The clip comes from the NBC special NBC The First Fifty Years which aired on Nov. 21st 1976 which was produced by the late Greg Garrison. The clip was sandwich between The Jackson Five and singer John Denver. This was not the only black Quartet that was shown on that special. They show a 20 second of The Mills Brothers singing live in 1950 "Sweet Lucy Brown."

This kinda scared me, I fell alseep while listening to KZbin and had my auto play on. And all of a sudden I hear Bill screaming in my ear. Also can we take a moment to discuss how hot herb looked lol.

Austin, what is a band that sounds like these groups in the modern age? If any.
@AustinCasey8 ай бұрын
I dont know of any sadly. There were tons of groups in the Ink Spots' style back in the day though as I'm sure you know. Have you checked out my Playlist "Bands Similar To The Ink Spots"? Also here's this... not sure you're familiar with this group or not.kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6qZqYihn8iHh6Msi=CKOx23BZl3On6Kd6

@@AustinCasey I'm familiar with the five red caps, sorry for the late response. The five red caps sounded a lot like the spots.

Where'd you manage to get this from?
@AustinCasey3 жыл бұрын
A friend of mine got it from an NBC special from the 70s or 80s celebrating an anniversaryof the station. I'm not even sure what original show exactly this was taken from. Hope you're doing well my friend!

@@AustinCasey I'm doing alright, man. Nice to see you pop up every now and again. I wish it happened a little more often, mind, but I understand that life happens and/or you just don't always have something to upload. It is what it is. By the way, whatever did you do with those videos you did showing off your Ink Spots stuff? Those were interesting.

@@innoclarke7435 I wasn't happy with the production of those Ink Spots collection videos. I may do some in the future though. My collection is expanding but not at the rate it was before. Stay tuned!

@@AustinCasey Going by the curtain backdrop and the fact that it is live, this looks like it might be from the Toast of the Town. None of the performances of the Ink Spots on that show have ever been released, and it's one of the mysteries I often ponder as to why. I'd love to see them, to be certain! They are doing a great job with their YT channel, so let's hope much more rare footage will continue to be released!

@@TomElvisSmith I've been checking the Sullivan channel daily since they first went up in the hopes that they'd release some Ink Spots and/or Bill Kenny performances. This is undoubtedly from Sullivan but its interesting to note its just part of the tune. Bill Kenny only sings the beginning of the chorus until Herb comes in to do the recitation. This is most likely from 1949, maybe 1950. I really hope someday they release more. I've waited nearly 15 years for their Sullivan performances to be released!

You've been through the mills brothers live & record stuff during the 50's year. Wasn't most of that hit or miss?
