So some additional info and clarifications regarding this video: • SF6 revealed that Akuma actually didn't want to kill his master Goutetsu initially. It's Goutetsu himself who insisted to make theirs a battle to the death, as there can only be one master of the fist. • SF6 also confirm that Akuma DID appear at the end of SF2 and rage demon'ed Bison to death. The SF4 OVA scene with Ryu, Ken, Chun, Guile and Cammy against Bison likely happened later and that was either a spare body of Bison or Bison didn't die to the raging demon. • Gen may have not necessarily beaten Akuma (in fact, it's likely that Akuma just left once he realized that Gen was terminally ill) but it seems that Gen did in fact survive the Raging Demon. • Poison story and gender is actually more complicate. Originally Akiman designed both her and Roxy as actual female ladies, but the higher ups at Capcom thought that the US wouldn't like having the MCs of Final Fight beat up women, so Akiman jokingly said "they're chicks with dicks". Still, Poison and Roxy would get replaced by Billy and Jean in the original US version of Final Fight. The push for Poison as trans didn't really become insistent until Street Fighter x Tekken and even then Capcom would walk back and forth until they made Poison Shroëndinger gender. • While Street Fighters had retcons, Cammy being Bison's ex-lover was NEVER true. It was a mistranslation just like Ryu's "you need to defeat Shen Long to stand a chance". What Bison said there to Cammy in her SF2 ending is that she used to be a spy working for him. • Seth wasn't actually killed by his copies. Bison beat his ass and then Juri killed him off by crushing his core with her feet. • Despite the homeless look, SF6 reveal that Ryu is actually quite rich thanks to the money he wins from tournaments and such. Ken even manage his finances. • Zangief in SF6 revealed that he had considered learning to shoot fireballs of his own like the other shoto, but he ultimately chose not as to "not betray his muscles". • As of SF6, Ed is around 13 years old. Meaning that when Balrog found him, the boy was less than 5 years old. • Just to give an idea of how strong Oro is, he and Akuma purposely choose to not fight each other, as they know if they did, they would end up killing each other. Meaning that Oro is about on par strength with the strongest character in Street Fighter.

The stuff with Poison you say is false, Poison was trans right from the start and manuals to final fight in Japan for various consoles and re-releases even state that she is trans, the idea that things were changed due to western values surrounding men hitting women is an urban myth, also years before street fighter x tekken was in development Ono was asked about Poison and he confirmed that they were trans, however made it known that she is pre-op in Japan and post-op in America (I don't know what Ono was smoking either). It's pretty much only ever capcom USA trying to change or make Poison's gender ambiguous, ie calling her just a crossdresser in that ps2 collection and a manager at capcom in a blog stating that her gender is meant to be ambiguous, but it's not though. Poison is trans and has been right from inception. I'm not criticising you for getting things wrong though, there is so much misinformation out there about Poison and I even own gaming magazines where the journalist peddle these exact (wrong) talking points

Some of the pro players who won tournaments hardly know the lore lol. I think its a testament to how engaging the gameplay is and how cool the characters are. Of course over time, these characters slowly evolved into what fans love about them thru small story details. What makes Street Fighter so amazing is the community. We have memes, fan art, and the competitive scene, who also have their own lore just like the characters.

