Hey everyone, this video took a little longer than expected and I'm a little late to the controversy, but I still wanna share my thoughts. I'd appreciate if you would share this video and let my words be heard. I'll try and post more regularly, so look forward to more videos

Their statement about the Rival-Issue shows they are impressively fanbase-distant and even off-reality they are. Even some really nice, polite KZbinrs i know where like "WTF? This is nonsense. Literal nonsense." Their statement about Rivals alone shows how distant to the fanbase they are. They literally dont know what the product is they're selling.

They didn't include pokemon walking behind you in the main game because the wild area was barely playable as is due to frame drops. Same for the Gen 7 games, actually. Each DLC seems to be incrementally improving the optimization of the wild areas. Leaving Pokémon out of the main games has been coming for a long time. Between balancing and finding a way to put each Pokémon in the game, it was getting kind of ridiculous. And they aren't actually selling us the Pokedex back, either, as a number of Pokemon won't make the Crown Tundra cut, either. The biggest issue w/ Sword and Shield was the TERRIBLE story. It seems to me Game Freak suffers from being under the thumb of TCPI's multimedia schedule.

All this stuff was so frustrating I've moved on to other monster tamer games. I've been playing Nexomon it's less polished in soe ways, but far superior in other ways. There missing multiplayer for now, but it's a fun single player game for now. The animations are great, do a review brother love ur vids

Leon Raphael Neugebauer are you really saying that it’s unreasonable to ask for a better game when we have Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey to compare with what we got? It’s not unreasonable to ask GameFreak to do what they did before, but better and with more polish. Worst of all, they justified their most controversial decision with a lie. I won’t say the programmers are scum, but the company and its directors have been crushing the possibilities for what a Pokémon game can be for quite some time.

Jonathan Goodwin I disagree. Signal boosting the way in which a consumer lazily mistreats the customer by providing them a cut rate product is one of the only protections we have in video game consumerism - and in consumerism as a whole. Good on DistantKingdom for continuing to fight the good fight against GameFreak and their lazy excuses for a Pokémon game. The consumer deserves better, hopefully every video he makes teaches some more people that.

I've seen some people so ready to die on a hill for this apathetic developer that they genuinely try to pitch stretches like "of course the hobbyists can do a better job, they have all their free time to make changes; it's not a fair comparison" It baffles me that they think it's reasonable for the studio developing and selling the game to be significantly worse at their job than passionate, unpaid hobbyists. It doesn't suggest to them 'maybe GF shouldn't be making Pokémon anymore, they're clearly incompetent, at the very least.' It's weird to see people get stepped on constantly and still defend the company that is only seeking bottom dollar from them, and has little regard for quality control, or ANY consumer-friendly practices.

They should just let Genius Sonority have another crack at it...but then they'd probably be shown up spectacularly. For those who don't know, GS made the Pokémon Colosseum games on the GameCube back in the day and as far as Pokémon's first proper adventure outing in 3D goes, they're amazing, considering the Stadium games were little more than a minigame collection and a great battle sim.

GameFreak feels like an artist with three heads, all with different ideas, preferences and goals, all rushing to make tweaks and edits to the same painting before their deadline is up. That painting is just Gen 1, re-purposed and repackaged again and again over the years.

Agreed, 7 games and 7 years later and we've been able to catch all original 150 Pokemon within that time each time, with Mew being obtainable 4 times. XY was like 50% gen 1 and most of the megas being gen 1, they gave us a 2 year break with ORAS and they took a year off, but then we got Sun and Moon, Alolan forms fine, could've done more than just gen 1, but still neat, gen 1 rereleases alright sweet, gen 2 rereleases sweetness that's even cooler, but like XY 50% of the Pokemon are gen 1, Ultra games weren't terrible, ok at worst and best especially since no new Alolan forms... but then we got Let's Go PE, not to mention Pokemon Go which isn't a main series game but you can transfer from them to the main games... and now Sword and Shield, just like megas focusing on gen 1 with both the Galar forms and Giga Pokemon, where is the gen 2, 4, and 5 love, at this point people will start wanting to see more stuff done with gen 6 and 3 Pokemon again because it's been a while.

