I come from the original set of urban explorers. I am 57 and when I was 14 I began exploring abandoned homes. That was before cell phones, computers, and any kind of camera that took more than one picture at a time. The cops were always looking to catch people and trespassing would be the charge. I love the way you see the special parts of the house as I always did. I'm happy to see young new explorers bringing what I used to do to a screen.

It is kinda sad that so many vintage and antique items are deteriorating and soon will be lost. I know that ethical exploters don't like to take anything, but sometimes I wish you guys would find out if you can "rescue" things. There this guy from Australia that when he comes upon things like what you found in this house, he tries to find the owner, or sometimes explores the abandoned place with the OK of the owner. When he sees certain items that are vintage or antique he let's them know and ask them if he can contact a historical society to pick the items up. Most than usual the items are rescued.
@buckeyedav12 жыл бұрын
I agree it's a shame they can't be rescued. I had that crib when I was young and bought it used back then always a regret that I lost it in moving. And that kitchen cabinet on the upper floors with the glass windows I have that now it belonged to my mother in law I'm guessing 1950's I love it so much sadly the bottom of it is too rusted to use in my house but I have it in my shed with extra dishes and canning jars in it I wish I were talented enough to figure out how to put metal sheeting on the bottom and repaint it to have in my house. You absolutely do not see those in the thrift stores antique stores today. I love the sliding glass doors on mine. Anna In Ohio

Hi, Kappy, I'm still waiting for a surgery date, but everything is ready to go except the surgeon. I'm just about going bonkers, waiting for their office to call, so I figured I'd say hello to you and let your explorations soothe my frazzled nerves! This is certainly an interesting house, with so many wonderful architectural touches visible on the exterior! It's an odd combination of 18th century farmhouse, antebellum plantation house and Queen Anne mansion. Hey, Ruby girl! Glad you're there to watch over Kappy! I worry about him sometimes. We all do! There's lots of water damage in this house! The roof wasn't adequate, sadly enough, to last through the years. I thought about your videos, Kappy, when choosing new roofing for our house. Based on seeing how many roofs survive and various comments I read, I made sure to choose a metal roofing system with fiberglass cladding. It has a warranty good for the lifetime of the house! Maybe your grandson will film this house one day! Well, it seems that there was a gardener in the house, as the green tool that looks like a cup with a handle is actually used for planting flowering bulbs like tulips and daffodils. Now how did all that soil find its way inside the house? I wonder if there was a flood at some point. That could account for some of the water damage to the floors and the black mold in the kitchen. Perhaps there's a creek close by and that's what occurred. Oh, Kappy! I love your saying "underwhelming!" about the servant's staircase. You made me laugh, you funny man! I needed to laugh! Interestingly, the ceilings in this room are solid and show no sign of collapse. That could indicate either that the rooms above are a total wreck or that the kitchen was simply a poorly roofed addition. Hope it's not both! Someone clearly planned to do some serious renovation on this house, judging by all the buckets of paint and/or sheetrock mud in this room. That little child's rocker seems sort of sad, sitting there all alone. That configuring of a big, empty box is done to make an enclosed litter box for a kitty. I think I caught a glimpse of a litter pan inside it. Ooh, that East Lake trim over the pocket door opening is so lovely! It is more than likely of wooden construction because metal would have been too heavy. This system would have allowed air to circulate through the house even when the doors were closed. Boy, are those pocket doors squeaky! I like the cut glass door knobs on them, though you didn't comment on them. Oh, there's a child's mud boot on the floor beside an adult's duck boot. There WAS a child living here! The entry way is so pretty, with the stained glass window, a very popular Victorian touch. Oh, what a beautiful curio cabinet! I'll bet Ruby likes it as much as I do! It's so very lovely with all that carving! I'd like to own something like that! Oh, that stained glass window is much larger than I thought! The light it brings pouring onto the stairs is just beautiful! She was a seamstress, too, this long-gone gardening mother! How wonderful! This sewing machine is a more professional model, capable of handling heavier fabrics and, from the cones of thread with which it is threaded, the user does a lot of work! Oh, that little room is not a kitchen at all, Kappy! There are no water pipes coming into it! It's a sewing room! The top of the lower cabinet is cut out so that she can sit and sew more easily. The upper cabinets with doors are for storing fabric and notions. I recognize this room because I have a similar craft room in my home. How terrible! This beautiful old house is quickly dying because its roof is failing! What a disaster! Finally, there's a nice little fireplace! It's odd that there's only one in the whole house. Well, that's not the only oddity. The occupants certainly left an odd assortment of antiques and modern furnishings, but they cleared out the house pretty thoroughly. That moss/algae on the floor is an indicator of just how much rainwater is pouring through the broken roof! You're absolutely right, Kappy, this house is doomed! That is certainly a weird chimney in the attic! I can't think why it would have been done, except for the presence of the lone fireplace. This part of the third floor appears to be part work space, part child's playroom. The sewing machine makes me believe that our lady may have been a quilter or a seamstress, needing large areas of floor space to lay out patterns or set up quilt frames, while her little boy played nearby on his train table in the separate play room. This was such a happy house! It's heart-breaking to see the house simply falling apart! Perhaps the electricity was left active by the production company which used the house for filming. You did well to turn it off, Kappy. Perhaps someone will venture into the basement to turn off the breakers. What an incredible explore, Kappy! I can't think of one that's intrigued me as much. There's so much joy and regret all mixed up in this slowly falling down house! There's nothing spooky here at all! Whoever had the misguided notion to make this house into the set of a horror movie should think better next time. I can't imagine any vestige of anything horrible attaching itself to this beautiful house. The only awful thing about this house is that leaky roof! While there's no saving it, Kappy, you have kept this magnificent old house alive for all time, my friend, and I'm grateful to you, again. Love to both of you, Becca