@scotiaviiiАй бұрын
Hello there, I’m a HUGE Street Fighter 3 fanboy and I just wanted to clarify some things as to why you felt like its story ‘didn’t matter’ to the overall series, as there are a very specific amount of reasons as to why that’s the case. First off, it cannot be understated how much Capcom were unprepared for Street Fighter 2 to be the cultural phenomenon that it was when it released. This is reflected in a few areas, but mostly the story as almost every character ending (except for Ryu’s) shows every World Warrior (Dhalsim, Blanka etc) coming to terms with their reason for fighting and more or less hanging up their gloves to live their lives normally. In Bison’s case, he was never intended to be this big cataclysmic destroyer of worlds that he would eventually end up being, he was very much just a very powerful and very rich arms dealer who wanted world domination through his criminal reach and his defeat (or death in Super Turbo) at the end of SF2 was essentially his end as far as Capcom were concerned when making the game. Obviously, things changed when SF2 blew up and Capcom went all in on cashing in on SF2 hype, which culminated in them making the Alpha series which was a prequel to SF2 because, as I mentioned earlier, SF2’s endings had almost every fighter retire and move on and that wasn’t ideal given all of them were now icons. The Alpha series is also when they really expanded on Bison and made him more than just a cartel leader and arms trafficker. So now we get to Street Fighter 3 which I must stress was made by an entirely new team of developers who were relatively inexperienced in making fighting games. It’s also worth mentioning that the game was originally an entirely new franchise before it was eventually made into SF3. The direction of SF3 was to move beyond the events of SF2 and establish a new arc of the series, moving on from what SF2 had established and concluded. Thus the roster was made up entirely of new characters. The first SF3 was called New Generation to reflect that this was, indeed, a new generation of street fighters and a new start for the franchise, which is why a lot of the characters (bar Ryu and Ken) are completely new, the story is completely new and no one from SF2 or Alpha is there. Their stories were, essentially, done and it was time to move on to the next saga of the Street Fighter series. Unfortunately, New Generation was not a great game and among other issues was hated for its entirely new cast and sticking with what was at the time ‘old fashioned’ 2D sprites, when a lot of popular fighting games at the time were fully 3D. The arcades were also pretty much on their last legs at this point, so SF3 never really stood a chance. The game was (and likely still is) Capcom’s biggest flop and essentially put the series on ice for nearly 10 years. It’s not an exaggeration to say that SF3 nearly killed the series entirely. Jump forward 10 years to SF4’s release which reignited the series and brought it back to where it is today. The first thing SF4 did was completely remove itself from SF3. It was set before SF3 and just after SF2, retconned the finite endings from 2 which allowed everyone from 2 and Alpha to show up and only added the ‘normal’ SF3 characters after the game had already come out and been received well, preventing any link to 3 to potentially damage their attempt at revitalising the series. So now Capcom had another game that was a big hit that relied on SF2 and ignored SF3 to carry it. Jump to SF5 which was once again another prequel to SF3 but did more work in tying 3 to the rest of the series that 4 had pretty much retconned by undoing the finality of 2’s endings. 5 was a mixed bag overall as it didn’t rely on SF2 as heavily and was also released far too early and had lots of problems. Now we’re at SF6 and it’s finally moved past 3 in the timeline but almost nothing from it matters yet. Every World Warrior was available from the start and we’re not getting a single SF3 character added until nearly 2 years after its release. The story also rushed hard to bring back Bison and so far has shown no signs of continuing on from where SF3 left off. This was a lot I know but basically, the reason the SF3 games didn’t feel like they mattered is because Capcom have essentially worked hard to make sure they don’t matter. It was a colossal failure that Capcom are clearly still bothered by and they’ve shown no real interest in making sure the stories and characters from 3 are treated on the same level as the rest of the series. It’s a huge shame because SF3 was meant to be the start of a new arc for the series that got cut off at the heels before it really had a chance to go anywhere. Imagine if SF1 was the only Street Fighter game and you never saw anything else after it because it bombed, that’s pretty much what happened to SF3. Hopefully this helps clarify some things, love your videos and hope you take a look some day at the SF3 games such as the endings!

Oh hey guys, I'm really glad you're finally getting into the deep lore of the CAPCOM fighters (Street Fighter, Final Fight, as well as Rival Schools, and also Darkstalkers, Saturday Night Slam Master, etc). You were talking about SF as a TV show, there's actually this fan made series called Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, very well-produced, pretty nicely-written show, all available on KZbin. It covers Ryu and Ken's time as Gouken's students and shows a (kinda fanficcy but still kinda neat) origin story for Akuma. If you ever wonder how those guys are like in between all the street fighting, and shotoing, you're in for a nice treat.

As of Street Fighter 6, the M. Bison in the game is not the same M. Bison we've always known. He's one of the many vessels he used, an amnesiac man who has Psycho Power still within him and some of Bison's mannerisms due to the brainwashing that comes with being possessed. Also has a horse he deeply cares for called Rosinante (a Don Quixote reference) He doesn't even remember his name, but since everyone is calling him Bison, he takes the name for himself. He concludes that the real Bison is out there somewhere.