I wont defend gamefreak here because I clearly see the genuint flaws in the game, however both sides of the argument can be accused of being violent and mean spirited about the topic. I myself really enjoyed swsh and it brought me into pokemon, I can see that the games have flaws but I dont think it ruins them

@@Neevkl_7 if you don't own the DLC you need to rely on someone else you know having the DLC... or be a paying subscriber to pokemon home so you can connect it to pokemon bank or use the GTS. Or I guess be lucky with surprise trade or whatever. It's still not great either way. The DLCs and Home ideally should have some value from the new content they offer, not the stuff that was transparently cut out from the games to make an easy profit later.

At this rate, I prefer better that the Diamond and Pearl remakes get made by an actual competent company, because Game Freak cannot be trusted with the quality anymore; they just want money, no matter how bad or horrible the game they launch look, they know that it will be bought by costumers anyway. Digimon, being a spiritual competition to Pokémon, looks so much better than this mess of SwSh, and that means Game Freak is starting to decay rapidly to their demise. I hope that, at least, Pokémon gets bought completely by a competent company and taken away from the incompetent people of Game Freak.

Gamefreak has always been this way though, a lot of people don't seem to realize that. As far back as the very 1st game, they work with what they have, then the next games they up their quality significantly. Look at Crystal compared to Red and Blue, Emerald compared to Ruby and Sapphire with the Battle Frontier and cutscenes. compare Diamond and Pearl to Black/White 2, and XY to Ultra, especially XY to Ultra. XY they put little effort in, Sun and Moon they pushed the 3ds to its capability when making those games, but with Ultra SM, they pushed they 3ds beyond what anyone thought the 3ds was capable of, no one knew the 3ds had that amount of quality or power behind it, but gamefreak pushed those expectations. Not defending them, they have screwed up with Sword and Shield, it's just people are focusing too much on quality rather than the quantity, like the shitty story. Their writing for this game was the worst I've ever seen across any video game, no story was fine, thought that's what I was getting, then suddenly between this game's equivalent to the elite and the champion, right before your greatest challenge, the final battle of the game to prove you can beat the undefeated champion... then Rose happens. Ruins the immersion, makes you feel like you're cleaning up after a child's mess because he's such an incompetent dumbass of a villain. His arc would've worked better if a professor was the villain, would have been a twist like Giovanni being both the villain and the 8th gym leader, consumed with their desire for knowledge they accidentally release an evil upon the world that could destroy it, they aren't bad just doing bad things. Nope instead we got this chairman which hasn't been in the games prior making it obvious point number 1, the fact that the only special sprites go to you, your mom, your rival, the professor, gym leaders, elite 4, the champion, villain, or other like Scott from Emerald or Zinnia from ORAS. Rose was either an other or a villain, and with serious, boring, doesn't know fun secretary it was her or Rose and she was working for Rose. That is terrible writing and character development, when there is a lack of it and you put the climax in the last 3 minutes of the game, last 5 pages of a book, or the last 10 minutes of a movie YOU DO NOT DO THAT! The worst mistake any writer could make, and with no building on lore which is one of the selling points of Pokemon, they fucked up, probably because they focused on and were to concerned about competitive players, vs what Pokemon is actually about. Inspired by the creator collecting bugs, adventuring in his backyard, and Earthbound where it got the PRG elements, collecting these unique creatures using only your favorites to get to the top and prove your the best, that's what Pokemon is.

@@IgnatiusBlaze4 Did we play the same games? Ultra Sun and Ultra moon added almost nothing to the base game, it felt as barebones as Sun and Moon. The endgame is just like in ORAS pretty much non existent, while in D/P/Pl and HG/SS the endgame was pretty cool. (I don't remember the endgames of B/W so I can't say a lot about it.) What I'm meaning to say is since the jump from DS to 3DS the gameplay became shallow, I haven't played Sword and Shield, but from what I've read it seems like the same happened woth the jump from 3ds to Switch.

