The iconic "Indian Pacific" , usually travels through western New South Wales to Adelaide, but due to major flooding , it has been diverted through Victoria. For the last few months, this famous train has been travelling through the Adelaide Hills, and I was lucky enough to catch iy on my recent visit.
Heavy rain in Australia's East since July 2022 , has seen major flooding through NSW and Vic. The rail line between Parkes and Broken Hill , was cut in late October 22, and has only just been opened in late January 2023.

G'Day Gregg. My Great Aunt when she was alive would always take her holidays to Sydney via the Indian Pacific as she loathed flying. I remember going to the station at Perth way before they built that great monstrosity that houses PTA and now services the Indian Pacific at East Perth. This was a real Show stopper as it could only leave late at night because the local trains couldn't use the Perth Station at the same time. Later we saw her leave from the East Perth Station and even there it was so long it took up all the station platform and well past it (not these days sadly). So in memory of those days I have the Mk III version since that's the Livery I like the most as one of my "Interstate Rakes"that goes off scene to places else where. Just don't have all the coaches yet as they are so expensive to do the full train. As always, outstanding and Thanks for the Memory's. :) Take Care Matey.

Hi Lloyd, Thanks for watching the channel! That was neat that you went by my (s00n to be) new home, and you were lucky to go on this rare route for the IP ! . What a beautiful train! Funny though, seeing those old fashioned passenger cars, I almost imagined seeing old fashioned EMD F-Units pulling them. The A and B units, possibly in the old Santa Fe "War Bonnet" livery. As a New Yorker, I also envisioned the jet black art deco livery of the old New York Central System lol

Nice catch. We have been lucky enough to have travelled on The Indian Pacific Sydney to Perth and The Ghan Adelaide to Darwin. Both great trips. We think The Indian Pacific is the better trip. One point, The IP does not go thru Dubbo as there is no rail line from Dubbo to Broken Hill. It goes via Parkes, Ivanhoe Menindee then to Broken Hill.

As a Canadian on one of those Indian Pacific's it was a joy to go through Mt. Lofty. Unfortunately, we were westbound so most of the route was completed at night in the dark 😞. Gregg, I recommend you do it or the Ghan sometime, I doubt VIA can match the exceptional service.

Different kind of rolling stock video. A great passenger train. I love the stainless steel look. Very similar to the Santa Fe Super Chief of the 1950's. It is very cool that Australia has a passenger car touring train. Who makes the passenger cars?
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms Жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob! It is a classic look and these cars were made in the 70's by "Commonwealth Engineering" in Australia , with the newer ones being rebuilt locally but I don't know who by. It's a tourism train now , so you can't catch it to go between stops, like you could years ago, which is a shame. It's just full of rich pensioners now...LOL Cheers Gregg.

Heading down to Australia from Canada in March. Taking the Indian Pacific from Perth to Sydney while there. Did the Ghan Expedition just before covid. Hoping our IP trip is as enjoyable. Are you still in Brisbane or has the move happened already? We are travelling with another couple. He and I are big into the Model Railroad scene here in Vancouver. As we will also be heading up to Brisbane after a few days in Sydney, I'm wondering about a tour of the Birdwood Sub? Is it even possible? Regardless, watch all your vids. Enjoy your presentation!! I loved my trip across Canada, and I hope to go back and do it again soon. The trip from Adelaide to Sydney will be OK , especially if you come up through the Hills ! I'm still in Brisbane and I won't be pulling down the layout till late this year, so you're more than welcome to come by for a look. I'll contact you again on a date closer to our actual arrival. Further to your reply, you have to remember. The Mountains and the trees are my backyard! Just as the dessert is yours. What's fascinating to me is how people have found a way to make that harsh environment work. No "Coober Pedy's" in Canada that I can think of? And.......if I get bored looking at dessert, there is always the Bar Car.😉 Glad you Loved your time on the "Canadian and the "Rocky M'eer".
