After having a while to think about the crash and calm down. A) If Hamilton made a clean move and went on to win the race. Well done. It was a great battle and he came out on top. B) If Hamilton won after taking out Verstappen, it sucks but oh well. It can happen in motorsport. The fact that Mercedes and Hamilton celebrated the win like that pretending nothing happened after putting Max in the hospital is what really ticks me off.
@mattdsoares3 жыл бұрын
They didn't "put Max in the hospital". He went there for a precautionary CT scan which is standard after a likely concussion. He got the scan, had it reviewed and left. No one was "put in hospital", which applies he was checked in as an inpatient. Romain Grosjean was put in hospital. Nikki Lauda was put in hospital. Max went to the hospital because that's there you get a bog standard CT scan.
@lauriedepaurie3 жыл бұрын
The fact that Hamilton refuses to own up for his mistake, took stabs at Max while he was still in hospital, celebrates as intense as he did and Mercedes hinting at the championship in their celebration... This combined with Toto's comment about 'one DNF from Max', just doesn't sit right. Together with a penalty that doesn't hurt a bit sets a precedent that kicking opponents off like this is a tactic that pays off. To quote Albon in 2020 'he's such a sore loser'. If you are proud of a win like this, if you actually try to push the blame to Max...you're not a champion. Apparently you can only win after eliminating your only opponent. You didn't win in spite of the incident, you won because of the incident
@lauriedepaurie3 жыл бұрын
@Bomboy Fred it was not inevitable. Lewis had 1.5 car's width and missed his apex. If anything, Lewis should and could have easily backed out. Which is why he got the damn penalty! Lewis overestimated his abilities and decided to take an inside line which is impossible to make at that speed with another driver alongside, look at the exit, doesn't matter where Verstappen would have been, Lewis would definately have bumped into him. Sure, Max has a reputation, but that doesn't change the fact that Lewis understeered into him. Sure, mistakes can happen, wheel to wheel. Which is why Lewis needs to admit he should've backed out. The fact that Lewis and his fans keep defending this move, even though this move (also when Max did it) is consistently punished, even though it is clear Hamilton understeered and missed his apex. That is worrying to me. You can hate a guy all you want, look at the situation objectively. Max was in front, left 1.5 car's width, kept his line. Lewis had the inside, was behind him, understeered, missed the apex and sent his main opponent into the tyres. The fact they punished him in a first lap (where they are less strict) says enough. But sure, let's look at current licence points and recent accidents of both and see how Hamilton is the true 'crashtappen' of the 2. Max was agressive, but in the right. Lewis was also agressive, fun first lap to watch and then he made a mistake. Just own the ff'in mistake and don't go all holyer than thou, there was no way that you could have made it through a corner. Let's see Lewis win without pushing Max into the tyres and his teammate getting team orders. And then he can crown himself. So far, he doesn't deserve it.
@NigelStronge3 жыл бұрын
Max aggressively turned right when he saw Lewis along side him- it was his aggression that caused the crash
@lauriedepaurie3 жыл бұрын
@@NigelStronge Max turned because they were in a corner. Drivers usually turn at corners in order to stay within track limits. Again, 1.5 car's width at all times for Lewis. Lewis was overambitious and took up more space than necessary and (benefit of the doubt: more space than he planned). At no point was Hamilton fully alongside let alone passed Max. Which is why he hit the rear tire with his wing and it wasn't a side by side crash. Which again is why Hamilton should have backed out, in this case the attacker is always 100% to blame. Are you sure you watched the same crash?

It has been repeated often this “move”, and every single time Lewis puts his nose inside someone in not great passing places from arguably not great on-track positions, and makes contact, it is Never his fault. That was quite a unique entry angle for Copse. There was only ever one line he could take through it from that angle and at that pace, and he knows it. He was running wide pre-apex, through exit. It was a bold, aggressive move (again, what he gets paid for) but he left it way, way too late. Matthew from WTF1 is the only Brit that I’ve seen (so far) to call Lewis out for it. Then watching the broadcast team stumble and bumble and grasp for their words in their Very Weak attempts to defend Lewis was the very definition of desperation. If Formula 1 truly wants diversity and worldwide market growth, the English language broadcast shouldn’t be all Brits and Karun (who clearly drank a lot of good ole British tea - I think he grew up in the U.K. ?), because what the world saw on Sky was simply embarrassing.

