Wonderfully explained. Now I know what I suspected.... In my own words the line is skidding through the block when going backwards against the locked sheave in Ratchet Mode. Some sailors use this concept in a Block and Tackle mast climbing evolution me thinks.

One very important factor before anyone can utilize any teachings on just about anything is knowing how to communicate; otherwise, there's no point. Respectfully request, either show and / or tell defining the nomenclature used to project your idea. Namely, a 'legend' of sorts, preferably visual. As a P.E. (Professional Engineer), you of all people should know this to be true.. as truth goes. Regardless, it would be helpful. Thank you.
