For those who might not be able to quite put their finger on it, Zangief looks different because they've added proper body fat to him. Prior to this, his level of muscle tone was usually more like a bodybuilder's, where it's so extreme and sharp because they're going for muscle definition instead of actual functionality. This comes at the cost of sacrificing all the fat that typically surrounds and -- importantly -- supplies the muscle. The way Gief looks now is the way people look who are not just strong, but use that strength every day. It's the kind of muscle-under-fat that shows true strength, and also the ability to sustain using that strength. And it looks SO GOOD, because now when he flexes, you can actually see that muscle bulge up from under the fat like it does for real people. So when he puts in the pressure, he looks EVEN STRONGER than he ever did before.
