I'm so mixed on this finale, because it's very clearly set up to have a part two finale of some kind, whether a movie or a final season, it's clear the intention was for this to set up something else, but that hasn't happened despite how many times it was suppose to happen. I fully agree that, as an episode, this episode is fantastic, and even as a finale it kinda fits to just kinda... stop, which was always what Rob was scared of happening! That said, the issue I have is, oddly enough, how much confidence it had in a continuation, despite that maybe not happening in hindsight. When it ends with 'It Started', and we get basically nothing else on a continuation, and we're just supposed to accept this as the only closure, it's definitely hard to swallow. If it had actually gotten a timely conclusion, no issue! But we don't live in that timeline. If it just had a little bit of uncertainty, and ended with him saying 'It's Over' instead, it'd be way easier to accept as a finale, and would make one last continuation only that much more intriguing! But, for what it is, I definitely think this episode, as an episode, and finale, are better than most people wanna give it credit for!

There are amazing layers that I think would be lost if it gets revived, like how the *finale* is initially a school of weirdos fighting against a Big Bad Authority plot which on any other network, in any other situation, would be like the fifth or fourth generic one - but why is it *the ending* to this show? Because Cartoon Network wanted to overhaul their network and cater toward a less “toon” centered demographic, with the Zaslav/Snyder stand-in attempting to make the kids/network fit in more. Doesn’t Zaslav sound like an extremely cartoony name? It also works as a metaphor to what would eventually happen to the studio itself: being sold off for parts by people who don’t understand animation or why it functions the way it does.

Personally I didn’t mind this finale because when I first saw it, I could tell from the start that this episode. Not every finale needs to be a big epic finale that ties up all loose threads & makes you cry once it’s over. Sometimes all a shows finale needs to do is justify the shows existence. And that’s what this episode did. It put the cartoon logic this show had always had to the test. It answered why this form of logic is needed & that’s all it needed to do. Although I would’ve preferred it if they found a way to implement the Watterson family into the story. Since I feel like as the show went on. It slowly shifted away from constant school based adventures & more into family based adventures. Because season 6 on its own didn’t really have Gumball & Darwin at the school that much aside from a couple of episodes.

13:48 I think, the reason WHY the fandom didn't accept it very well, was because it didn't feature that scene Banana Barbara drew MANY episodes ago (The episode that revealed she can paint the Future to the characters) of "The Watterson family being surrounded by the Void". The fandom would have probably accepted the cliffhanger finale better if it minimum ended with THAT shot. With them probably making a call back to "The Finale" (The S2 season Finale), with Maybe Gumball desperately and weakly saying "This is the part when we are magically saved at the last minute and everything goes back to normal, right, Right, RIGHT?!" Cue the image of the family teased many episodes ago, everything freezes, maybe shows static before cutting to the credits. 14:48 That and resolve that chevkov's gag about that painting

This may sound like the work of a conspiracy theorist, but I think that what Banana Barbara said by “There is no future” was true in the sense of what eventually happened with the WB Discovery acquisition. There is no future because it is tossed away for reality TV, TLC, HGTV or “normal programming”. Meanwhile, animated content or “out of the norm programming” is either cancelled, scrapped, or removed from HBO Max with some not cancelled and the only stronghold TV program block that is creating original animated content being Adult Swim. Think about it, most of the 2010’s CN hit shows were cancelled before the acquisition, almost like a premonition of things to come. Sure there was “Fiona and Cake” but that was geared towards an audience that grew up with Adventure Time. Close Enough, Infinity Train, Mao Mao, and Final Space were all IPs that did not have a large audience, so they were axed when the merger happened.
@baalfgames5318Ай бұрын
What's funny is, how you see the ending as the show's cancelation is possibly what the intent of the Teen Titans finale was, with the monster being black and white to represent Cartoon Network. But obviously, it's interesting, because with time I'm now looking at the movie we we're trying to make back then differently. So it's kinda like a good thing in a sense, but also bad, that I get to sort of like revise the story and stuff and have a really new take on it. So it is not dead." which implies its going to be different from this just as controversial synopsis for the original version teased back in 2021 "Gumball’s biggest fan finds the show’s missing episode and accidentally opens a portal connecting his world to Gumball’s cartoon world. Upon meeting his heroes, our super fan decides to team up with Gumball, Darwin, Anais, Richard and Nicole to save them from a nefarious force overtaking Elmore, while inadvertently unleashing a threat of their very own."

