Not nearly as random as you'd think. "The Internet" has of course nothing to do with it, but early electronics often included EPROM chips, which were UV light erasable, and there is some anecdotal evidence towards the fact that a badly-timed xenon photo flash (which DOES produce some UV) could actually corrupt enough bits inside that EPROM to get the thing to fail. Which is why those chips (easily recognizable by the quartz window on the top) normally had A STICKER over that window, to prevent just such shenanigans.
@0xbenedikt Жыл бұрын
@@AttilaAsztalos Even today, flip-chip designs not covered in opaque epoxy can be susceptible to bright light. For instance the second generation of the Raspberry Pi crashed when flash photographed due to the CPU voltage regulator being in a light-exposed package.

Your video clip reminded me of one of my favourite IT jokes - it goes like this: A ballooonist was lost with no idea at all of where he is, so he descends to 30 feet and drops his land anchor. He sees a man on the ground and calls to him, "Where am I?" The man replies, "You are 30 feet in the air, suspended by a balloon." The balloonist says, "You must work in Information Technology," The man, surprised, says, "Yes, I am. How did you know?" "Well," says the balloonist, "it's because your answer, though it is technically perfect, still does not help me at all to find my way out of the mess I'm in." "Oh," replies the man. "So you must be a Management Consultant, then?" "Why yes," says the balloonist - "how did you know?" The man replies, "Because you don't know where you are, or how to get to where you're going - you are in the same predicament you were in before you met me - but now you have someone to blame."
