Note- Even though I’ve played Skylanders swap force hundreds of times, I haven’t played any other Skylanders games and I’ve only watched the cutscenes movie of giants and the odd video on the lore, so please go easy on me if I messed something up.

Back when the games were still coming out, there's nothing I loved more than reading the wiki for all that sweet character lore. I forgot how intricate they were. This video was great, I hope there'll be a part 2.

to be perfectly honest even the wiki often misses some pretty neat parts of the lore, it's pretty convoluted but it's still pretty great (for instance in the lore Wham-Shell's father is an actually named character by the name of Good King/Clam King Roland, with his own bio relating to the Crustacean/Clam Kingdom)

You think that's weird? Have you heard of Gill Grunt's backstory? He was a war veteran who fell on love with a mermaid and promised to marry her when the war was over, but then some pirates kidnapped her and he spend a long time trying to look for her and then the skylanders hired him and he's still looking for the mermaid. He protect, he attack, but most importantly, she never coming back.😢

@@arturomontemayor5781 I was not expecting a Iran joke. But if grill grunt was at war at some point in his life would the skylanders be involved. So a) it was a war/revolution that kaos started. Or b the skylanders what’re to stay neutral in the war and before say the skylanders live for peace when joining a side would only make things worse. Unless it was kaos or some evil being doing something.

Sonic Boom is hilariously tragic, and I'm probably the first person to say that and _not_ be talking about that one Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff game on the Wii U.

For those who are wondering, Sonic Boom took refuge at a mountain peak in the far reaches of Skylands, to keep her griffin hatchlings safe. However, a devious wizard tracked her down and placed a curse on her eggs. Once hatched, the hatchlings are only allowed to live for a few moments until they magically return to their eggs... only to be hatched again in an endless cycle. Wanting to prevent such evil from happening to others, Sonic Boom joined the Skylanders and has trained her hatchlings to defend Skylands each time they are hatched.

Skylanders worldbuilding is so criminally overlooked. I always loved reading the backstories and discovering all the magical lands, bizzare races and stories of their heroes. Truly a hidden gem.

Fun fact Boom Bloom is a mutant plant because she was made by Dr.Krankcase because he tested his weird goo and on dead plants and living plants but those living plant resist Dr.krankcase and one of those was Boom Bloom

Actually, it turns out starstrike isn't the only Skylander that didn't originate from Skylands (aside from cossover characters). Starcast is stated to have also come from beyond the stars as a result of a wish, however no one knows if it was from either, eon who wished for a new ninja sensei to help with teaching or pop fizz who wanted to get out anger management class, and while no one can confirm where he came from (not even starcast himself) given both their similar design and name scheme it's quite possible that starstrike and starcast come from the same planet if not the same galaxy.

9:44 Dino-Rang, Flashwing, Enigma and Starcast also originate from outside of Skylands iIrc. Blackout and Spotlight may or may not be from Skylands too, same with Hood Sickle. Also, I think Astroblast's backstory is worthy of a mention: "While on a secret mission in troll territory, Astroblast crash landed on a remote island where he stumbled upon an ancient relic not seen in thousands of years - a legendary Rift Engine. These magical machines were believed to have the power to travel through the portals between Skylands and other worlds! Shortly after the discovery, an army of trolls appeared on a nearby canyon ridge and quickly charged toward Astroblast. Knowing that the Rift Engine would be very dangerous in the wrong hands, he pulled out his pulse laser and prepared to defend the relic against the incoming horde. After an epic shootout, the trolls fled in defeat. When Astroblast then brought the relic back to his ship, the Sun Runner, it surged with power and a hologram of Master Eon appeared. Eon thanked him for saving the Rift Engine and beckoned him to return it to the Skylander Academy. Astroblast accepted the invitation and was made a Skylander shortly thereafter."

There’s a lot of Skylander backstory ‘tings that exist. Star Strike wasn’t the only non-Skylands Skylander. Voodood, Dino Rang, and Enigma also come from other places. As well, Smolderdash actually has an alternate backstory thanks to the Lost Islands. Not really lore relevant, but one of the few Skylanders to have two completely different ones.

9:46 actually there is another Skylander who isn't a crossover character that doesn't originate from Skylands, that being the Magic Trap Master, Enigma! His bios states that he comes from "a nameless place between the worlds" before he was then summoned to Skylands by a Mabu Mystic.

Wow, great video! I remember years ago (over a decade now, holy moly) when new skylanders games were released and the skylanders website had their backstories for us to read and enjoy, and this video really brought those memories back! Oh and a side note about Star Strike, there is another skylander from outer space just like her and is actually the same species, the Dark element sensei Star Cast!

Recently bought a used Wii U (due to my own being broken) and decided to replay the skylander games and it’s really a amazing and nice thing to experience. currently doing giants now, so soon onto swapforce. I think it explained that Blackout, Spotlight, Knightmare and Light knight we're during the First Game in the Skylands but were Shot somewhere Else so they couldn't be found until Trap Team

I really love this series however one thing i would have loved to see is a couple of secrets to see, if you used Skylanders whose lore is connected to places you visit and such. My number 1 example for this is how the Arkeyans are "introduced" as a lost civilisation whose remainders you seek to find yet at the same time there's the Skylander Chop Chop who is an actual Arkeyan. Other characters may have other connections to this world but it is never adressed in the game. It would have been awesome if - going back to the example - there would be some reference (e.g. the ancient weapon master recognizing Chop Chop as an Arkeyan) or some alternative level paths (e.g. Chop Chop knows a path through the Arkeyan city that others don't). I understand that this would have probably been pretty difficult and tedious to implement but it would made the games even more immersive and intice players to go on a treasure hunt for these little story bits of their characters.

Ghost Roaster's story is interesting(wish he had a better name). He started out as a (not-ghoul being) chef in the mountains but slipped down the mountainside and "fell into the Valley of the Undead" when trying to catch a sheep for his stew. Which, to me, sounds like a child-friendly way of saying he fell to his death. I recommend giving it a look to find out more.

You mentioned Star Strike being one of the few Skylanders who didn't originate from Skylands. Others include Flashwing, who was brought to Skylands by a wish from Bash, and Master Starcast, who was brought to Skylands by a wish from Eon (or Pop Fizz, depending on who you ask).

Even if you dont read their lore aloud, i think you should read the lore/flavor text belonging to Spyro and Dark Spyro. Because they are different. Every other skylander has the same text as their variants part, except for those two. (And also because spyro is spyro, from the spyro games) You may also find Whirlwind and Sunburn interesting.

Actually, 🤓, I think the "first" skylander was probably either one of the ancient elementals from Swap Force, OR one of the Dark/Light elemental skylanders. But then again you could also be right about it being a giant.
