Always a sad ending but this one in particular was very well acted.
Even the end Universal logo was kept silent as a kind of respect for this touching finale.

"PEOPLE NEVER DIE AS LONG AS SOMEONE ALWAYS REMEMBERS THEM." The child's delivery of the line felt very real, then the Lonely Man kicked in with Bill's incredible acting always hits me very deep. This is such a beautiful ending to a great episode. I'll never forget it for as long as I live.

David Bruce Banner(changed from Robert Bruce Banner in the comics) was studying the effects of Gamma radiation on human strength after a tragic automobile accident resulted in the death of his wife, and Banner was unable to lift the car in order to save her life. The event haunted him for years afterwards, especially after hearing reports of ordinary citizens exhibiting extraordinary feats of strength in order to save innocent lives and loved ones. Banner's inability to understand why so many other people were able to tap into this hidden strength that he was not able to tap into led to him exposing himself to high levels of Gamma radiation, believing that high Gamma levels in the atmosphere was the reason for this hidden strength. David ended up cursing himself with the Hulk alter ego because he failed to realize that it wasn't the Gamma radiation or lack thereof that prevented him from saving his wife, it was his own underlying insecurities and self-esteem issues stemming from his own physical limitations, in spite of his considerable scientific genius. These psychological issues made him feel weak and inadequate, which resulted in him being unable to lift the car and save his wife - because he simply failed to believe that he could do it. The Gamma radiation enhanced and magnified his own anger and frustration at his physical limitations and resulted in creating the Hulk persona, which was not a separate identity at all, as Banner believed, but merely an extension of his own rage and damaged psyche. 'The Lonely Man' music perfectly captured this theme of Banner constantly searching for an answer he would never find, because there is no cure for oneself. No matter where you go, there you are.

This particular scene shows how someone at a very short age can show alot of humanity and caring for those loners that go from here to there in this tough world!!!, listen to the music and Bill's eyes playing the character of David Banner, always was and always will be my idol. Even though now I'm a 38 year old man back in 1984 at the age of 7 I saw it fot the first time and I cried, and I can still cry every time I see it over and over. Thank you Mr. Bill Bixby for showing compassion and the willingness to help other people in all the characters you played on every single show that you acted as a role model and a pioneer on TV... Wonderful and sad music at the end!

Words mean nothing to good acting. He just sits there, a long tear, a single shot and the ending theme. I watched this when it came out on TV originally and as I get older, it means more and more and I find myself getting more and more emotional. This simple scene reminds me of the Mother Simpson episode when Home just sat on his car looking at the stars as the one person he wanted in his life more than anything walked out of it again. A still frame, a shooting star, and the perfect music. Dialogue is not needed in scenes like this.

If only the current movies were this touching and heartfelt of what Mr.Bixby brought to the character. I always saw this as a child and recognized years later, the tragedy that was trying to be conveyed: a man who could never find peace and rest. A man always on the run without a home. A man, broken and yet, redeemed in a way. Godspeed, Mr. Bixby.

As much as the "Sad Walking Away Music" as it is oft referred to is parodied or used humorously, it was always a solemn and sad theme, especially when used for its intended purpose as the soundtrack for the end of each episode of this series. That said...I don't remember this episode because I haven't watched the Hulk in many years. But this ending alone brought legit tears to the eyes. I don't know the context in which the episode ended, but the little boy's words were impactful, and as always, Bill's acting amazing. This was the most effective and heartbreaking "sad walking away" ending for the show that I've seen.

Yes very sad always makes me cry. It's what the boy says PEOPLE NEVER DIE AS LONG AS SOMEONE ALWAYS REMEMBERS THEM then the music cuts in perfect timing. It can make us think of loved ones we have lost. In all honesty all thoe lou ferrigno did an excellent job i think bixby was the star of the show, because of scenes like this. Also in real life bixby suffered a lot of pain, his 8 year old son christopher died during filming of season 3 and later his wife brenda bennit commited suicide

Gary Glindon Yes indeed. Then he discovered that he had cancer, and the woman he was with at the time left him. Thankfully, though, he found someone who stayed with him to the end. Bill Bixby deserved an Emmy award. As you mentioned though, Lou Ferrigno also did an excellent job. The previous scene, in which the Hulk was embracing Mariette Hartley's character as she died, was very touching.

MerlinsDragon1970 This series had some great moments. I liked the fact that they kept it as down to earth as possible, instead of having him fight some super-powered opponent every week. Episodes like this one really made the series shine. I also get a lump in my throat whenever I watch the pilot, especially at the end when Banner was at the gravesite of Elaina Marks and said, "I love you, Elaina. I think you loved me too, although, you never said it (and we all heard her say it previously to the Hulk). I'm very sorry about your parents. Losing both of them so quickly is rough. My condolences.

I still tear up every time I hear this melancholy piece....especially since Bill Bixby's gone. :( Except, of course, when Stewie did it!

David Banner was lucky that Jack McGee wasn't at the beach to see the damage caused by a hurricane while he was there looking for The Hulk. If McGee found Banner there while he was grieving for the loss of his 2nd wife Carolyn,who died from an advanced form of Lou Gehrig's disease before he could get her to the hospital with the cure he had,which was some Gamma Tissue from him as The Hulk,he would've had to explain why he let the world believe The Hulk killed him in a lab fire,which he didn't do.

@bjroberts65 that's because it's Meeno Peluce, her real-life brother.