@@nemijs They added a lot, the surfing from island to island, an extra trial, new z moves, they changed some trials, new characters, the entire story was different 4 new ultra beasts, traveling through ultra space, post game you have catching previous legendaries, ultra beasts weren't shiny locked like in the 1st game, rainbow rocket, if you beat Gladion after the elite 4 a special cutscene will play between Mohn and Lusamine at Aether Paradise, you can get the totem Pokemon, different elite 4, and different champion battle (though Kukui's was better) and that's just surface level stuff. It was probably the surfing and ultra space travel that pushed it when they say they had to push the 3ds beyond what it was capable of. How can you say there was nothing after ORAS, the Delta Episode? Being able to battle and catch a mythical Pokemon traveling to space to do the battle, without an event necessary, I'd say since Red in original GSC that's the biggest post game any game has done, there were some smaller things to do like a side plot with Looker, there's an expanded story mixed into Pokemon contests making them more interesting unlike the original games, heck flying around on the Lati duo was a step up from XY. When I say they push the games further I'm talking about what they're capable. Back when messing with the 3ds for the 1st time with XY they probably wouldn't have been capable of doing what ORAS did with Latis or the ultra space travel, they were trying to figure out what they could do, which is why they lacked in post game stuff, the only things post game are getting Kanto legendaries and friend safari, but they kept adding and doing a lot more during game and post game with laters games, as the series progressed, and comparing ORAS to the originals they far exceed them in leaps and bounds, being able to fly on the Lati, creating your own gym in your secret bases, all the other stuff I mentioned, and then some, even making new characters and story around them like Zinnia. Oh you've heard right, Sword and Shield suck, partially because they do this every console gen like I said, Diamond and Pearl didn't push the ds, move onto Platinum adding slightly more, then HGSS adding even more, then transitioning to 3d slightly with Black and White, then adding even more to them with the sequels, the amount of post game in gen 5 is almost as much as gen 2, there's a whole 1/2 the region to explore, not as big as going back to another region, but it's the 1st time they've done this since the original gen 2 games, DP barely added anything post game, Platinum a little more with the battle frontier and slightly more story surrounding Heatran and Buck, rebattling gym leaders, otherwise not much. I don't disagree, overall gameplay is more shallow, more handholding and tutorials, their villains are becoming more generic, both Lusamine in Ultra games and Rose from SS are stupid boring villains that are being evil for the sake of good, while XY you had Hitler, gen 5 it's PETA, 4 it's a guy that want's to hit the reset button on the universe, their stories were more grand. Nor is it simple like team rocket in 1 and 2 where they're just there, where the game feels like you're choosing to combat them not being drug their against your will or fate of the world (makes you feel that way, yes obviously they're still scripted can't ignore them). SS is even worse, it's by far one of the worst stories I've ever seen in a video game, not just because he's a basic b**** villain, but for 2 other reasons. 1 He's so obviously the villain, the moment you turn the game on he's 1st one on screen, he's the chairman... sorry does he do chair things with the chair Pokemon? A new role in these games, has a special sprite that isn't you, your rival, gym leader, your mom, professor, or the champion, uh huh TOTALLY not the villain. 2 there are no indications he's the villain aside from you knowing he is, nothing, you don't know he's doing evil shit until after you beat this game's equivalent to the elite 4, you're facing the champion, ready to finish the game and stamp your mark claiming to be the strongest trainer in Galar... and he interrupts you with his plan, the very last possible second before you beat the game, you don't get to fight the champion instead you have to clean up his mess, like a chore, like he's a 5 year old that doesn't know better, no build up, no climax, it just happens and is over just as quick, that is the worst story writing I'VE EVER SEEN, NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT DAMN MIND DOES THAT! Then you all brush it off and do the champion battle and finish the game... oh and you catch this game's 3rd legendary during all that in a guarenteed 225 catch rate, so you can throw a pokeball or premier at it and it won't break out, but the box legendaries are in the crappy post game story. You get the 3rd legendary before you finish the game, and you don't get the main ones till after, heck we don't even know if Eternatus is the 3rd legendary because the DLC introduces another legendary that could be the 3rd IT WAS A S*** SHOW THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY WERE DOING, they were clearly favoring competitive players with this game, and even then they screwed that up, I'm not a competitive player and I could see all that.

Sadly, Sun and Moon made me feel super "eh..." And was looking forward to what SwSh would bring. When I finished the main plot I felt so empty and devoid of any emotional attachment to anything in this world that I think it has forever made me step away from the franchise... Tho Snap I will definitely play.

