“Casa Comercial” is the real name that was attributed to this exceptional place. This mansion was once the home of a loving Portuguese family.
One of the most incredible parts to discover in this mansion was the secret underground grocery store. The store was in operation during the 60s and after the mansion got abandoned in 1978 it had been frozen in time ever since.
The man was a Portuguese colonel in the military. The women worked behind the counter in the store, selling products to the local villagers.
When the owners of the house started to grow older, they continued to live in the house, but they closed the doors of the store eternally. There were thousands of letters in the house, with very different dates, and it was quite difficult to understand the story on the surface. According to letters and the big amount of bedrooms in the mansion, the family was quite large. The original owners died a long time ago and one of their daughters, Maria Antónia, lived in the house, whose first name was the same as her mothers. The other family members emigrated to Brazil, and Maria Antónia lost contact with her siblings.
Now, 90 years later, all siblings have deceased. Inevitably, there is no generation to take over this beautiful building. As a consequence, the home is disconsolately left deserted.

I've always loved going through old abandoned houses. Since I was just a kid. No mansions, but just the feelings of history when you go through an old home. I always imagined living their, which room would have been mine, the families who built the home, etc. Also always loved the way there were lilacs, and grapevines and other plants they would have cherished and probably even planted themselves. Thanks for opening my mind and showing me things of such interest to an old soul like me.

Never ceases to amaze me in other countries things are just respected, in America everything would have been stolen, even the copper plumbing and electrical wiring from the walls, everything would have been broken, smashed, spray painted and ruined by humans, not the elements. Keep up the good work, I love your video's. takes me forever to watch one, I keep stopping it to scan every inch of trinkets, shelves and cupboards..lol

Doesn't it make you wonder what has happened to our moral compass during the past 20-30 years? Of course, I go further back when life was simple. My family didn't know we were poor! We always had food on the table, fresh vegetables, eggs. an outhouse, and no bathroom inside. We all had to bathe in an old laundry tub....Lord have mercy if you were the last child! Ok, I was the last child, but I whined until my older siblings would fill half and dump half. It was a way of life then. Then we moved....to a house with a bathroom!!! Running water in 1957! Alot of wonderful things I see in your videos have resided in somebody elses house somehere in another time and place. I love your videos and the respect given to the deceased or missing family members. Keep up the awesome work!

I always thought you two guys would be really great on a TV show. You are branching out into other areas besides just looking at abandoned houses, which I love. I saw you recently in the Arctic! Wherever you go we will support you two and live through your eyes. I remember seeing ampules like you saw here in my grandfather's house. They were morphine from a very long time ago.

I always love how much history you young men do on the owners and their propyerty. The woman of this postal property was so beautiful. It’s so sad that there no living relatives. This brings me to tears because I just don’t understand these situations. I have no words why their government doesn’t do anything about these properties.😢

This house is very interesting because of the amount of rooms and furniture it seems that it was inhabited by more than one family. Another interesting thing is the existence of a store on the ground floor, very common in old houses. Here in Brazil, these stores that sold everything that people needed to buy for their homes were called "dry and wet stores". It is an expression that I do not know if in Portugal it was also used. Ask your friend Dani. I'm very happy to see that you and Dani have become great friends. When I can visit the region of Trás-os-Montes, northeast of Portugal, I will be happy to visit my grandfather's land, where he was born and lived before moving to Brazil. Big hug friend!

