It's like doing an autopsy to a body you received with like 72 stab wounds. You don't really need an autopsy of the body to know what killed the person. Probably more of an autopsy to figure out the childhood and every decision made that led them to the moment of being stabbed!

As a South African fan this game against the Netherlands was an incredibly depressing moment for me and the one that finally made me believe in my heart that we will never win a World Cup. I think that up until now I'd convinced myself that we'd one day overcome this and win one, but I don't believe that anymore. It was to some degree chance that we got unlucky those first two or three times but they left a scar on the players' psyche that they just can't overcome. And the longer it goes on, the more likely it becomes that the scar will never heal. Each World Cup the Proteas have this mental weight stopping them from performing when it matters and each failure ensures that it's still there next time. Whatever possible pitfall presents itself, we will inevitably fall into it.

I'm an England fan who grew up in the 90s, expecting us never to win the Ashes. All it takes is one game to change years of habit and hurt. Never stop believing - although preferably, South Africa win one tournament and them promptly go up to ballsing it up dramatically the rest of the time.
@bernstot2 жыл бұрын
This is a very good point, but I think the dynamics in cricket, especially over decades, can change so drastically. With new sides playing well and well established sides doing poorly, we are not entirely sure of what is to come and I think seeing our favorite Protea cricketers doing well and our non-favorites doing poorly in the games leading up to the world cup sometimes gives us a false perception of what these players are really capable of when it comes down to it. The whole scene in South African cricket needs to be overhauled and something new needs to come in and reinvent what it means to be good team. We can no longer rely on big quicks, big hitters and tough opening batsman to see us through every game, with the help of some good fielding. We need to be exposed to different perspectives from teams already established in world cricket. Our 'fallback systems' are outdated.

@nuxxism Жыл бұрын
@@pavankulkarni286 The problem is there is no point enforcing it just at the top level. I agree that top level cricket should be representational for a country where whites are only 10% of the population and blacks are 80%. But It's not the players, the management, or even CSA's fault that cricket is not representational at lower levels. It is because our pipeline is mostly from elite schools and families who can afford support younger players, and that's a social/class divide that also falls into a race divide because of our history. A SA cricket team with majority white players does look "ugly", but that's because the social system in our country is still "ugly". Forcing players of colour is a thin veneer on top that only looks better, but doesn't fix anything.

The story of 2007 Wt20 is similar to what happened to them in 2022 WT20. They played their final game against India. It was a must win game for India because a win is the only thing that would've got them through to the Semi finals after having a 3 way tie between Ind-NZ-RSA. RSA had the strongest run rate,so for all money people were betting who (between Ind and NZ) would progress along with RSA into the semi finals. The only goof up that RSA would've done was lose by a significant margin, that would've dropped their NRR below Ind and NZ. So they had to stay clear of that. But That's exactly what they ended up doing. India batted 1st put 150 odd on the board. RSA having a strong chase suddenly lost wickets in heap and an Indian win looked inevitable. So only thing RSA had to do was to reach 126 so that they could stay above NZ. But They failed to do that as well. Scoring only 116 and the team that had one leg in the semi final crashed out. They gave a new lease to NZ that time And this time it is Pakistan.
@SohamBhattacharya31052 жыл бұрын

The best chance for South Africa was the 1999 world cup. That was a really tragic ending coz they had the game in the bag..... and it was one of the greatest odi sides you will ever see....full of brilliant all rounders.....top batsmen.... brilliant bowlers and jonty and others in the field. The Aussies learnt alot from that south african team and adopted the same formula and the Aussies became dominant after that. In other world cups they didnt have a dominant team like the team of the late 90s. And in south african cricket, politics also gets involved, so you have no idea what happens internally. Since 2000s SA cricket has been undergoing many changes influenced by ministers in charge. But in the late 90s they dominated odi home and away with only Australia being the country who could challenge them.

