neglects to mention that the "gender theorists" he references include biologists, psychologists, endocrinologists and other doctors who base their "theories" on data and clinical research. Watch how Ben claims that the "other" side is arguing that there are no differences between men and women. Seriously? NOBODY argues that. With Ben, it's one straw man after another. Tyson is too clever to take the bait. The phenomenon of "gender identity" exists and is demonstrable -- the role of science is to help us understand it and explain it. But Tyson is wise enought to understand that the controversy over this issue had nothing to do with science. It's about politics, culture and religion.
