nothing will beat my first travel experiences on Indian railways as a foreign teenager. the slippery veg thalis on board, the best omelette of my life somewhere between Calcutta & Ahmedabad, the men coming through with hardboiled eggs & spice.. "anda anda anda!", the dining rooms with 'extra gravy' charges in Rajasthan. it's still so magical to me, even decades later 🥰 i love you, India

IRCTC has worked hard and improved the hygiene and quality of food alot compared to what it is used to be. As a regular traveller and as a patreon for Indian Railways I can assure you that the food is good. The quantity may be less for one person but quality is taken care.

IRCTC का ये मेगा किचन बहुत ही अच्छा है लेकिन भारत में रेलयात्रियों की जरूरत का 1% भी नहीं है ‌। रेल यात्रा के दौरान भारतीय यात्रियों को ताजा स्वच्छ भोजन नाश्ता मिलना। किसी सपने जैसा है। अगर रेल्वे यात्रियों को सिर्फ अच्छी क्वालिटी की चाय परोस दे। तो इतना पैसा पैसा इकट्ठा कर लें की अपने सारे कर्मचारियों को सिर्फ चाय से कमाये पैसों से सैलरी दे सकती है। और नाश्ता और खाना तो छोड़ ही दें। लेकिन सरकारी तंत्र ये होने नहीं देगा।

Just before commenting about hygiene, the manager itself handled peeled chicken with bare hands, without gloves. Forget those chefs who don't use gloves while peeling brinjal

Handling ingredients without gloves before and during cooking is not that big a problem. The main concern is with handling cooked food without gloves.

Same menu in kathgodam satabadi, in night u get rice, dal, capsicum panner, roti (too thin). No change of menu from many years. In breakfast they gave amul butter then nova then other brand. Fare increased but food is same 🤣

They offer free health care and very good health care, housing, best schooling etc...because the country OWNS MOST OF THE MAJOR COMPANIES.. ALL THE PROFITS, DON'T MAKE AN ADANI OR AMBANI RICH, BUT IT MAKES EVERY CITIZEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF in Singapore! Indians need to wake up and stop this theft!!! Singapore also pays their government employees a good pay so there is no corruption and that they do the work and not sleep on the job. Open.your eyes to the poverty in India!!! They could live like the people of Singapore!!! But in India the super rich are robbing all the wealth for themselves and the PM constantly talks to the Bharkts that is the way to do it. Brainwashing them!!! Most Indians have not gone to Singapore to see what they too can have!! But we have leaders in India that want to be treated like Gods! When the man that changed Singapore died, he asked for a simple as possible ceremony and no kind of pictures of him like you would see in India!! Please study how Singapore was able to create a government that takes good care of their citizens!! It is a beautiful country in spite of the huge population with no natural resources. The Singapore Airport itself is the best in the world!!! That is a fact! India has so many resources. But the super rich like the Adanis and Ambanis are robbing the country blind. If India was able to keep those profits they could use the money to build better hospitals, schools, transportation. Singapore has the best public transportation with subways that go all over the place. They were able to built the best airport because they had all the profits from their companies to use for these projects! India gives these projects to the Adanis and Ambanis and then does not have the money, majority of the people live in poverty!! Singapore used to have slums too, but today they have none! Every citizen has a place to live and get the best health care. Please get the word out!!! Stop the nonsense having in India and robbing the country!

First IRCTC needs to work on their kitchen hygiene as their topmost priority across classes. After they have got rid of the cockroaches, lizards and rats not to forget other sundry pests and vermin then we can talk about IRCTC being unique and on par with the best railway kitchens in the world. Low cost cheap food should not compromise food hygiene and packing. Millions of Indians travel second and general classes, should they be denied fresh hygienic food only because they are paying less. This feature is undermining the middle class Indians that also want hot fresh meals but are denied the same. Anyways thanks to NG for highlighting this feature which is always debatable.

One thing I have noticed is that Indians eat a lot better than the average American. The average American are reduced to fast food with lots of preservatives and TV dinners with again, a ton of preservatives. Since it all frozen it does not have any taste. In India it is all fresh food without preservatives! And all delicious meals with spices. American cuisine is very crude as America.is a new nation unlike India that is thousands of years to perfect their cuisine. I envy the folk in India. I used to feel sorry for them as we were made to believe we were in the best country. They have a better quality of life. I just wish they would improve the hygiene standards for all their people and folk on the net will not pick on India for a lack of hygiene.

Why do you have to imagine that, it can happen while you are eating your food a spider falls or a lizard in your soup at your home, what are you going to do about it. So rather than imagining, think and suggest positively what we can to provide a solution. For instance, hygiene in the kitchen which lot of the catering company follows but still needs to be enforced as a mandatory rule and punishable offence for those who are new starters in the business.

I dont know aboout IRCTC kitchen but i travel a lot by train and their Pantry sucks, Its just awful. Also one more point i want to mention. Food is basic need, no matter what class or creed you are the food you eat and the quality should be same for everyone who travel. For first class traveller one food and other sick food for sleeper class should be abolished. treatment should be the same for every passenger.