The fact that the penalty is even at question is ridiculous. It was side by side if not Max was ahead. Both drivers should give room. Also, both drivers assume each other to take the fastest line. Which means Max expect Lewis to hit the apex and leave a car width at the exit. Lewis would expect Max to leave a car width at the apex and go out as wide as he can at the exit. What actually happened? Lewis didn’t hit the apex, Max left a car width. Who’s at fault is clear as crystal The discussion of the size of penalty though is another one
@pyreaurum6763 жыл бұрын
Why should both drivers assume each other to take the fastest line? It's easy to come up with situations where its more advantageous for one driver to sacrifice some time if the disruption to their opponent is greater then the loss from taking the fastest line. If you agree that this plausibly happens and consider it fair race craft, drivers cannot assume that everyone is taking the fastest line. To be clear, I'm not asserting that this is the case for this scenario (eg was Hamilton trying to run wide, sacrificing the ideal line to pressure Verstappen into taken a less ideal line, or was it error out of desperation and ambition), but I am showing why your line of reasoning doesn't make sense to me.

150 kg of fuel at 180 mph at an acute and not a normal angle of approach meant Hamilton would by laws of physics be wider. There is no way his tyres would hold tighter, if he were to try to it would probably have taken both out even more spectacularly. On boards show both drivers did not give an inch but neither did they aim for each other,.though the final turn of max was very aggressive. But regardless the contact was very small hence the minor damage to Hamilton's wing and no damage to his wheel but at 180 mph or 300 kph, that's all it needed. In my view this was hard racing, similar to what had already gone on in the lap where max had been off track and they had already previously banged wheels also. So for me a racing incident but I can see why a penalty was given. Any greater would have been to reinstate the times before Max's and Charles Leclerc famous duels 2 years previously. And nobody wants that. I am sure others may disagree with though.

I honestly thought that was a racing incident the more I saw it. Lewis clearly went for a gap that was more then fair to take, even though he missed the apex I saw/ heard lewis backing off until max turned in to him.
@bertus993 жыл бұрын
Max didn't 'turn in' on him i believe. He has to steer in at some point and he left enough space to the apex. The one hamilton missed and always would have missed with that kind of speed, on the dirt from the inside line.
@maxdenbreejen98443 жыл бұрын
He did not turn into him he turned to make the corner thats what you do in corners. There was also easily room for lewis’ car on the inside of max.

I swear the overwhelming majority of people with the strongest (and most extreme) opinions on the crash have never seen rivals race (and crash) before. This stuff happens literally every race except it's Stroll bumping into Latifi or something so no one gives a damn.

Both drivers could have given each other just a bit more room to avoid the incident, but it happened it is an incident. Unfortunately Max didn't come away from it to give us a good race battle. Looking forward to the next!

Why are you being so reasonable? You're supposed to act like you've literally never seen rival drivers crash before and proclaim that Lewis purposely tried to murder Max and should be suspended the rest of the season.

I agree. But you can't say anything that goes against a driver, otherwise fanbases come for your head
@maxdenbreejen98443 жыл бұрын
Max gave lewis more than enough room, lewis just missed the apex by 2 meters. And please dont say im just a max fanboy because everyone who saw that crash also saw that even with hamilton crashing into max he still went off at the end of the corner proving he wasn’t going to make the corner regardless of how much space max gave him.
@mattdsoares3 жыл бұрын
@@jacobhendrickse4865 And that's terrible because you end up with people who literally hate another driver. Seriously hate. By most accounts the guys on the grid are decent humans (which is more than can be said for many other eras of F1). We've had incidents like Schumi who literally purposely crashed into rivals and you've got people trying to get Hamilton a lifetime ban because he drifted a little wide in a corner...
@mattdsoares3 жыл бұрын
@@maxdenbreejen9844 Yea Lewis was a bit wide, but at the same time Max KNEW Lewis was there but assumed he would back down and turned in as if he weren't there. There's fault on both sides, but more so to Hamilton which is why he got a penalty. This is what happens when rivals race aggressively. This is nothing new, but you'd think this is the first time so many RB fans have seen tight racing before, despite Max having a well earned reputation for pulling moved like Lewis tried to. Max walked away, Lewis got a penalty, it was a racing move that he didn't pull off cleaninly but that Max could have also worked to avoid. It's over, and we move on. This is F1. You don't get to have close exciting racing between rivals without some bumps here or there.
