@@ginochavez4009 i dunno but I hate my breeder, Jackson. I decided to breed rottweilers I was young and curious and wanted to get to the heart of the Doberman.I did this for about 12 years, loved every second of it. I do not handle the loss of what become my family members well. So long story I will make it short. I came across a new breed years later that took my breath away. I had one for 9.5 years and had none for 2 years. I was watching tv on a Sunday about year and a half ago. I saw these two sisters that breed pups it was on Animal Planet. I seen the passion they had for their dogs. I decided I was going to do my best to own one of these elite dogs. I bought two and had them flown in June 6 2018. I am still in shock at how smart these dogs are.

Take a look around your area for a good breeder. Go form a relationship to that person, get to know their dogs, go play with the pups when they have them. I did this, and have found a friend and breeder who is the person I go to when I'm ready. Look for someone who does all the blood testing, tracks the breeding, doesn't breed brother/sister, has experience and a good track record. And most importantly, doesn't overbreed. And they take back any pups for any reason at any point in that dog's life, they insist they are returned to them and not gifted or surrendered. This is the breeding you want. Breeding matters in Doberman behavior. And then, once you have the dog, be ready for spending solid time training that dog. It will get in the way of your social life and all kinds of things, but it's so worth it to have a well trained dog for the rest of its life. The well trained, chill Doberman who is so loving and so protective, well there's nothing else like it. But you have to already be willing and able to spend the quality time with this dog, because a Doberman that doesn't get enough time and attention becomes a problem, not a delight; they are a direct reflection of your invested time and effort. What you put in pays back double over time.

Yet alone protect your property if you are not home. I've put it all to the test and I've trained dogs. Most of the time they will make alot of noise and panic and sometimes it's enough to possibly scare someone away but most likely they will not protect you like a trained dog and that is a fact.

@stuarth4296
@stuarth4296 7 жыл бұрын
The tail is very course and hard and long (almost whip like). They knock stuff over constantly in the house with it due to their high energy. No real health issues, although I have seen a couple that had their tails get slammed in a door or caught in a fence and they bend up and do not straighten out very easily and it is painful for the dog. Herr Dobermann and Otto G., the two men who created and refined this breed, wanted very much for the tail to be docked off at the first digit. He wanted a protection dog, not a dog with a tail as a whip.

Whats wrong with it? Especially if you want a guard dog you want it to look scary. Not like a weird lab. They were meant for cropping since they were made. If you dont want a dog thats for guarding i dont see the point. Al dogs should be able to do what they were bred to do. America has changed this. Even though their dogs are beautiful there is no point for them. All the old personality traits are gone. If you want a family dog get a Maltese. Or a chihuahua. Dobermans are meant to guard and look scary and every one want them to be little puppy dogs. Its a disgrace.

This was an amazing video. The only thing that raised my eyebrow was when they stated that there is no difference in size and appearance between the American and European. European Dobermans are heavier, more muscular, slightly taller, thicker neck their muzzle is less pointed and more broad and their rust markings are often darker. Instead of the tan color they are a deep mahogany.

Love and miss my European Red Doberman. The Breed standards are VERY different in Europe and USA. In Germany around the cities of Wiesbaden and Wurzburg, I was told by Germans that the general view is that the American breeders have destroyed most of German breeds snd functionality. German Dobbie is muscular, heavy and generally certified in "Shuztland" games and programs. It's a remarkable looking dog no tail docking, or ear cropping (which is a crime in Germany), specifically designed to protect, guard and defend. American Dobbie is smaller, less sturdier, face and neck is weakly built. The German Dobbie is built to mouth and lock anything and the sturdy neck supports that powerful hang. Germans also train for temperament stability, they consider puppy milling to be a moral crime. They also rarely ever sell their puppies to an American. I know first hand.

A very informative video. As someone who has had a Doberman companion, I agree that they are a unique and wonderful breed. I am not a "one breed only" person and currently I have a magnificent Rhodesian Ridgeback who weighs in at 110 lbs as my constant companion, but Dobermans are definitely one of my favorite breeds. I've defended ear cropping for years on the grounds that it does have a benefit in reducing the incidence of ear infections (Most canine ear infections occur in floppy eared breeds.) But as the breeder here mentioned, the unnecessary neutering and spaying of dogs is far more invasive and has more dire consequences than ear cropping has ever had. In males especially, removal of the gonads often leads to endocrine imbalances and adrenal gland deficiencies eventually culminating in Cushing's disease, which can prove fatal to the dog. If neutering is not medically necessary it is best to avoid doing it.
@JustinAEgan
@JustinAEgan 6 жыл бұрын
+Jack Kangaroo ..."If neutering is not medically necessary it is best to avoid doing it". As a responsible dog owner, its your job to prevent unwanted dog pregnancy... as the owner of a Pure breed dog - its even more responsible to maintain the blood line. As you have mentioned, spay and neutering is much more serious, in its consquences than is revealed in all the cute ASPCA sponsored personal service ADs on TV and in magazines. Spay and neutering is abrogation of your responsibility to control your pets, keep them safe and maintain their well being... it has nothing to do with what is best for the dog. Just as a responsible parent...should - educate their offspring, prevent teen pregnancy... so should pet owners. That doesn't require you permanently alter them to make sure they do cause or get pregnant at an early age. there are many roads to prevention, which do not require a permenet solution ... to a temporary, but merely - potential - problem Many animals dogs, cats, horses bulls, cows - etc. Never show their true worth, until after reaching maturity. By neutering or spaying an animal - based, solely on appearances while they are puppies, cubs or colts - means that once they reach maturity and you find they have other qualities which you would like to see in the next generation... its too late. to me... the whole idea of - NO-Fault pet ownership is missing the point of having personal pet companions or working dogs who perform services for their handlers.