Okay I could be wrong about this but from what I was able to read up and research Ben Bocquelet the creator of The Amazing World Of Gumball though happy about the success of his series always intended to have it go on ONLY 6 seasons. He only had so many ideas for episodes and admitted he knew of shows that went on longer after the passion died out and they were just making them without care and didn't want to do that with Gumball. Of course, as he doesn't OWN the series since yeah if you create a show for a Network on TV it's the network that owns and decides what to do with it and thus if the network wanted more he would have to let them do so. However in 2018 it seemed like he and CN made a deal where Gumball would end with season 6 and that he could make a follow up movie if there was fan demand which yeah after how "The Inquistion" ended there was certainly demand. But that's all Ben planned on doing with the show and how long Gumball was at one point supposed to go on for; just six seasons and the movie. But yeah that changed because like Spongebob, Gumball unexpedetley rose up and yeah weirdly enough became THE most popular Cartoon Network show at least with the core CN demographic of kids. Like even now Gumball airs 3 hours a day which considering regular CN isn't even airing 12 hours anymore (thanks to Checkboard Past being part of AS that means Adult Swim airs from 5PM to 6AM) that really shows even above stuff like Craig of the Creek, Regular Show and Teen Titans Go! how big a following the series has gotten and how CN is desperate to keep it going. Thus why in 2020 they did a bunch of recap episodes with some voice over to try and pretend there were new episodes while trying to line up a NEW deal with Ben. I guess CN though desperate for more Gumball content weren't stupid enough to go "Yeah let's just ditch the creator if they don't want to play ball like Hillenburg with Spongebob" after the SB's first movie, so tried negotiating a lot of deals with Bocquelet on how to continue the show. I believe at one point Ben was going to just make the movie and there was going to be a reboot of Gumball helmed by someone else but I think Ben officially signed on for another season which yeah is happening. Don't know how it relates to this ending since I know CN wouldn't want to fully end ANOTHER show like Gumball like that if they can just keep pumping them out but yeah it's clear there is more Gumball. I mean there's also going ot be more Adventure Time and Regular Show too because CN sadly can't get any new brands going especially with Max and Zaslav ruining that so they have to rely on while there is still a network previous hits to stay afloat. That said though I'm not the biggest fan of Gumball I don't think "The Inqusition" is bad. Though I never saw it as a finale as I always believe and still believe the movie will acknolwedge this. Whether it will tie into that seventh season coming is another thing but Gumball as a show hasn't yet end. Though yeah in a weird meta level this would be a decently solid idea though yeah I feel a finale movie would give more time for you know the family and town of Elmore to be involved then just focusing on the elementary school.
@baryardeni97314 ай бұрын
As somebody who haven’t seen a lot of this show growing up, I can definitely relate to both opinions to the Gumball's finale. On one hand, it does have a very creative idea for a series finale. But on the other hand… Yeah, that cliffhanger definitely killed it. Leaving cliffhangers is always a risky choice, because you can’t always guess if the show will have the last chance of revealing it’s open mysteries, like with the case of Teen Titans, Sonic the Hedgehog, Victor and Valentino, etc… Unless you are indeed planning to make a continuation, whether it will be a spin-off, a movie or even comics, maybe it’s not really a good move to leave the show with unanswered questions, because you may never get another chance to dive deep into them again. :/

I'm also the type to want spoilers, but only with tv shows. Literally, your reason for not minding spoilers is exactly my reason, too. My mind immediately goes, "What was the build-up to this spoiler part?"🌟

5:40 my husband and one of my friends are also on the spectrum and now I’m starting to think this is a common trait. They never care about spoilers at all. My husband especially loves watching KZbin shorts about all types of movies and tv shows he wants to watch. Don’t even get me started on Pokemon games lol

I actually didn't mind this episode qhen it came out. I thought it was quite good with funny moments and great tension. That was even before I knew it was a finale.
@MLittleBrony4 ай бұрын
i have basically the same thoughts. like, that's the only way this show _could_ have ended. it's a show about being a show. there is no "part two" needed because it's over. no one would call the end of the universe a "cliffhanger".
@morrisbeauregard2864 ай бұрын
For me, I always thought that "The Inquisition" as a finale was very _thematically_ satisfying, but not _emotionally_ satisfying. It completely jibes with the show, but it's a bummer of a note to end on. Unless, of course, it leads into the movie like it was supposed to, but the movie is up in the air, and Season 7 kind of undoes the meta-narrative a little.

Some cartoons don't really NEED a reboot. Regular Show is one of them I think, not just Gumball. Not familiar with Gumball or with Adventure Time honestly (I only really liked Regular Show as a kid). Might be unpopular but I think the big 3 early 2010s CN cartoons just need to be by-and-large over with, for now anyways. Maybe in like the 2030s when 2010s nostalgia is super huge but all three of those shows ran for a long time and had over 100 episodes.

On the topic of spoilers and endings, don't take this the wrong way: Please, apologize for that Danganronpa V3 Spoiler in the Your Name review. I don't care if you don't like the ending. The video wasn't about Danganronpa and you don't get to decide "Nah, I'm not gonna give a spoiler warning, because I don't give a %@$§." Good Gumball video though, I agree with you.

I mean, it’s an ok episode. But honestly the plot feels like it would make more sense for a half hour special or something. It’s a great premise for an episode. But honestly I feel it needs to be at minimum half an hour long. Maybe even a two parter so the effects of the world becoming plain can spread more. Really make it a big problem

Also same about the spoilers opinion. I enjoy learning about a story beforehand to catch my interest and then watching it myself to see the pieces come together in real time. My favorite story to get spoilers from is One Piece. Considering how expansive the world is and knowing who does what and why before the crew does give me an interesting experience.

Kind of surprised he didn’t mention Steven Universe or SVFOE as contentious finales but ig he didn’t want to hit a hornets nest

Surprised he mentioned Malcom in the Middle. I have met more people accepting their Finale. I would personally put Gurren Lagann 's finale minutes as an Ending that ruins everything for me. The whole "Nia dies right in her wedding" when it was completely unnecessary. Just Say she did the imposible and became a human that would die naturally from Age independently from The Anti-Spirals dying First Also Avataro Sentai DonBrothers 's Finale feeling like a melodramatic ripoff of Kamen Rider Revice's Finale by doing the "protagonist Will forget everything" cliché , and not in an earned way. Just randomly throw that at Best 2 episodes ago without Any Forshadowing, just for artificial "Finale" Ending while Also fightning 2 random idiots nobody Cares about

4:11 - 4:42 As a WandaVision fan, I totally relate to this. While I didn't think the finale was as bad as other people did, I have no problem calling it the weakest episode of the show, and it's sad to see so many people's opinions on what was a pretty deep and unique Marvel show go down the drain because of it.
