The Vervet Forest is a wildlife rehab series focused on Vervet Monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation. The series showcases the process of taking orphaned and injured vervet monkeys through a foster mother program which helps these rescued orphan baby monkeys to be adopted by foster mother monkeys. The show is for fans of the animal planet, nat geo, discovery and anyone who is an animal lover, loves animals and would like to be part of helping them get back to the wild.

So excited for Mini Max, Yolanda, & Eamon. ( I re-watched Mini- Max's baby videos and he's growing into a big, healthy boy🥰) I feel bad for Meggie that she has not been able to join the troop with her friends due to the thrush in her mouth ☹️. ***Curious if the monkeys can have yogurt due to their stomach flora??? If so, I know tumeric, coconut, and yogurt are all great things to help soothe sore skin with thrush or yeast. We give tumeric in coconut "yogurt" to our dogs in Spring, Summer, & Early Fall to prevent yeast as they are retrievers and are sometimes in questionable bodies of water. Ughhh***

All the intros I've seen have been so successful, which is a blessing. I'm wondering how you choose which troop a monkey should go to. And, as in the case of Meggy, once they've been released but need further human care, you get the baby monkey away from its mum and back into the intro cage.

These babies are so adorable. Have you all tried nutracal for animals for these babies? This helps with sick animals. I know it works on ferrets and dogs and cats so I would believe it would work for these babies as well. It is worth looking into for health and weight gain and nutrition needs. I have used it several times for different animals for many different reasons. Look into it. It may be something worth checking out and they all love the taste. It is kinda like a paste. Never had a problem giving it to any of our different animal babies. Good luck and thank you for all you do. I WISH I was not so far away and so old, at 71 but I am a member and wish I could do so much more. Love your dedication.

I’m curious about Meggy , Maggie , Meggie developing thrush in the “wild” ? I think of human babies *and* adults getting it due to too much sugar , antibiotics , prolonged stress , lowered immune and likely other reasons that I have no clue about , and assumed that , away from those things , that they wouldn’t get it. And now I’m wondering , if they get it without humans over-seeing their well-being and it goes unchecked , what ultimately happens ? - no need to answer my question here, I’ll Google it - but what a nasty affliction for a little monkey with the pain of it , especially when eating , ensuring weight loss , a failure to thrive and an overall bummer for a little guy . Not to mention it spreading to mom and the rest of the babies/troop.

I’m sick of Cambodia and those horrible mean people that dress those poor sweet monkeys like village clowns and starve them and disappline them like they did something wrong! They feed them awful food, tons of candy and they steal them from their mothers! On night I saw a guy beat one to death with his fist in the head 25x or more! My understanding is that when monkeys are traumatized and depressed they curl up into a fetal position. Soca didn't do anything inappropriate. The reason you don't want so see this is because it expresses depression. The caretaker tried to cheer Soca up and get her out of the bad mood. If I'm wrong I hope the VMF will correct me.
@151riley
@151riley 2 жыл бұрын
@@azilgaard The VMF never deny the reality of the monkeys’ depression or “cheer them out of it” which doesn’t work on monkeys any more than on humans. I think that’s what makes these videos so comforting to watch. Also Soca is male.

@@azilgaard Actually, *I*--not a VMF staffer, but someone who has spent the last two years in quarantine watching these films--know these episodes intimately, and I can tell you that Liz Heywood (above) is completely correct. If you have watched every one of these programs--starting right from the beginning--you will hear this subject--depression--forthrightly addressed. There is no attempt to make light of an orphaned baby's distress--even death--when the baby loses the will to live. Consider the plight of little Gimli when he arrived: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH`y-C9HTbwY&t=426s That and later episodes show us little Gimli and the heroic effort the VMF team made to pull him back from the brink. And--miraculously--they succeeded. And no, not all depressed babies curl up into a ball. That is a stereotype. Monkeys--and plenty of humans, too--may "turn their face to the wall" and they are gone.

If you are thinking about purchasing any type of primate (ape, monkey, lemur, marmoset, etc.) as a pet, we hope that you will take into consideration the following reasons that primates of any kind make terrible pets and choose not to contribute to the primate pet trade. 1. Monkeys are ripped from their mother’s arms as babies (at just a few days old) to be sold to humans as pets. Not only is this extremely traumatic for the baby, but also to the mother who will be bred again and again, only to suffer the same fate for each pregnancy. 2. Primates are expensive to purchase and care for. They have very specific diet, enrichment, and housing needs that are expensive and will take up most of your time. Many captive primates develop diabetes, which is also difficult and costly to treat, if you can even find a veterinarian who will treat a monkey. 3. As babies they are adorable and sweet, but once they hit puberty (around age 3) their demeanor will completely change. They will become unpredictable, aggressive, unmanageable, and dangerous, often biting and scratching even their most favored caregiver. No amount of training will tame a wild animal or keep them from asserting their dominance. Monkeys can live to be 20-40 years old, which is a long time to care for an aggressive, biting animal. 4. They will destroy your home and make it stink! Throwing feces and urine, “poop painting” on the walls, and urinating everywhere are typical monkey behaviors in a human home. You may think that diapers are the answer, but even if a monkey would agree to wear one, they often cause painful sores and rashes, and they restrict the tail muscles from developing normally causing physical damage to the primate. (Life at the sanctuary allows these animals the freedom to express these species-specific behaviors, without forcing them into difficult, hands-on situations. We are able to feed, clean, and enrich all primate areas without direct contact with any primate) 5. Hierarchy! Primates naturally want to be the one in charge in a group, or at least be second in command. This means that generally a primate will bond with one person who they think is in charge, and then perceive everyone else as the enemy. They will attack humans with vicious bites and scratches to maintain their status in the group. This means ultimately you will be left alone with your monkey, cut off from normal social interactions with your family and friends, and unable to enjoy time away from your home or to take family vacations. 6. Monkeys can carry parasites and zoonotic diseases that are dangerous to humans. They may seem to be in perfect health, but when they inevitably bite or scratch you, you may end up with a variety of health issues passed to you from your monkey that were dormant in the monkey’s system. 7. Primates are social animals who need to be around their own kind in order to develop normally, both psychologically and emotionally. Humans are no substitute for a real monkey mom’s care. No matter how hard you try to give them a good life, you will still cause psychological damage to your beloved monkey. Period. 8. Primate ownership is illegal in many states. You may be able to buy a monkey in one state then try to bring it into your state only to find that you have violated a state regulation and must forfeit your monkey and pay a hefty fine. Check your state’s regulations on exotic pet ownership. 9. Purchasing a monkey fuels the exotic pet trade. It encourages primate breeders to continue the vicious cycle, and poachers to continue to kill adult primates so they can take their babies to sell. Don’t contribute to this sad, abusive supply and demand trend. 10. You may think a sanctuary is your fallback plan if your monkey gets aggressive, however space is extremely limited and there is not always room or funds available for your primate to be taken in. Many primate pets end up living in a small cage with no way to safely clean or enrich them because pet owners are unable to secure sanctuary placement for their pets and they are afraid of being injured.

Maybe there needs to be a way to keep each baby on their own bottle so they won't pass the thrush

Ok I'm sorry, I love you guys, but so many of the women on these videos talk like they're afraid to speak. Like the sea witch took their voice. Let's see who can be the most breathy, airy, gentle most quiet speaker! Women.... SPEAK UP!! PLEASE!!! Geez... It's not cute to talk like a scared child. Use your voice. You see the men around you aren't hard to hear aren't afraid to speak up. Follow that lead. Speak woman! Ok that's all lol