I agree that swsh are bad, but you're mistaken about that Chinese app. Those animations are all ripped from other games like Pokken. Never give those bootleg apps the benefit of the doubt. Pokken can have better animations because there are only a handful of characters that each have a handful of moves. Also, Pokemon Snap isn't open world, it's a rail shooter. All the events are scripted, unlike a battle. A better comparison is Battle Revolution. It came out in 2006 yet it has a few unique animations for all 493 pokemon. Even their idle animations are interesting.

Gamefreak dug themselves into a hole though. They made running animations for every Pokémon despite not being needed yet no unique battle animations

How weird that when a third party company is involved the quality of pokemon animations is increased. Honestly Nintendo in general has started to get more and more greedy with Super Mario 3D Allstars only beeing available for purchase until March 31st and the Mario 35 game only beeing PLAYABLE until March 31st. Also the interview for Origami King reveals some questionable stuff about " listening to fans " and avoiding making brand new unique characters. Gamefreak may have been a prelude to what is starting to happen with Nintendo and honestly that scares me. Oh well, I guess I'll just stay with the indies and Monster Hunter now. Gen 8 should of had connection with Gen 6 and Gen 5, better story with better lore and such as well as expand on things and such, the DLCs sorta solves that but does not add much except for a handful of new mons that are mythical or Legendary as well as one or two regional forms along with returning mons, at least gives us more of such that aren't Legendaries or Mythicals, also the DLCs are good but felt a bit disconnected to the main game, not add anything to such but as standalone content, but I hope if they do a third expansion I hope it connects to the main game because the main game had left things that need to be answered like the royal family, the mystery of such and so on, hope they get explained at some point tbh, also no Eevee Evolutions, I know people keep saying this but a Steel and Dragon type are suited for such and maybe Ghost for the expansions, but who knows tbh

I’ve never been disappointed with a Pokemon game’s soundtrack. Everything else about Sword/Shield... heck yeah... I tried playing the game with an open mind despite all of the animation controversies, but it still felt rushed and incomplete. I didn’t mind not having access to all of the Pokemon as starting in Gen VI, the games have been so boring to me that I just play through the main story with whatever’s in the regional dex (given that there isn’t much of a post-game). The dialogue didn’t make sense at times, the main plot and post game were boring and the Isle of Armor felt like something you should have been able to go and return to during the main game (hence why Kubfoo is only at lvl 15 and you need to get him to around lvl 70 and why some of the tasks you’re given are wicked boring). I just feel like needing to pay $95 for a complete experience ($60 = main game, $30 = DLC pack, $5 = Pokemon Home) and potentially another $20 if they release a third DLC isn’t worth it when the experience is so incomplete. I’m so disappointed with how far downhill the quality of these games has gone since the DS era. I hope that either Gen IX or Gen IV remakes steps up to the plate. Otherwise, I’m sticking to the side games (mainly Mystery Dungeon as that series tends to deliver in terms of a compelling plot, great animations, and just overall being worth what you pay for).

Hell yeah man. It's good to know that people that ended up buying these games are coming around. The Dex Cut was GF stepping over a line for me since I got this bad feeling that it would combine with a subscription storage service for some shady situation where our old pokemon would basically be held hostage out of the possibility of them getting deleted if we didn't pay the subscription and they weren't allowed into a modern game. It made me very very cautious about Sw/Sh and unfortunately all the bad stuff I was worried about ended up happening, an incomplete game with cut features being sold back to us. It sucked even more to try and get that point across to people I know because I don't want to kill people's hype (hell I hate when people try to do that to me) but as time went on it got more and more apparent how low effort these games were gonna be. GF has to step it up and either cut out these malicious business practices and put enough effort into these games to make me want to buy them again. Console RPGs had some pretty incredible releases between gen 7 and gen 8, and I'm not going to bother paying for essentially the same unsatisfying experience we've had for a while now when you have stuff like Persona, Dragon Quest, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, and a ton of other RPGs giving you extremely high quality, ambitious new ideas, or both.