To add more info on SF3 and why it’s at the end of the timeline. Capcom was trying to go for “The Next Generation” type of feel. Like it would still be Street Fighter, but they wanted to see if they could pull off moving the games forward with a majorly new cast of characters. Suffice to say, because they were new characters that had no relation to any of the previous characters or even some of their move sets, not to mention that the “Dark Hadou” between Ryu, Ken, & Akuma, would be left alone in favor of an all new story. Older fans were understandably pissed that a lot of their favorite characters were missing and that a major plot point was not being touched on. Those factors led to SF3 being one of the most hated games of the series, but is now in a good place because of updated versions of SF3 brought back a lot of characters and shed some more light on Ryu and Akuma. Now the only semi-hated game I believe is SF5

For me personally, my list of favourite characters in the lore are a bit, well, weird when I tell people, but they are: -Sagat, mainly for his character progression, from seeking revenge on Ryu, to actually realising, via Dan Hibiki, that only having that as your drive is an empty goal to have. -Crimson Viper, for the twist of her actually being a GOOD guy, as well as a loving mother (and yes, a hot MILF, LOL) -Ed, for his relationship with Balrog (actually bringing out the best in Balrog to not JUST care about money), but also wanting to be "his own man" and not what other people have basically destined for him to be (something personal for me myself). -Necro, due to him being one of the first characters I picked up and played back in 1997 with Street Fighter 3, and actually liking his playstyle, but also for him and Effi being subjected to being test subjects but then escaping and forming their own path together.

Ok, after watching the whole thing... I can confidently say that he was *MUCH, MUCH BETTER* than I expected. He correctly included a bunch of stuff that people usually miss or misunderstand. And he managed to almost always avoid the pitfalls where most people fall and where I expected him to. So, for a casual who just recently decided to do a full immersion course... kudos. He did better than most. :) *HOWEVER.* He still made *A LOT* of mistakes in this video. And this is due to a few factors: 1) He asks people to provide their sources, but he rarely ever does so. 2) And when he does, it's semi-official website blurbs and bios that were filled by random Capcom employees 30 years after the fact, with no supervision and no help from those who actually worked on the games. Also, they contradict more relevant info and, often... they contradict each other as well. 3) He ignores the proper hierarchy of canonicity. Which is: games's dialogues / intros / endings / win quotes > gameplay > booklets provided with the games (that's what people's sources are, my friend... they actually had and played the game when it came out, they didn't get it from Google) > official Capcom encyclopedias > other official promotional media (like the four SF4 anime) > video interviews to Capcom employees > proper known Japanese gaming journalists and authors (they exist) that have "done their research" (real research, not Google) and among other things directly interviewed Capcom employees over the decades > the many webpages that get ignored, forgotten and redone every time a new game comes out, there's an anniversary or they just want to update their website. That last bottom one is the lowest acceptable source and at the same time it's where he got at least half of his info from. No other source is acceptable. 4) This might be the worst aspect of his work: *HE ONLY GOES BY THE ENGLISH DATA.* The Japanese material and English material are *WILDLY* different. Sometimes because Japanese to English translations are super bad (and they were even worse in the '80s), sometimes because Capcom US just didn't care. But Capcom is a Japanese company. So if what the English side says and what the Japanese side says don't agree with each other... you should *ALWAYS* go with the original Japanese. This leads to some of his wildest takes. 5) Sometimes he just parrots urban myths. Those are not an acceptable source. 6) He seems to be aware of the existence of retcons, but he also ignores them most of the times. FOLLOWS --->