As a kid I was exploring an old house with my brother and we found a cardboard box full of kittens. Someone just put them there with no momma cat or anything, having to know they’d eventually die. And they would’ve if we hadn’t have come along and found them. Took the hole box home and hand raised them, my mom wasn’t to happy about that, lol. Unfortunately I think they had been there a while and a couple of the kitties died the next day, one of which was my favorite that I already named. But the rest we found good homes for.

One of the things I so enjoy is seeing the layers of time in these old houses. The green toilet from the 50s-60s.. to the barrel chair from the 70s. The teal paint is clearly 80s. Interesting time-capsule! I find the house with the bay window incredibly stylish. The closet in the hallway is beautiful. A unique piece that actually needs to be restored and sold as an antique. You won't find something like that anymore with this elaborate carvings.

Really unique house, would have loved to see it before any changes were made. On the top floor/ part attic, it looked like several fireplaces mantles were stored there. I would guess the fireplaces were covered up when the baseboard heat was added. I would love to have some of the gingerbread from this house before it falls into total ruin.

I love the antiques and the turret. When you first started there were these cool wheel looking brackets used to hold a counter. Such a cool house.

Love watching it brings back such good memories. When I was in my twenties my best friend and I would ride the back roads and explore old houses just like these. We found a lot of great things and made great memories!!!

House seen in the 1970's film "Lets Scare Jessica to Death". The maze upstairs is what makes the house so cool. It is very likely the result of the addition to the house. At some point 1 bedroom was made into a bath and kitchen.

There were some gorgeous pieces of furniture in that building. I am shocked that no one has attempted to salvage some of that stuff.

Hi Kappy and Ruby. What a great house. The tower room was definitely worth it. And the wonderful stained glass. And so much beautiful furniture. I'd buy it and fix it if I had the money. Turn it into an Airbnb. Absolutely wonderful.

Absolutely enjoyed this video! It was so cool to find out the electricity is still turned on. Such a beautiful old house. What a shame it has gone into such disrepair.

It breaks my heart that all that antique furniture is going down with the house when it all caves in. Especially that Victorian hutch thing

What a grand old lady. Oh the stories she could tell of years gone by. Sad that her days are number before she is gone. Love this and thank you for finding her before she is completely gone.
