If you ever want to make another Aliens Iceberg, I highly recommend the 1970’s Aveley Abduction. It didn’t have any Greys, instead it had these tall, pale, almost translucent Aliens who were wearing Surgery suits and had glowing Pink eyes. They also had these creepy Wookie-looking short aliens acting as their apprentices. The tall aliens were very talkative and gave the kidnapped couple a tour of their ship and explanation for everything onboard. They said strange things that basically implied they were Humanitys Ancestor-Species. The abduction culminated with the couple being shown a hologram of their Homeworld, which they had killed due to pollution, causing them to come to the Solar System and live on Earth underground. They told the Couple they would “meet again”

I always thought the temple of doom dinner scene was supposed to be a contrast to the villagers from earlier in the movie. The excess of the palace and their hostility contrasts how the villagers are kind and despite having no food choose to feed Indy and Short Round. The palace is evil hand having a curse is why they are eating snakes and insects while the food given by the villagers was vegetables more in line with typical Indian food. There is a deleted scene in the script where Indy is suspicious after dinner scene saying to Short Round something like Hindus consider life sacred and makes you wonder what’s really going on here.

I think the scene itself isn't the issue, it's how it fits into the wider picture, just keeping the deleted scene would help a LOT

I remember playing the Lego Indiana Jones games. An interesting change is like that every villian sorta get what they want? They get supernatural powers from the artifact of their movie and are fought as a boss fight. The British guy from The Ark of the Covenant gets transformed into a strange Angel thing The Cult Leader in Temple of Doom animates his Idol into a moving lava-golem show in the movie. The other evil British guy who drinks from the wrong Cup in Last Crusade gets Whirlwind powers? Might be related to time or something. In Crystal Skull, the Crystal Skeleton that the scary Russian Lady who puts its skull back gets her Psychic powers strengthened from it.

Yeah that’s one of the reasons why it bombed imo. Disney hasn’t done anything with Indy besides let Fortnite use him in the 12 years they’ve owned the IP. Gen Z barely know Indy exists. They probably know him more from parodies and references then the actual films. A shame because an animated Indiana Jones series would go so hard

But none of them barely watched the movies, to say the least. I've been a huge Indy fan ever since I was a toddler, my first Lego set was Indy themed. honestly this got to be one of your absolute best iceberg. as someone who grew up with theses films but also hasn't watch them in a long time so i'm a bit of out of it with the series, it was really interesting to learn so much goddamn weird stuff there is with this series,. seriously this video made me realize how wack this series actually is. also surprise in the fortnite section i'm a little surprised how you didn't mention that in one POI on the map ( forgot witch one ) there was puzzle in the area where you had to find some symbols in the area to make a pattern to upen a secret area with loot, and hen you go in a boulder falls ( JUST LIKE THE MOVIE ) and you got to outrun it, i actually remember getting killed by the boulder a couple times and getting really annoyed cause solving the puzzle can be real annoying since unless you done it a million times you'll have no clue what order the symbols go in even if you find them all since it changes every game so i had to had to keep troubleshooting it tell i get it right.

A fun little iceberg entry regarding the music: there’s evidence that John Williams wrote a concert version of the new Naz- err, Axis Powers themes in Dial of Destiny and then largely scrapped it. The only evidence is that there are two spots of the soundtrack where pieces of it were edited in. The brass fanfare at the start of the Axis Power themes in the end credits (Prologue on the OST) appears to be the opening, while the final 30 seconds or so of “Voller’s Return” is the closing. The rest of the piece is unheard. We know this because of the public cue sheet database for the movie listing a unique cue titled “N*zis” in those spots and only those spots. There’s a forum post that goes into more detail about it, but that’s the gist of it.

@@GoldSayaProductions yes! Thank you for your info. I’m actually really interested in this. I hope to make an animated short, and later a tv show using the bones of these attempts at cinematic universes, with my own style of course. The only problem is that im trying to reconcile the two different settings into one. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (which is not what im calling my team) takes place before WW1, and fits there best, while the Dark Universe was supposed to take place in the Modern World and I think it fits there best as well, as the idea of ancient monsters slowing emerging into our world feels intriguing. I’m currently considering either time travel, and the (different name for league) travels forward and back in time to help their time period and our own, as they can’t beat the monsters, only slow them, and the modern world is their resurfacing.

Now that I think of it, John Hurt playing Marion's father in Kingsom of the Crystal Skull would've been a idea. The Oxley character was new and wasn't in the previous films so Mutt being raised by his maternal grandfather and going to Indiana Jones to find him would've fit the story.