There 21 south african cricketers playing for other countries, and 21 got retired. I think the quota system makes it hard for players to sit out on bench and wait, SA should remove quota system, it actually doesn't do any good to them, rather make cricket coaching free for those that are getting quota, they have better players sitting on bench because they need to give quota, so that is the reason why they lose actually.

2 reasons why SA haven't won.. Firstly ,it's the culture of SA cricket,an overhang from isolation days. During that 70-91 period , SA provincial cricket was Unbelievably tough. Matches were played with the intensity of tests and South Africans really believed that they had the best team in cricket on their home grounds. Probably two teams ,the Transvaal mean machine and Western province would have challenged most test sides in SA conditions. Post isolation,that changed, more teams entered the system and the local scene become much more diluted. The next problem is that SA fast bowlers do not bowl the yorke and haven't since Fanie De Villiers..only Langeveldt and Magala have had quality yorkers since then. That's fine for express Nortje who's been excellent but medium pacers like KG, Parnell and Ngidi only have the slower ball as a variation. KG 2/150 at 9.43 RPO in this tournament.

I still remember Sunday people were saying India might be choking against Zim and no way SA will lose to Netherlands. Quite the opposite happened.

Rain, DLS catches of feet etc. But the last couple of years we have really be plagued by some really bad team choices and some very weak coaching. 2015, Dropping Abbot for Philander. Nothing against the player but you do not drop a player who is bowling well and put someone in that hardly played a game!?! 2022 T20 vs Pakistan and The Netherlands.. Bowlers had no idea where of how to bowl to the batsman, there was one plan and when that didn't work, the rest of the time it was swinging the arm over and hoping for the best. We kept on sticking to a player out of form in Bavuma while Reeza Hendriks who scored 4 x 50s in a row was sitting on the bench. As long as the SA team stick to incorrect team selections and walk on the field with 0 idea of how to win the game I do not see a trophy any time soon..

You are correct …no one , neither fans or players care for Champions trophy . Only ICC is interested in that . Better would be to host a Continental Champions Trophy where Continents fight it out Europe -from players of England Ireland Netherlands Africa and America - Windes , SA , Zim Pacific - Australia NZ Mainland Asia - India Pakistan Rest of Asia - Sri Lanka , Bangladesh , UAE .

You completely left out the 2007 world t20 where on home soil they somehow managed to knock themselves out of the final group game despite leading the group going into the game vs India

As a great supporter of South African cricket , I am saddened by the current state of affairs of Proteas. If they don't win any major tournament soon then it will eventually lead to a serious decline of cricket in South Africa, Unfortunately I don't see South Africa winning any major tournament anytime soon. Especially if qouta system and not merit would be the deciding factor for entry into not just South African A & main teams but also at domestic level. This doesn't mean Rabada & Nguidi are bad , they are excellent bowlers , but we need to ask why so many talented white south african players are playing for other countries. It's high time the Proteas got their house in order and reemrge like the force they were during the late 1990s & early 2000. International cricket needs them.

Have been watching South Africans since 1996 - they are alone responsible for all there chokes - I used to sympathies with them - but not after this Netherlands match - of Nortje could bat decently (as depicted by the boundary he hit in his very first ball), then why wasn't Keshav retired Only 1992 WC was the one where we can say that it was unjust - rest all the time they alone responsible for there lack of performance, or brainlessness, or focus

I think the inevitability of the demise of SA cricket started way before the 1999 Donald Klusener debacle. The glimmer often shown is underpinned and undermined by a failed selection system. The current standard of domestic cricket is so terribly woeful that it doesnt even warrant mentioning. My advice to anyone who has talented kids wanting to play international cricket, that is chosen on ability, should send them abroad to play asap. Its not only the national team which is plagued by this nonsence, even the over 50s team selection is a mess with political selection, corruption and the rest. A sad state of affairs...

And yet the Springboks perform better at world cups than between them. The different psychology of these teams is weird.
