The way you had to stick your finger in there and wiggle it to push the top piece up is exactly what I thought of with this being a noodling puzzle. Sticking a hand into a crevice and wiggling a finger is how a noodler might tempt a catfish to strike.

The seam on that one pop out panel is visible, but only with the light at a particular angle, and the wood grain definitely helps camouflage it

Any puzzle solution that results in "a small red rish" makes me suspicious that it is a fake solution, since it might just be a Red Herring

Not sure, but I made a chessboard 20-odd years ago that used lacewood for the light squares, and that looked very similar to the wood used in the Noodling Box.

It's only to show you what's inside. I can actually see it without but it's impossible to see it in the video without additional light.