It's truly sad that there are no descendants left to take over the property. I'd give my eye-teeth for some of the beautiful antiques left behind. Holy Doodle, I can't believe the property has been abandoned since I was 18 years old! It's truly a sad story because the property is spectacular. Of course the vandalism angered me, but thankfully not all rooms were ruined by hoodlums. I noticed the piano appeared to be relatively dust free, which is odd. It's in complete contrast to some of the rooms where furnishings were in bad shape due to decay. And those cobwebs! They give me the shivers! The store was such a surprise to see; it was totally unexpected. I loved everything about this explore! The top floor was beautifully furnished. Maureno, I do believe the machine you were referring to as a sewing machine was a knitting machine. A long ago friend had one which she used all the time. I had a go at making a scarf, but it was disastrous 😅 Brilliant find, amazing explore as always. Thank you for taking us along on your journey, documenting abandoned buildings. I can't wait for the next one! All the best from 🇨🇦

Thank you so very much Hollis! It is always very beautiful to see how religious many Portuguese people (mostly in the smaller and more rural towns) still are, in contrast with many other European countries. Hi Maureno, such a fantastic find and still after all that time so much is untouched or broken, amazing. With the word vegetation you say it jeh as in "Ve jeh tation". Obviously some rooms like the kitchen have been vandalised but then you see other rooms that are still pristine. The "Secretary desk" is called a writing bureau, my Grandfather had one. The item at 47:54 is a knitting machine for wool to make woollen jumpers etc. That store really was a fantastic find, very unique to see a store left that long abandoned that still had so many products left on the shelves. What a great explore, that has to be your best find so far, thank you for showing us. Stay safe and take care, much love. xx💖

So at 44:15 the reason for the bed with curtains is because a whole family slept in that room. Mom and dad needed their privacy (hence the curtains) and baby or young child slept on the cot. That's how they often did it with multiple families living in the same house.

Hi Maureno, Once more I can only at first say WOW! - What an incredible tour, where you were guiding us and showing so interesting and breathtaking items. - i loved already your introduction together with the beautiful background music. - It was heartwarming to see, how well you got along with Danny, and I think, that he is also an excellent tour guide for you. - What makes at the moment your videos additionally so lovely and very special are these wonderful personal touches at the beginning and at the end of your actual explore, where you are showing the hotel and the breakfast and the car ride together with Danny. - I love that very much, because it gives me a unique feeling of your wonderful Portugal trip more in detail. - The rooms in the colonels house were magnificient to see, especially the ones, that weren't trashed. - It was like looking into a legit time capsule, where somehow the time stood still. - Lovely neo-baroque furniture, beautiful ornate ceilings, very decorative lamps and chandeliers and such a lot of interesting and original items from the past were visible. That made me nearly speechless, and i can only thank you a lot for documenting that location and at least preserving the memory of a once unique historically significant building! - The little shop was absolutely awesome, because it looked so incredibly original, like right out of the prewar period. - i could hardly believe my eyes! - An absolutely wonderful and breathtaking explore!!!! - Thank you again for sharing this incredible adventure with us viewers. - Wishing you all the best. - God bless you, peace and kindest regards!

These buds are doing a commendable job! The visual impact has induced nostalgia, and for me life during that era would have been worth living, because now I am living an inhumane life.

You have a nice videos all time. You like to travel in Portugal. My ancestors from Portugal/ Portuguese descendants. Some design of the furnitures we still made those in Philippines. I like antiques stuff especially chandeliers. Antiques is very valuable. That house is very beautiful back then. I don't know why people vandalized the house, they have no respect even though its abandon. Keep doing your adventures, Explomo and the team.

"Chà preto" remainds me of Brazil. We were there there before the quarantine started. There was a little girl at breakfast saying"bom dia"once and over to us, because she found our accent weird, She was so sweet. Amazing video. Loved the storie , all that beautiful furniture and frames. Soo beautiful! Excellent video guys!! Great job!! Cant wait to see the pics on fb. Stay safe!greetings from 🇦🇷🇦🇷😘😘😘

I liked the Religious artifact because it looked like quality unlike the cheap plaster you see today. I had a Portuguese friend in the 6th grade he could barely speak English. The people who lived in the house moved to Brazil it's sad to think Brazil digging mass Graves that the rest of the family could be dead from the virus. The lamp you thought was a oil lamp could have been at one time because here in America it's very popular converting old lamps into electric lamps. I have to say this but a curtain right above you're stove is a recipe for a fire lol Thank you for the video it's a really Beautiful place.