Joseph Arellano Exactly. I wanted to have faith in GameFreak. I said that I’m not going to judge the games until I play them. And one of my favorite games from the franchise is Pokemon Conquest which only has like 200 Pokemon in it. So a smaller dex wasn’t a problem for me. But the more you play through the games and see the lack of content yet a much higher price point (including services like needing to pay for Pokemon Home and Nintendo WiFi which is just despicable in itself), it feels like they’re ripping us off. And idk how much of it is GameFreak, the Pokemon Co. or Nintendo. But they’ve gotta listen to their fans or they could easily see the success they’ve amassed crumble down in an instant. It just really sucks because Pokemon’s been my life and I want to continue to love the series. It’s just becoming harder and harder with every generation. I’m not even planning on buying Gen IX on launch date as I’ve done since Gen IV. I’m gonna wait a couple of weeks and see how content creators rate it (not those stupid, paid rating from IGN where they pretend that these games have any substance to them...)

That console pokemon game we all imagined when we were kids was finally going to be real. A gigantic world with exciting dynamic battles and a lot of fun local and online multiplayer features. Voice acting, music recorded by actual real instruments, the works! 2. Being on a console and not a handheld meant that my friends would actually own the system the games are on and it was going to be so awesome to finally get to share these games I love with more people. I know it's silly to hold it up to a standard of a childhood dream, but a game like that is well within the realm of possibility considering how far games have come and what developers are capable of now. It just sucked as time went on and the games just got further and further away from that ideal, and it feels awful thinking about what could have been.

I know this may never be read since this is late, but here's my take on the Pokemon series as a whole. In my personal opinion, Gens 1-5 had the best storylines, as it didn't really revolve around the players so much as the Pokemon themselves, getting fans to learn more about them through their lore and how important they play a role in the world. Take the Creation trio from Gen 4. They have incredible lore, such as the creation of time and space, to the world of antimatter and a mythical god who rules over them and created the entire world that is almost never seen due to its power, which connected the story as a whole. The characters are also well developed, as they have flaws and go from the rival we hate to the rival we like. The villains from Gens 1-5 also had significant themes that made them threatening. I think Ghetsis from Gen 5 is by far the best villain, as he is the first one to actually try killing the player using a legendary Pokemon. I also noticed that the villains would use the legendary Pokemon to fuel their desires, which gives the phrase "With great power comes great responsibility" to a whole new level. We see the impact of Gen 3 when either Archie or Maxie fail to realize just how powerful legendary Pokemon are, and how close to destroying the world they came. They also didn't make the player feel as if they constantly needed to have their hands held. What I mean by this is that Gens 1-5 had challenges that would force the player to overcome it by themselves instead of a helping hand. As you said, Gen 5 nailed it with a Challenge Mode for expert players, which is something that should have been implemented throughout future series. However, we don't see that. Gens 6-8 is somewhat lackluster in story mode, with Gen 8 failing to have what we could call "interesting dynamics". It seems that Sword and Shield don't delve into the natural lore of their legendary Pokemon. For example, Eternatus. There isn't much given except that it is a Pokemon that came from space and gives the power of gigantimaxing. Zacian and Zamazenta don't feel like they are important at all in the game, since they don't have an actual lore surrounding them. The characters feel like generic tryhards who think they have everything and don't need as much development. Hop seems like a shadow in his brother's footsteps, but "why" is the question. The game itself isn't challenging since it seems way too easy to win, and the final fight against Eternatus feels more like someone handed it down on a silver platter, forcing the player to catch it during story mode. The same can be said about the legendary dogs. My personal opinion is that ever since the switch to a 3-D model, they feel like they never had to work hard and only producing mediocre content. If anything, this taught me that Gamefreak is indeed lazy and refuses to acknowledge quality over quantity due to younger kids wanting the game because "it's Pokemon". No wonder it dropped in quality. And now they're basically stealing. As the saying goes, "Oh, how the mighty have fallen".