31:02 I'm going to be completely honest, the 4 main points of racism that you brought up as examples of points people have said ToD being racist (besides the Blackface point) aren't that racist in my honest opinion, and I know you didn't brought them up yourself, just listing them out as examples. The first point of ToD being racist is it depicting Blackface. And while yes, it is in fact racist, but however, it's something that could have been allowed into the movie, let me explain. Yes, it isn't exactly politically correct, but there were some norms back then which are now seen as pretty racist but we're seen as either moderately racist or comedic banter by a lot of people at the time still. The 1980s wasn't the most ideal standard of what is considered to be an anti-racist society, as yes, the 1980s certainly weren't the 1910-30s, but they aren't current standards, meaning that some of the norms back then that we see as slightly racist/bigoted back then were still around. So I would say that it was a product of its time, as during the time of the movie's release, the Civil Rights Act was barely 15 years old and the Black Panthers were still a major group within US politics, modern anti-racist/bigotry laws were still in there infancy. As while it wasn't the 1910-30s, it definitely isn't the current standards. TL;DR: The Blackface was definitely racist by current standards, but was somewhat considered normal during the 1980s due to anti-racist/bigotry laws still taking a hold within society during the 80s, so I would give a pass to a certain extent. The second (Indiana Jones being a White Savior) and fourth (Indiana Jones being pro-British Empire propaganda) points of ToD being racist are literal reaches lmao. As they don't even feel like pointing out legitimate racism and are just grasping straws to justify a political narrative. The Indiana Jones being a White Savior makes no sense, as that's not what a White Savior is. A White Savior is a White person that is entirely integrated in a non-White society that is the protagonist that saves non-White people. Indiana Jones isn't that at all in ToD and is mostly an foreign explorer from a White country that is there for his own personal goals, not there to save non-White people. Also, the movie was made in a White majority country, of course a White person would play the main character due to the population being predominantly White. ToD being pro-British Empire propaganda makes no sense either, as the people who use that argument seem to falsely equate a support group saving the protagonist group from the antagonist group with the British attempting to civilize the Indians, as that wasn't the intention of the British troops in ToD. If they were going to make that kind of movie, they would have made it like that. Also, Captain Blumburtt saying that Britain should rule the world isn't an indication of pro-British Empire propaganda, as there's a massive difference between mentioning something versus endorsing something. Mentioning something for the sake of fitting the historical setting isn't necessarily propaganda while endorsing something is one form of propaganda, as if it was actually endorsing pro-British Empire propaganda, then it would've done so both explicitly and inexplicitly. TL;DR: Indiana Jones being a White Savior or ToD being pro-British Empire propaganda are terrible arguments are terrible arguments to prove that ToD is racist that not only get the definitions they use wrong, but also just unnecessarily overanalyze the movie to justify a political narrative. The third point of ToD being racist is the Indian dinner scene. While you can argue that it appears to be not exactly politically correct, I wouldn't personally say that it's racist towards non-White people. As you described the counter-argument to that talking-point (a poorly acted/scripted joke) pretty well, so I don't really need to thoroughly describe why it's not racist in my opinion. Overall, I can totally understand why people would call ToD a racist film, as it definitely has a lot of issues and hasn't aged well both in terms of writing and depiction of non-White people, as a movie styled and written like this would definitely not be made today. But however, besides the Blackface thing, none of the points you mentioned as examples of points people have said ToD being racist aren't that racist in my honest opinion, as they either take things out of context or over exaggerate them. As yes, it isn't exactly politically correct, but there are far worse movies that are leagues more racist than ToD that should be talked about more than ToD in my opinion. And like I said earlier, I know you didn't brought them up yourself, just listing them out as examples for the video.
@BrickMania2
@BrickMania2 4 ай бұрын
I mostly agree however I think your points on Blackface as well as the dinner scene do less to suggest the film ISN'T racist, and more to explain that it wasn't INTENDED to be. Blackface, no matter when it happened, is racist. And the dinner scene, regardless of intent, is racist. The British Empire thing I do agree with you on. There's plenty of historical context to suggest that the way in which they act in the movie is spot on, even if the way they act is wrong. But, again, even if they did not intend to be racist, they were. Making up a white actor to be a different race, is racist. Portraying Indian cuisine as bugs and brains, is racist. And that doesn't make Temple of Doom a bad film but, again, it does, in some ways, make it a racist film. We're at the point where we know, unless you're an idiot which you clearly are not, that those things are bad, so I think it's fine to watch and appreciate the film while still acknowledging those things.
@crysis3015
@crysis3015 4 ай бұрын
@@BrickMania2 I think the thing you're looking for is that they had a good premise but bad execution and didn't execute it a way that make it appropriate with , which caused some people to claim that they're racist. As if the intention isn't racist, then it isn't racist, as it's quite difficult to justify racism when they didn't have an intention to do so, as it just comes off an assumption for a political narrative. It's more rather that they have good premise but bad execution and had a lack of forethought about it in my opinion. They could have easily made those scenes appropriate without coming off as racist to some people. You can have Indian people have a dinner scene eating insects and monkey brains without it being racist, as if the context was them being insane lunatics that was done to showcase how they devolved into being insane, then that's not racist. It's just that they bad bad execution and wasn't exactly appropriate. Not to mention that it makes sense why they would eat insects and monkey brains, as those are the animals in India, so it makes sense why they would eat that as a way to express the cult's depravity. As for the Blackface, yeah I can't justify that, it is racist, but like I said, it was during a time where Civil Rights laws and anti-racist/bigot sentiment were in their infancy in the US, so some people didn't have a concrete anti-racist/bigot views back then, so some stuff like Blackface was somewhat normalized in some instances in the 1970-80s, so it gets a pass to a certain extent. All in all, the racism accusations besides the Blackface tend to neglect the fact that it's either out of context or neglect the fact that it's mostly good premise but bad execution that isn't exactly appropriate. That, and combined with the fact that the movie has poorly aged and you get an disaster waiting to happen.
