I built my racing simulator from scratch and I did not use the "most expensive" parts and it still cost me $3,200 USD. Wheel and pedals $420. Seat $200. 3 panel monitor stand $300. 3 monitors $730. Computer (bought parts) $1,000. Misc - Frame plans, frame material, keyboard, headset w/microphone, power strip, cables, iRacing fee $550. No way that is a 1,000 pound rig.

I don't know why they wouldn't use simulators like this to teach people the basics who are learning to drive for the first time. Especially if ur wanting to learn how to drive a manual.

They do. Where I'm from, there are private driving schools that do that. For the first 3 hours, they give you a sim class, but it's only on the first day induction class, just to teach you the basics. However, the displays aren't this good; there's just one low-quality 24-inch LED display, along with tablet-sized mini displays for the rearview mirrors.

I tested high end simulators and in no world I'd recommend it for learning how to drive a manual. You'll end up with a shitload of bad habits. There is currently no sim that rightfully depict shifting, in most sim you can't even stall. So you'll end up with the habit of brutally remove your feet from the pedal, you'll never even know what is synchronizing or rev matching is and goodbye your clutch and synchros within 2 years. You'll be able to operate it, yes, but in a very damaging way. Better learn how to drive a manual with a manual car in an empty parking lot, and then enjoy simracing manuals while not minding the differences with reality.

it doesnt cost even close to that. Just the chassis in this video costs more then that, the 3 monitor stand is 750 and the seat is a 100. Thats more then double what he says and you still have to spend money on a wheel, peddles etc. this is still very expensive. To have this rig fully build (without pc) you'd be at more then 3000 and thats on the low side. with pc breaking you'd be at 4500 maybe

Sure it's 1000 bucks for the seat. You can get 300 dollar seats. Lets really think about it. The whole thing costs probably closer to 5k pounds minimum with PC, Monitors, Wheel etc... and that doesn't include the spare wheels. Not saying it isn't worth what he paid, but 1000 bucks for a sim should be price including wheel, pedals, shifter etc... Which you can absolutely do. in fact, it's possible to have everything you need besides PC and monitor for under 500. If you do a quest headset, instead of 3 monitors, you can spend 800-1200 bucks for a decent rig you'll have fun in. with good computer you're looking at around 2500-3500 dollars depending on how extreme you want your pc to be.