So I wonder if GF would fix the models for the Cyndaquil line, I mean there are separate models for some Pokemon that are separated between battle and the overworld plus there are literal dex entries stating how their fire is always on in battle (not the pathetic "bursts" the 3d models have), and while they're at it fix their hidden ability and move pool as well. Bias? Not really, their main ability is, of course, Blaze, which increases the power of fire type moves. Flash fire does exactly the same thing. They have the capability to change abilitys, they've done it to Gengar for instance (levitate to cursed body). So why not make it drought (probably not as Op compared to Adaptability, which it got in Renegade Platinum, a literal Rom hack with a whole slew of balance changes) it does the same thing as the other two with the added bonus of some move synergies and weaken water, and maybe even assist with the thing it is a failed clone of, speaking of which. Look up the base stats of Charizard and Typhlosion, they are exactly the same stat-for-stat. Then comes the movepool, or lack thereof. When the best possible moveset for a Typhlosion is Eruption, Flamethrower/Fire Blast, Focus Blast, and Hidden Power Grass (TWO fire type moves AND a move that has been removed from the game), something is definitely wrong. It has been almost seven years since X and Y and it is still the weakest fire starter.

Tbh I've wanted to like sword and shield this whole time. I just want a game that I can bring all my Pokémon to (all the IV bred and trained ones over generations)... But sword/shield still doesn't have all the pokemon. Rn it's 90$ for a still incomplete dex. I'm waiting to see how much they charge for a complete dex, if they ever make it. GameFreak has always been incompetent. They don't even understand how their game works. There are a million issues in these games that most gamers can immediately identify. Stall on Sableye for example. I could spend hours talking about the subject. The IV system is the worst of them all. There is absolutely no reason for having hidden stats that randomly give players unfair advantages or disadvantages. It's just begging the meta players to hack so they can play fairly.

As a PIMPNITE viewer, I strongly object to the second point. IVs are vitally necessary to running different sets on the same Pokémon. If they didn’t exist (and by extension natures and EVs, I suppose, since they sometimes boost the right stats and sometimes they don’t depending on what you got and they are also completely invisible to your opponent, so I guess that’s an „unfair advantage“ too) all Pokémon of one species would have exactly the same stats and every Pokémon would be a competitive one-trick pony with one set that’s objectively the best. No more physical, special or defensive sets, you know exactly what a Pokémon is going to be when it pops out with no surprise factor whatsoever. Doesn’t sound like a lot of fun to me on either side of the battlefield. Being able to fully customize your Pokémon in the video games is what sets them apart from the trading card game after all. Have you ever actually tried serious competitive play? Because it sounds like you just challenged people who do and are frustrated that they’re mopping the floor with you and you can’t figure out why. Been there, pal. But KZbinrs like Pimp really made me appreciate this side of Pokémon battles, even if it’s not really for me personally. Maybe you should check out some of his theme teams that use the same Pokémon multiple times. They’re usually called „Full Evolution Teams“. The Toxel one for example uses both Toxtricity forms. I think that there should probably be an option to select whether you want to battle online opponents who use competitive IV breeding or those who don’t. The playstyles are very different and if you‘re a casual player constantly ending up against opponents who take Pokémon battles way too seriously, you’re not gonna have a lot of fun. Some of the most fun battles I had as a noob were against other noobs. We all made „mistakes“ by competitive standards, but because we were all screwing up equally, the battles were intense again. But this is GameFreak we’re talking about, so nah.

If you get a bad mon, then you have only one choice: throw them out. You can breed for IVs using Ditto, but it takes hours to do, is cumbersome, and takes out the fun of the game. If we want to encourage fair competition, IVs need to be removed. We SHOULD NOT have to take hours of our time breeding dittos just so we can have a fair fight. Tell me what game pulls that crap besides gatcha games. Competitors just want to catch, train, and go. Young players don't even know they exist. There is no reason why they should be there.

In other words: it would be fair. "IVs are vitally necessary to running different sets on the same Pokémon." What you said here is not true. They don't work like EVs do. You don't make IV builds because each one can be potentially maxed. Unlike EV builds where you have to make a choice, IVs cant be changed once they are given. Variations on IVs range from all or nothing. Every competitor would choose all if given the chance, and they do, some times unfairly through hacks. Unless I'm missing something, what you said makes no sense. Unless you still care about Hidden Power, there is only one competitively viable IV build. NO EXCEPTIONS: max 31 in each stat.

