I've been to over 3000 gigs. I've been crushed, cut, bashed, stomped on, head-butted, electrocuted, hit with all manner of objects both accidental and deliberate, fallen over, been pushed over, had my hair pulled out, broken a few bones, and even been carted off in an ambulance once. All of those things happened at completely different times at different shows. I could have saved a lot of trouble by just going to a Hanatarash gig and experienced all of it in one night. Imagine being chased around by an excavator whilst dodging sheets of glass being thrown at you, and then the building you're in gets demolished and falls down around you, but not before the molotov cocktails come out. Man, I thought my stories were good. I'm just a hopeless rookie compared to these guys.

@@gleeart I saw a band once where the female drummer stood up on the stool, pulled her pants down and pissed all over the drum kit. It went on for quite a while too, the poor girl must have been busting, lol. Seen a couple of dudes whip it out and take a piss on stage, one of 'em was hung like a horse, I thought it was fake until he started pissing and waving it around. Also saw a front man shove his fingers down his throat and puked all over the audience. It was lime green - it looked like he'd been drinking glowsticks. The usual compliment of tits and bums of course. Probably the best known would be Zia McCabe from the Dandy Warhols, she played half the show topless. That was a really good show actually, they played really tight that night. Never seen anyone drop a turd. I can't say I'm disappointed about that though. That's one milestone I'm happy to miss.

Thanks for posting this. As an old-timer & one of Baltimore's few "Hardcore" Punkers in the early-mid 80's I am surprised I have never heard of Hanatarash. After watching the video I understand why. I don't know the guys in the band, & haven't heard any of their recordings, but I am familiar with NYC/USA's music scene. In the mid-80's hardcore evolved (or devolved) into a number of specific supbgenres: hardcore, straight edge, thrash (aka speed metal or skate punk), & noise art to name a few. This music & the bands that created it were extremely difficult to uncover & follow. Since MTV was just getting started & mainstream radio was a slave to their advertisers, the new unsigned "alternative or punk" bands relied on: word of mouth (plus the distribution of cassette mix-tapes), college & university radio stations (They were self-funded, & had no adverts. This allowed them to play what they wanted, not what sold adverts. Most of them had a weekly, 1 to 3 hour, "Punk Rock Program." Those were taped on cassette, highly prized, & traded at live concerts. ), occasional live shows (the only music festival, forgetting the original Woodstock, was the US Festival & showcased big name rock & roll bands. Live/Band/Farm-Aid hadn't happened yet, much less Lollapalooza & the Vans Warped Tours.), and a very small "Import/punk" section in record stores. Some of us would write the label (SST, Alternative Tentacles, & Rough Trade in the UK) and asked for a catalog. We figured the other bands on that label might be similar to the one we knew & liked. We didn't know most labels were owned by a band member & only existed to put that band's music out. SST/Alternative Tentacles/Factory?Rough Trade were the exception not the rule. Thanks to the internet, & content creators like yourself, anyone can listen to any band they want to. Plus, the artists have a platform to promote their creations. Hanatarash is radically different from the Noise Art I subjected myself to in NYC. Those shows usually drew a crowd of 30-50 people that simply stood & watched the performance. Unlike the hardcore shows I attended, there was no stage diving, crowd surfing, or slam dancing. I got the sense the audience felt too sophisticated, or cool, to just cut loose & dance. They were certainly older than the punk rockers in Baltimore. We were mostly high school students. John Zorn, Golden Palominos, Skeleton Crew were a few shows I recall seeing. Flipper, Butthole Surfers, & Sonic Youth were the only bands I remember that tried blending the Punk rock attitude & "noise art" into their music. There were many bands who sang about destruction, or tried to incite the crowd into destructive behavior, in the punk scene. But these 2 guys didn't sing about it, they actually went out and did it. It's not surprising they couldn't book a venue, after they destroyed one. Hats off to you for finding these guys, listening to their 3 albums, & posting content on them !!! I think about what we listened to & did back in those days & I feel sorry for the teenagers of today that don't have an outlet for their discontent. I suggest we bring back those glory days of punk rock. If teens could go to a show & slam dance, they might not feel compelled to take an assault rifle to school on "Show & Tell" day.
@teklife2 жыл бұрын
the teenagers of today DO have an outlet for their discontent; it's called guns, and they go out and do mass shootings. i wonder how this generation will look back on itself with nostalgia, or what will the coming generations do that the current generations will find shocking and repulsive.
@johnspence97182 жыл бұрын
@@teklife Interesting response, brother. Mass shootings by 12-25 year old people are certainly on the rise. Since the guns have always been available, and bullying is nothing new either, I wonder what is causing the increase. Some blame the guns, others the bullies. I prefer to blame the parents of the children/young adults coupled with internet & social media. I've noticed some youngsters create a fantasy, utopic life online. When this gets exposed they feel their actual life has ended, when it is only a persona created for social media. I'd love to chat more about this issue, but this isn't the space to do so. I also wonder as do you, what these current teens will miss during their golden years, like you. Shocking & repulsive, who knows buddy. I guess that's up to each individual to determine. I doubt I'll be here to find out though. Thanks for the reply bro.

I hope it never happens. Destruction and chaos for the sake of clout is embarrassing. It is only notable for Hanatarash because they did it first and long ago.

On a dark note, it's crazy how Hanatarash went out of their way to endanger their fans and didn't seriously hurt or kill anyone, yet one The Who concert, a concert in which the band had no intention of putting their fans in a dangerous situation, resulted in the deaths of eleven fans in a crush.

ive just come to this channel not long ago, but a topic i think you would cover John Cage really well, hes most known for his piece of music 4'33" where he comes out on stage, sits down for a few mins and then just leaves without saying anything. my music teacher spoke fondly of this man, and his view on sound is cool. i think it would make a pretty interesting video.

I love how being a destructive threat to innocent people and being as loud and desperately attention seeking as possible is seen as "artistic" and something worthy of praise and respect.

@kobrakommandar83702 жыл бұрын
Saw them in late 80s in a driving rainstorm in the Shea stadium parking lot. Definitely the most dangerous and oppressive "performance artists" ever. Got banned from every venue they performed. Robot machines of death ripping apart dead chickens and flinging them at the artist. Beyond Throbbing Gristle levels of shear noize. But then I did see Einstürzende Neubauten chainsaw a stage and then set it on fire so definitely was a good on the group. Also with Boredoms in early 90s so got to know Ai and Pee Wee (who also formed UFO or Die together then, played with Thurston Moore and others in the NYC scene back then). Fun stuff!