Now, where to start? I don't have the strength to go over the whole video again to provide a complete list of all the incorrect info he gave, so I'll just pull by memory a non-exhaustive list, in random order: - *REE-OOH and CHAN-LI.* No. No no no. I'm sorry, I'm willing to be lenient, but that's just unacceptable. He should be capable of pronouncing the name of the protagonist. Heh... at least, he didn't say *RAH-YOU,* which is even worse. - Another thing you're expected to know: *ansatsuken* is *NOT* the name of the martial art school and/or style of Goutetsu and his pupils. Instead, "ansatsuken" is an umbrella term describing any martial art that is intended to kill. Like many other SF notions, it originates in _Hokuto no Ken / Fist of the North Star._ Hell, *Gen,* the rolling kung fu master who has zero moves in common with Akuma or Ken, uses not one, but two different "ansatsuken". That doesn't mean he studied under Goutetsu. Holy crap, that was a baaaaaaad start. FOLLOWS --->
@happyslapsgiving5421Ай бұрын
- The twelve "failed" Dolls were all underage teenagers (with the exception of Juli, who was a young adult), not grown women, back in the Alpha era. - Cammy sees all the Dolls as her sisters, and they *DID* grow up together. Therefore implying that her and Juni might be in a relationship is seriously messed up. - Cammy and Decapre are *NOT* twins. Not in the common sense, at least. All twelve prototype Dolls were girls kidnapped all around the world, as seen in many of their backstories. - Cammy is *NOT* genetically identical to Bison. Don't "whatever" Capcom, because that's not what Capcom is trying to sell you. Rather, "whatever" the English translations you follow so blindly. - Like Abel and Ed, Cammy was also born in a Shadaloo laboratory, and like them she too had an accelerated growth. We know for a fact that Decapre was older than she is and used to watch her when she was in her tube. - So what is the connection between Cammy, Bison and Decapre? Simple: Cammy is Bison and Decapre's daughter. Wait! No, it's still not what you think: *IN VITRO* daughter. She was created in a lab as a "clone" (a term used loosely in Japanese language and media, something that he missed) that has the genetics of one of the failed Dolls *PLUS* some of Bison's genetic material. That's why she looks exactly like Decapre, and that's why Bison says she has his genes. - Cammy was *NEVER* Bison's lover and this was *NEVER* retconned. This is probably his biggest blunder, because every SF fan worth their salt know this. Cammy's storyline was the current one *SINCE THE BEGINNING.* The "lover" thing? Came from, you guessed it, a bad US translation (perpetuated by urban myths). However, in this case, it was less a case of mistaken translation and more of a case (a frequent case, as someone working in the dubbing business will tell you) of the English side *MAKING UP SHIT ENTIRELY* that doesn't even resemble the initial text. Bison tells Cammy that she's his "clone" in that conversation, in the original Japanese game. He does *NOT* tell her that they were lovers. That *NEVER HAPPENED,* isn't canon and *WAS NEVER CANON.* FOLLOWS --->

- Guile and Ken are brothers-in-law. They're not step-brothers. This mistake was probably due to just a distraction, but still... *RELATIVES DON'T WORK LIKE THAT.* :P - A lot of characters are missing... Lucia Morgan, Eleven, Ingrid (although her canonical status is debated)... and even Luke, whom he mentions at the end in relation to SF6, but ignores that he was in SF5. I'm sure there's more. - A lot of personal storylines are missing (Vega's comes to mind), a lot of story ties and connection between characters are missing, and when he says "these characters don't have any connection with any of the others" is invariably very wrong. He also contradicts himself with E. Honda who doesn't have SF friends first and Hakan who is friends with E. Honda later (wrong the first time, correct the second time). - This part was possibly inaccurate and incomplete for fear of getting canceled. Poison and Roxy were originally women, when the Japanese game was released in 1989. CIS women. Born female. Nothing to write home about. Then in 1991, *two years later,* when the game was imported to the US, Capcom USA told Capcom Japan that it was unacceptable for the American sensibility of the time to have big muscular men beat on women. So, "naturally", Capcom Japan replied by saying: "ok, so then make them new-halves (trans women)... it's totally acceptable to beat up trans women, right?" Capcom USA _agreed_ to that. Yes, I know, they're both messed up. So in the west Poison and Roxy were to be known as trans... but in Japan they kept being CIS women, because Capcom Japan doesn't change their canon every time their cousins across the pond decide to put their own spin on the product. And Capcom Japan canon will always have the priority over everything else. Only many years later, in full internet era, the extremist wars started and the apparent discordant information regarding Poison (and Roxy) led to people from both sides "strongly wanting" for Poison to be one or the other. There were even provocatory interviews that reworded the situation saying that Poison was trans in both versions, but post-op in Japan and pre-op in the US (just to add fuel to the fire). In the end, Capcom decided to stop trying to favor either group of extremists (and to stop trolling), so they washed their hands of it and officially retconned Poison into being "whatever you want her to be". That is, to this day, her official status. She is whatever you want her to be. FOLLOWS --->

- Sure, cameos and crossovers exist. But the only Capcom franchises that are confirmed to share an universe with *Street Fighter* are *Saturday Night Slam Masters (Muscle Bomber), Final Fight* and the relatively recently confirmed *Rival Schools* (whose canonicity was in doubt for two decades). The other "street level martial arts" franchises of Capcom. That's it. No Marvel, no Tatsunoko, no Tekken, no SNK, and no other Capcom franchise, either... whether it's set in the present or the future (this extends to the crossover games, too). It is implied that the Strider franchise _might_ be in the future of the Street Fighter universe, but it's not confirmed. The others just aren't. - To expand on that: no, the Darkstalkers are *NOT* canon in the Street Fighter world and saying that they're "hiding their presence from the world" is *extremely incorrect.* First: Darkstalkers live in their own separate dimension. Second: only a few Darkstalkers visit the human world. Third: that human world, the Darkstalkers version of the human world, is *NOTHING* like the SF world, for culture, history or technology level, and it's possible that they might visit it at different points in time. Fourth: in the Darkstalkers human world... the existence of Darkstalkers is *VERY WELL KNOWN, VERY FEARED AND NOT HIDDEN AT ALL.* Needless to say, they never showed up in the Street Fighter world. - Ken's yacht birthday party is a *COSTUME* party. Characters from the most disparate Capcom franchises make cameo appearances there... say it with me... *AS COSTUMES.* FOLLOWS --->