I think they went with the worst of both worlds, they didn't give us a real open world experience (imagine how cool it would be to have a Breath of the Wild type world to explore with pokemon everywhere, like you're a real trainer), but they gave us hints to it with the wild area, which was lackluster, and they also didn't give us a good story, so we get neither the story nor the open world, on top of cutting out lots of pokemon, making one of the most annoying rivals of all time, and not even getting us better animations

When you add on the expansions and the ability to trade up your Pokémon from sun and moon with Pokémon home this game is over $120. And it still doesn’t have all the Pokémon in the game yet. And for some reason in rent the battles online you’re allowed to use a party of legendary Pokémon so they limited the roster from 900 Pokémon to 50 if you actually want to win. This generation was a waste of time. They took a bunch of moves off of my Pokémon from last GEN. So my Vaporeon can’t learn double team, my corsola can’t learn ingrain... Really? Double team is too powerful but you can bring a team of legendary Pokémon to online ranked bottles? This game is fucking bullshit

Yeah, I really don't like the fact that moves were removed. It made sense to get rid of the Z-Moves, since those were from Alola, but certain moves that meant a lot to people like Return???? I always taught Return to the Pokemon I knew could make the most use of it and became overjoyed in Gen 5 when TMs were reusable and taught it to many more team members. Even though Double Team is gone, Minimize is still in, and that doesn't seem fair to Pokemon who only had access to the former considering they only got +1 evasion when ridiculousness like Clefable spamming Minimize in a Max Raid completely ruins anyone's chances of winning against it (yes that happened to me last week and I'm still livid).

The funny thing is that in Dynamax battles...for Cinderace....when using Double Kick IT ACTUALLY KICKS!!! This is mainly because in dynamax battles the Pokémon battle animations are completely removed making only the Pokémon battle animations activate when an attack is used...which leads to an issue. The way Gamefreak does animation saves money...but it hurts the overall quality of Pokémon animations. Like if double kick used the Pokémon’s attack animation instead it would probably be liked more. Tbh I feel SwSh is overall an average game. I feel the game is an alright competitive Pokémon game, but isn’t a very enjoyable RPG. It feels like it’s lagging behind with how advance the genre has been as of late. I feel Pokemon is obviously going to make the next games alright (especially since looking back at the equally good competitive game and the EVEN MORE TERRIBLE RPG X and Y to see how it’ll probably improve next game) I feel the cycle of releasing games is starting to hit Gamefreak even harder then ever with higher expectations, and the Pokémon company seemingly not respecting these growing challenges and putting the same limiting deadline on the company. I hope the next games are alright , and hopefully we can see Pokémon get a resurgence

I will defend Hop with my life. He has an inferiority complex from constantly living in his brother's shadow, he's constantly humbled by you and Bede over his journey, and he's one of the few Rival characters in the franchise who shows notable growth throughout the series. Him finally having a competent team during the endgame, capturing a Legendary by merely talking to it, and finally deciding for himself that he'd rather help Pokémon as a Professor than fight them as a Trainer, tops off his journey in such a satisfying way. He is a very good boi and doesn't deserve the hate he gets.

He only decided to become a professor because he gave up. He got beaten by EVERYONE and then basically got handed the legendary because it makes sense for you and your rival to both have one. He didnt do anything notable throughout the story, and he is not a deep character by any means. He's extremely generic and quite utterly shit

Thanks for mentioning Distant Kingdom, he does a great hard job, nice to have other youtubers support him. I agree gen 5 games were the top. But for me, gen 3 games, on an old nintendo advance were the pokemon games i enjoyed the most. And after gen 5, gen 6 and 3D were the beginning of the fall. Game Freak is basically like VHS, they were the kings until DVD comes. I have deep affection for years of entertainment, and great memories with them, since gen 1 Red until gen 5. I also enjoyed gen 6, because they work a lot for the background, and that was since that moment they fucked all with their franchise. Gen 6 cruelly had a missing part, abandoned for different reasons, like time. Still waiting for the Z-version, complementary. (I loved all the remakes, but specially during gen 3 with fire red / leef green, because i bought collosseum, who included pokemon Box, and i still think this system was the best to connect different games. Even today, i think the system is on top, without bugs, with great possibilities. I was even capable to play my Nintendo Advance pokemon Game on my TV, and i enjoyed more that than the current Sword game on the TV, honestly.) But instead, they launched Sun & Moon way too soon, and after that, it becomes worse. it's the end, they lost their spirit, they continually give us unfinished content with multiples DLC who don't patch anything but add some more unfinished content, they screw us with cashgrab, and suck GO to add things for them inside the gen 8 (come on, look at all the things developped for GO users, on a main game, it's bullshit). And the anime, well, i loved gen 1-4, was shocked by gen 5, but still, liked the final part, even the fillers, and loved so much the gen 6. Gen 7 was a nightmare, and i don't considerate gen 8 as Pokemon. They screwed everything from my perspective, they have free access everywhere, they can go where they want to do what they want in no time (i mean, the travel to reach a town, with companions, camping, exploring, catching, that was Pokemon for me), they split the movies for shitty reboot, they use previous companions without any consideration, even if i like to see them, i don't think using them like that is a good thing... Well, Pokemon, anime or games, the soul, the spirit is dead, and i regret it. Still loving old games and watching previous sagas and movies, but you know, it's painfull so see what it became, after 20 years of supporting. Only my thoughts

