Nobody talks about the fact that when Dr. J joined the NBA his scoring went down because he was playing with guys who loved to shoot and then when they were gone his scoring went way up without losing efficiency.

I think he's basing it on just his nba career; not aba

@@4392amtrakhe was at his peak here in this season as well. The Major issue (as far as an NBA drop off) was playing alongside people like McGinnis and especially Free. Guys who liked to hog the ball and dribble incessantly. Once they were dealt, he picked his game back again some.
@Amick442 ай бұрын
He was also at his peak in this year that is featured. His main problem was joining Philly, was having to play with ball hogs like Free and McGinnis. After a couple of years, they were gone and he got to open his game back up

Hell yes he deserved to win the MVP. This was a slick video degrading Dr.J on the sly. Put the 76ers record up against the Celtics and Doc's stats up against Larry's. As someone made in an earlier comment Doc should have also won the MVP award in 1980. But his ABA years were better than 1981's NBA season. When he came to the 76ers they asked him to slow down his dominance to help the team. What other player have you heard, do that except Dwayne Wade for Lebron. Doc did it for everyone; McGinnis, Collins, Free, Dawkins, Caldwell Jones, Free, Jellybeanb Bryant and Steve Mix.

Doc should've been the 1982 MVP also. Some people thought he shouldve won in 1980

You could say the same thing about Larry Bird. He should’ve been MVP all of those years. Bird definitely should’ve won 81 Dr. J himself once said that bird could’ve won six MVPs in a row which he very well could have. He won the three but bird really was the best player in basketball from 81 through 87. He was the best player in the leagueby a long shot.
@mongoslade2774 күн бұрын
@BruceWayne-ri4wr Agreed that Bird was the best player in the league from 1981-87. That doesn't necessarily mean he should've been the MVP 6 straight seasons. If the best player in the league meant the MVP, then Michael Jordan would have 11 or 12 MVP awards

ABA Doc from 1974 to 1976 was terrific. NBA Doc from 1980 to 1983 was also excellent. Erving should have won the NBA MVP in 1980 instead of Kareem to he honest because the Lakers were a much more talented team. This video points out just how impactful Julius Erving was on the defensive end. After 1984 Doc was not the same player. His knees were shot.

Kareem deserved the MVP in 1980 and probably deserved it in 1981. Erving won it out of voter fatigue mainly. Abdul-Jabbar dominated on both ends of the court. Their battle in the 1980 finals was epic but again Kareem was a monster in that series for the 5 games he played.
@braddurian2 ай бұрын
@@the_Sage71 No disrespect to Kareem at all. He was tearing it up in the 1980 NBA Finals. My point is that he had way more to work with in Magic, Wilkes etc. Dr. J had to do it mostly by himself. Darryl Dawkins was a walking talking personal foul. Cheeks was good but no scorer. Same with Bobby Jones. Hollins and Caldwell Jones were non factors in games. It largely fell on Doc night after night for Philly to win and in that sense Erving was league MVP both years.

I was glad to have watched some of the best TV moments of Dr. J's career. I watched quite a few games in which Dr. J made Larry Bird have ok shooting moments. Dr. J's defense was a lot better than fans assume. Dr. J at times during the playoffs also gave Bird more than he could handle on defense late in those iconic playoff games from 1980-thur-1982. The Celtics only solved Dr. J in the critical game 5 of the 1981 ECF's when a bigger and longer armed Kevin McHale defended Dr. J late in the game towards the end of the 3rd quarter which basically changed the complexion of that series in favor of Boston with the Sixers up 3-1.

I was going to say the same thing I wasn't I was maybe only five but I know for sure that cornbread was doing most of the guarding on Julius and you stated Mchale people always try to act like they went head-to-head him and Bird which is not the case