- Capcom was never afraid of associating with Mike Tyson because he was "controversial". They were afraid to be sued by Tyson himself for the rights to his name and image. That's why they suddenly decided that Mike and M(ike) Bison were not the same person any longer (despite them both being portraits of Tyson), and they told the west that the names of the kings were swapped around for good measure (but they didn't do it in Japan). - He downplayed the similarities between G and Q, and completely failed to present what makes Q significant (and one of the most interesting characters in the franchise). So... G and Q have *THE SAME MOVESET.* No, really... Q has the same moves G has... if G had forgotten how humans move. For example: sometimes Q throws the same kick G used to do, but then falls to the ground because he/it forgot to keep the other foot on the ground to support him/itself. He/it's weird like that. And that's the most we know about him: from G. In fact, Q is a 100% mystery: he/it's always present in the background when important events happen (as pointed out by the FBI investigation), he/it might be a human or a robot and there is no conclusive answer to that question (up to and including moves that work like "X-ray scans", and in game sometimes show the skeleton of opponents that suffer it, but they don't show Q's insides), he/it doesn't talk but rather expresses him/itself in grunts and hums, and some neck skin _might_ be visible under his/its mask but it's not even 100% definitive that it's skin what he/it's showing. - Bison was *NOT* Rose's master. Clement fell, once again, for a mistranslation in the English version of one of the endings, later reported as an urban myths by redditors all over. In fact, I caught the exact same Reddit post where Clement got this idea from. He cleared one Rose/Bison misconception, but perpetuated another. ^_^' - Bison *KILLED* Rose's master. This is confirmed both in that same ending above and many other storyline moments in multiple games. - Rose is a Rom / Sinti / gypsy who lives in Genoa, Italy. FOLLOWS --->

I gotta say, these Lore Videos are very impressive and well, now i hope he does Guilty Gear too at some point, Also, i wonder if he’ll ever dare to do BlazBlue Lore at some point, that one’s a doozy. Say, which ones do you think could be considered as the Main Trio of Street Fighter? I guess some would think of Ryu, Ken & Chun-Li as the Main Trio of this Franchise, but could they really be considered as the Official Main Trio, if there is one? Especially with the Canon Lore in consideration?

Personally I think a big part of why TV /stream series are better for game story in terms of viewing is it feels less of a risk as a viewer you can check it out if it's bad no big deal watch something else where as a film you are sacrificing time and money at the same time and if it turns out to be bad you can come off feeling robbed I know you probably have a list a mile long of vid recommendations but I would like to add another one to consider it would need to be broken up like this one as its 6 hours long but would love to see your reaction to the complete unabriged timeline of nier from eruptionfang

Since Ken is of particular interest here, the video did not mention that Ken is half japanese, and his hair is naturally black like his eyebrows. He dyes his hair blonde for reasons. Also, Ken's wife and Guile's wife are sisters. So they're related-ish.

About Beth's comment on Cammy at the end. Yeah no, I dont blame her at all. Female characters are historically oversexualized even in fighting games, and often sidelined (though its not so bad in Street Fighter compared to most media, so the ladies have a few wins here) to boot, made to be little more than fanservice. Then you get games like Street Fighter where even if you can argue they need some touch-ups to their design to be less goon bait, they're still great and interesting individuals. Juri is pretty much THE fanservice psycho girl and she's got one of the most interesting journeys in the series for example. Thankfully, Cammy doesnt disappoint in that regard either, and her new design is SUCH an improvement in terms of detail and overall style.

Improvement? Is a downgrade, her Delta Red costume is way better
@ramenbomberdeluxe4958Ай бұрын
@@CYB3R2K Her delta red costume was nowhere near as cool as the ones worn by her comrades and was an open-rear fanservice mess. It could have used more bells and whistles for goodness sake.