To be honest, I kind of enjoyed Pokemon Shield, but even I completely agree that GF could've done better. It has been a long time since I played a pokémon game (pokémon sapphire) which is why I didn't have that much of a problem with the game, even with the cut corners (also I'm very easy to please). But I completely agree that GF has done it's long-time fans very dirty with the way they handled the production of the game. They took advantage of the fact that the fans will buy the game regardless, so they didn't bother putting in any extra effort. This game was clearly a cash grab and we all fell for it hook, line and sinker. But even then, I still hope that this is just a phase, and soon GF will come back and push pokémon into even greater heights because I don't want to give up on pokémon just yet. I know that it is better than this. P.S. I'm kind of mad that they left out the torchic line in the dex cut because I kind of wanted to play with Blaziken for nostalgia's sake. P.P.S. Also, the gym battle theme for SwSh is my favourite. Toby Fox did a great job with BT theme.

I feel like the format of having a new pokemon game every 2-ish years is giving GF a quantity over quality mindset. If you compare Pokémon to the other 2 of Nintendo’s main trio (Mario and Zelda) there’s a reason we only get a new mainline Mario or Zelda game every so often, and the modern switch era for those two are overall praised across the board.

Gigantimax is a cool idea... but why isn't it just a sort of extra evolution or form instead? Or better make it a giant form that some pokemon can evolve into when holding an item? Think magmortar or electrivire but the cool part is it's just a normal pokemon battle, just with a giant model which shows people this huge pokemon might have a lot of health. Some pokemon might already fall into this without evolution like say Wailord. I don't see why we need this new mechanic for what is essentially a boss battle mode. It's cool don't get me wrong, but wouldn't it be cooler to make normal battles more interesting? Not through new battle methods or such, but by making the pokemon themselves unique. Like say there's a new pokemon that, if it's in a double or triple battle, clones itself to fill those spaces or maybe when using surf you might encounter a pokemon so you fight as you surf along side it. "But some pokemon can't fight on water!" some of you cry. Easy fix, they don't. Example I throw an onyx to fight a tentacool, it sinks. But now it's "submerged", meaning it can still fight; at the bottom of the ocean, popping it's head out from time to time. But because it's "submerged" it's movement is halved since it can't swim well. Easy!

The geography of the Galar region was the biggest disappointment. It is so linear and none of the locations are interesting because they lack any depth. The route designs are awful with so few trainers. The towns feel so fake; you have literally just 2 or 3 buildings that are explorable in most towns and the illusion of a larger town in a background. One town was literally a straight line. This is my least favourite region and generation so far. It might get worse in gen 9......

You forgot to mention the biggest sin of this game, the lore of their gimmick of Dynamax is that it was Aliens... Megas were explained to be bond with your pokemon along with the energy of fallen pokemon. Z-Crystals and Z-moves were a regional tradition which made sense. But why was Dynamax explained away with Aliens?

I think the big problem is that this game is marketed to kids who have no money. As a kid I freaked out if I lost a quarter and would sniff sugar off a school lunch room table to get one. Now as a working adult, I spend $5 in a boba and don’t blink an eye and that is real theft. I blink an eye at that. Also on a separate note - yea you’re spending more money but the costs of making the newest gen of Pokémon is insanely larger than how it was each previous generation.
