Not nearly as random as you'd think. "The Internet" has of course nothing to do with it, but early electronics often included EPROM chips, which were UV light erasable, and there is some anecdotal evidence towards the fact that a badly-timed xenon photo flash (which DOES produce some UV) could actually corrupt enough bits inside that EPROM to get the thing to fail. Which is why those chips (easily recognizable by the quartz window on the top) normally had A STICKER over that window, to prevent just such shenanigans.
@0xbenedikt
@0xbenedikt Жыл бұрын
@@AttilaAsztalos Even today, flip-chip designs not covered in opaque epoxy can be susceptible to bright light. For instance the second generation of the Raspberry Pi crashed when flash photographed due to the CPU voltage regulator being in a light-exposed package.

Ignorance is not the same as stupidity. Ignorance is something that can be remedied by education, research and understanding. For every 'fact' that you know, there are thousands that you don't know, and likely never will. Calling people "stupid" because they lack knowledge of a particular subject is rather silly, because you lack knowledge of many things too... but are you stupid?

Sadly true (but brilliantly funny). I was once asked to build a new PC by a client. When I took the finished machine to him he was keen to see inside the tower. He asked many questions about the motherboard and was curious that the hard drive took up so little space. Eventually he was happy and I started up his new PC. We chatted for a little while and I asked him what line of work he was in - "Oh, I'm head of IT at ********** College". I was stunned for some time afterwards.

@@vanjesstube IT Crowd got another series after this episode, so this episode didn’t get it cancelled. The whole show was also made a little before cancel culture escaped Tumbler and gained any real world influence.

Did somebody break the internet today? Whatsapp, FB and IG became an angry child with a napkin

It's [2:58] being a strong example on why i love the humor of The IT Crowd Jen explaining that Society would be torn apart like a napkin from an angry child and low and behold we get a child symbolizing humanity like that But also a secret metaphor in my mind that since everyone at the conference is just as cluelessly dumb, Society to humanity as a whole had already been broken due to extreme amounts of incompetence, The quickening drop of IQ and straight up stupidity in choices to try and make their better future

Your video clip reminded me of one of my favourite IT jokes - it goes like this: A ballooonist was lost with no idea at all of where he is, so he descends to 30 feet and drops his land anchor. He sees a man on the ground and calls to him, "Where am I?" The man replies, "You are 30 feet in the air, suspended by a balloon." The balloonist says, "You must work in Information Technology," The man, surprised, says, "Yes, I am. How did you know?" "Well," says the balloonist, "it's because your answer, though it is technically perfect, still does not help me at all to find my way out of the mess I'm in." "Oh," replies the man. "So you must be a Management Consultant, then?" "Why yes," says the balloonist - "how did you know?" The man replies, "Because you don't know where you are, or how to get to where you're going - you are in the same predicament you were in before you met me - but now you have someone to blame."

Obscure fact. When Jen says, "You really like me!", it's a reference to the speech by Sally Fields to her peers at the 1985 Academy Awards: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4jXhol6fJqAZ9k
