I remember trolling our IT teacher in school, the school had software so the teacher could monitor what the students were doing on their PC's, so they could see all the monitors and block certain programs from running depending on what the lesson allowed. We found out if you filled a notepad with some data and then shut down the PC, it would close the spyware before it prompted you to save the unsaved data, if you then hit cancel you could do whatever you wanted since the spyware was no longer running. From that point you could elevate your privileges and then re-run the spyware, but since it now thought you were a teacher you had the same control as the teacher, you could now see all the monitors in the classroom and drop files onto those machines. That allowed us to make small vbs scripts and bat files that did things like repeatedly open and close the CD drive, or open notepad a billion times until the PC crashed, we never got caught because our IT teacher's knowledge of computers started and stopped at knowing how to use spreadsheets. The only people who knew the systems inside and out were the people who set it up, and they were contractors, so you could do whatever you wanted on the school's server because there basically were no admins, we'd spend our lunch breaks exploring the school server and watching people on the security cameras or disabling certain doors, so they couldn't be opened by card readers, you could even change the database so if you skipped a class the computers would say you were present. Honestly, we learned more by breaking the school's rules than from following them, the best bit was changing which rooms classes would take place so that we could host secret LAN parties, we just had command and conquer tournaments hosted by the school's server and as far as the teachers knew we were all attending the "Advanced BTEC in ICT" which was a fake class we'd invented and added to the timetables.

Compression is also the reason why videos with falling snow makes KZbin poop itself. It can't convert any of it to a picture, so it has to split up the memory to everything.

Compression is basically like exponents in math, think about it: Let's say you have 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2We can shorten this down to 2^5, because there are 5 twos, you can put two to the power of 5 Both of those equal to 32, but it's faster to write 2^5

Speaking about compression, back in the good old days when I had my PSP I used not to buy the games due to budget problems which concluded to me downloading ISOs from the internet. I couldn't afford to a memory card so I had only a 2GB one which allowed me to put only 2 or, sometimes, 1 game. So I did some research and found a software which was able to change the format of an ISO file to something that I cannot recall right now, so that it can make it smaller!

There is also batch bombs which just opens up infinite amounts of command prompts which will eventually crash ur pc. U can do it with 3 very simple lines of code in notepad++ or a text document. If u wanna have like a harmless prank against a friend u can look it up. It can be kinda startling tho cus it opens so many cmds so quickly.

that's kinda like a fork bomb, basically, the fork bomb opens a copy of itself in a loop, which is a lot faster than just opening cmd. Also, it can make a good pc run out of program ids, so you can't even run the shutdown program, and you need to pull the power. if you want to be more evil, you can make a fork bomb the shell, so if I remember correctly it will start even in safe mode. you can also make shutdown -r the shell so it reboots in a loop. if making a program the shell doesn't work, you can replace explorer.exe.

Pretty cool :D Just a little "recap" on file compression for those who didn't have understand it correctly. Gunzip (.gz) is included in TAR and can't be used alone. This two things, one's combined give you the .tar.gz "compression" file extension. But you can obviously just use tar alone if you want to and it'll work completely fine :) at the opposite, you'll be forced to use TAR if you want to also use GUNZIP (.gz) on any file. FYI: A tar file is the concatenation of one or more files. It creates a single archived file out of many files, but does not compress them. GZIP compresses a single file into another single file, but does not create archives. ...Although it file format also allows for multiple such streams to be concatenated (zipped files are simply decompressed concatenated as if they were originally one file), gzip is normally used to compress just single files. Compressed archives are typically created by assembling collections of files into a single tar archive, and then compressing that archive with gzip. that's why the .tar.gz "compression" extension is so widely used ;)

@@Trowo when you are compressing something specific, you can tailor the algorithm to that, compared to general algorithms. 12mb is still hard to believe, but if you get rid of cinematics and heavily compress the textures, you can get quite a big improvement. for example of such compression ratios, a mid(i) file of the 12 days of christmas takes 6kB, and the mp3 of the same song takes 6MB and a wav(e) would probably take around 60MB. note that I haven't checked the gta 4 12 mb, but it seems plausible with a lot of downgrades.

speaking of that there are 2 types of memory, short-term memory and long-term memory. RAMs are short-term memory and hard drive, flash drives, sd cards, etc are long-term memory.

Storage is also called ROM = read only memory, this is the memory that is kept after booting down your computer and stays unchanged until you delete something, and it includes all sorts of common, uncommon, hidden, shown, accessible or unaccessible files. So you can call storage memory too.