Here's the real deal "facts"... If you are even thinking about Cropping or Docking...; Do it when the dog is a pup. Once the dog reaches the youth stage, it can easily become a psychological issue, to perform surgery on dog. The whole point of having a Dobermann, is building a trusting, mutually satisfying relationship with your dog - introducing "Pain" into the mix ... can be traumatic to some dogs. A Dobermann will hold a grudge, they are more sensitive that you might think a dog usually is known to be. There seems to be a theme which many Dobermann owners will talk about, when it comes time to "Truth talk"... Dobermanns get under your skin, they become a part of you, your family - your life. Losing your Dobermann to old age, disease or mis-adventure... will affect you on personal level... I've grieved, for months or years everytime one of my Dobermanns has died or died due to preventable trauma. You will hardly ever see a Dobermann in a pound, rescue or roaming the street alone... someone wants that Dobermann and is looking for it. Even people who are afraid of Dobermanns... are attracted to them for their beauty. A Dobermann, in a kennel, boarding situation or separated from its "owner" / companion ... for an extended period... can become unstable.

cristianoo27 I don't know where you live in Germany that there are a lot of Human aggressive Dobermanns. I live my home life in Germany and know nearly all DV groups and there was only one Dobermann who was Human aggressive and that's just a few month bevor the training start...

Exactly. Allot of people miss out by sticking to just ONE breed.. I always loved pitbulls myself & said they'd be the "only dog" I'd own lol. Then I got into hunting dogs, got into livestock & got livestock dogs and then was introduced to and fell in love with the protection type breeds. One of my favorite dogs now is my young Rotti/Mal mix. When you actually have dogs for a real PURPOSE instead of just a house pet, it changes how you think about them.

I love that fact that you brought up the topic of cropping and docking vs. spay and neutering... Excellent bullet points on the evasiveness and necessity (or lack of it) of breaching a dog's abdominal cavity...when all that is needed is responsible ownership.
@quynncollins9298
@quynncollins9298 5 жыл бұрын
Jerry Piaskowski spay and neutering I believe may not be a necessary, but it is very important due to the overpopulation of dogs and cats.

How does hurting a dog for the vanity of the owner even remotely compare to controlling the (potentially unwanted) dog population?
@Ashley-nope
@Ashley-nope 5 жыл бұрын
David Foster I mean being so irresponsible that you can’t properly track and contain a bitch in heat seems pretty selfish to me.... especially when it involves dogs like the Rottweiler who actually live longer when left intact....
@leridom
@leridom 4 жыл бұрын
@@davidfoster7374 My dog has never been out of my control. There's no way my Doberman will ever breed without my knowing it. Dogs who are not altered tend to live healthier, longer lives. I will never spay/neuter again. This is not about vanity, it's a fact my dog isn't going to breed. I am not a breeder, I don't want all that responsibility, my dog doesn't get away from me or free of the yard. I make sure of that and am very careful about what I do. The unwanted dog population happens because people don't take their responsibilities seriously, like I do. I'm not going to alter my dog because other people can't figure it out. Unaltered dogs are healthier, that's the dirty secret on one is talking about. A sure fire way to have a Doberman bitch who can't control her bladder is to spay her, anyone who knows this breed knows this. Altered Dobies never reach full mental maturity. None of this is vanity, these are Doberman facts. As for docking/cropping, I don't think it matters as long as the dog has been properly done in a vet's office and not in some garage or basement. The dog is fundamentally the same in temperament and is still an amazing companion and life partner.

Been around American Dobes since 1971 and owned them since 1984. Our son owns 2, including a 4 yr old Eastern European Male that literally comes from a family of war dogs. All of ours animals have been purchased over the decades from top US Breeders focused on the confirmation ring. We have AKC champions in our past and our newest male was sired by the current #3 Dobe Grand Champin. The info in this video is very accurate. The point at 15 minutes about socialization cannot be emphasized enough, you must do it and do it while they're young! I do think the O'Conners are incorrect on one small point, that is - the size of the European Dobe. My experience is they are heavier, thicker, more muscled and taller typically than US counterparts. Couldn't agree more with everything else pointed out in the video and happy to stumble onto it and enjoy the content. At 15 minutes

Many, many thanks to you folks for such a complete documentary on this fabulous breed! I have had the immense privilege of owning and loving 3 of them ♥ I appreciated SO very much the fact that your policy regarding disposal or rehoming one of your dogs for any reason is forbidden in the contract. Returning one of your Dobermans to you is crucial~! Outstanding. KUDOS!

Dobies are great. I got one soon as I turned 18 and got my own place. Man did he wreck it lol. Wasn't his fault, I worked a lot when he was young and he was lonely. He had a great life and took a piece of my heart with him when he died.

I disagree. If I buy something from you, even a dog. It’s mine, not yours. It’s called commerce. Upon accepting payment you’ve relinquished ownership. This isn’t a rental service.
