As Ben said, I’m one of those financially secure dudes that haven’t bought a Staccato yet, not because I can’t but because I bought a dirt bike and a quad instead… it’s not a matter of can/cannot, it’s a matter of what else could I do with the cash. All the same, I’ll probably buy the new Glock mag one cause I won’t have to spend hundreds on mags. I like spending money, but I put at least a little thought into the process.

In fairness a Staccato is a less poor investment than a quad or dirt bike. You can also get Staccato mags for $45, while Glock mags go for about $25. Big scheme of things it’s not a big difference.

I don't like the Platy but if you're so concerned about the cerakote, pick e-series colors. Elite Cerakote lasts forever. And you can get a lot of the parts in Black Nitride. It's still a better competition gun than the HD. It has a Series 70 trigger that can be tuned lighter, steel frame, deep direct optics cut, lots more customization in the ergonomics. The HD will undoubtedly be the better gun for the oper8tors out there.

I believe the interest in competitive shooting will increase over the next couple years. As everyone, for some reason bought firearms in 2020-2024, it's only natural that some will take it to the next level. Going from learner, competent, regular interest, hobby, enthusiast, observation. It will be a small % that make it to that point, but their ego/pride/sense of betterment will want a test, not role playing fantasy (larping), but a measure, being timed and stacked up to other people who are actually trying.

I enjoy your content for sure, thank you for making solid videos! I do wonder though, why everyone makes a huge deal about the series 70/Staccato issue of not being “drop safe”. Many people have since sworn off using these for duty, while EVERYONE is completely silent about how military and LE agencies use/have used SBR’s and various AR platforms for war/close quarter combat, police deployment, SWAT deployment etc when these have the EXACT same “drop safe” problem as the Staccato. The chances of dropping an SBR on the battlefield is much higher than a civilian who carries at the grocery store. The series 70 1911 without the firing pin block was used in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War and soldiers didn’t consider this a huge deal. My LE agency only allowed G22’s (now G17’s), but Tac Response guys and SWAT guys used SBR’s and Yuma county SO guys used Kimber 1911’s and I don’t recall anyone being concerned with the issue. That said, I understand your points and agree that safety is a huge priority, I just kind of feel that since your video, many people are making a bigger issue of it than it needs to be. Side note: Staccato reacted and made the HD now with Glock mags. So if that is the direction they are going, it kind of sucks for those who spent thousands and thousands on their older handguns. I wonder if they will stop the service and production of older models and slow production of their mags. It’s hard enough to get C and CS mags, lol.

The only issue I can see with the glock pattern mags is that the ones the HD comes with are metal, Lets assume they do a metal mag catch the glock mags will have it plastic worn out. So you may still be required to run the stacatto mags at least for duty purposes.

I also have a couple of the OA Defense 2311s, and since they use P320 mags, it's so much easier to get a decent number (at a decent price). As the owner of both a P and a C, I’m kind of pissed. I supported the change to the V3 platform to modernize the pistol, most of the upgrades on the HD, I support as well but now they have dumped on anyone owning a CS or C and ensured a pair of models they ran for less than 2 years will have little support. Mags were already hard to find which kind of throws a wet towel on the theory they couldn’t sell the pistols, they were so new that there exists like 1 legit magwell, one goody magwell, and a mainspring extension. I’ve seen baseplates from one or two unknown companies, no springs for the mags, no recoil assemblies (maybe those are the same as the HD), etc. switching away from their own mag (which every other pistol not a Glock clone or a couple new 2011 makers has done forever) ensures no one will spend the money to make parts for them. I’ll remain happy with my C if I can get parts but kinda sucks they left us high and dry like this. I’m not going to be in the market to replace my P or C so the HD doesn’t do enough to entice me (although happy to see they stuck with the steel frame on the new model).

I agree - I own a C2 and feel fine because those mags won’t go away due to the huge amount of 2011s out there from so many makers, but seems like owners of the C and CS have kinda gotten put in a bad spot with the proprietary mags and grip design. And you know compact and other versions of the HD are on their way…

Lack of grip safety actually does concern me unless they made other changes to the trigger. The grip safety on a 1911 keeps the trigger from being pulled by inertia if dropped on its back. Glocks and other modern handguns have a trigger blade for that purpose but 1911 triggers are straight back so wouldn’t work with that kind of safety. The P320 lacking either a grip or trigger blade safety is why it had that drop safety issue before.
@dylanholbrook6239
@dylanholbrook6239 9 күн бұрын
@@gameragodzilla it has a manual safety to prevent trigger movement, and has a firing pin block to prevent drop fire. The previous staccato could fire with the safety on and the trigger not moving because the firing pin could get enough inertia to fire when dropped muzzle down. The series 80 block prevent that. With the safety on it is not mechanically drop safe for the first time.
@gameragodzilla
@gameragodzilla 9 күн бұрын
@ Yeah it’d be safe with the thumb safety engaged since that would block the trigger from being pulled, but you won’t be able to engage the thumb safety in time if it falls out of your hand while firing. The previous drop safety issue is completely different. It’s a slamfire from the firing pin not being blocked, which the firing pin block does resolve. My main concern is now the trigger being pulled by inertia without the grip safety, unless the thumb safety is already engaged.

I have 3 series 80s guns and most of them have better triggers than all my series 70s aside from my custom open gun (series 70 SVI with a 1.5-2lb trigger). People act like having a fp block is the same as having the mag drop safety on a hi power and that it ruins the trigger. It doesn't. On a good gun the break will maybe feel a ever so slightly different but it doesnt feel any worse or feel like anything other than a 1911. Worth mentioning there's variations on the series 80 design and some companies did it differently such as kimber and how they'd also implement a swartz safety and also worth noting when series 80s guns came out many of them were budget line guns that wouldn't have come with a really nice or well tuned trigger to begin with and would've needed trigger work anyways which I think is a big part of the reputation the series 80 has.

RIA is Series 70 but otherwise you’re correct. RIA double stacks are still based off the Para Ordnance frame and therefore a lot of parts interchange. I mainly got my custom Para frame gun because the frame has higher capacity options for .45ACP. Maybe if Stealth Arms or some other company makes Glock 21 magazine compatible 2011s, that may change (though even those would require aftermarket extensions to meet or exceed the Para-frame mags I have).

As a LEO, my opinion is it will be hard for Staccato to make a big impact in the LE community. Primarily upper tier groups will be interested. Anytime you give an officer a new piece of equipment their immediate reaction is, this sucks. The majority of guys only shoot when a range is scheduled, and any gear issued must be crap. I'm a suit and tie officer so guys in my world want small and lightweight, those are about the only metrics they consider. Also, the skill level across the board is so low there's no incentive for an agency to spend more, especially when a Glock is so cheap.

Huh, the new Staccatos will be Series 80 after the drop safety controversies? Nice. Funnily enough, Para Ordnance frames were Series 80 from the jump. That and higher capacity magazines in .45ACP is why I went with the Para frame instead of the more common 2011 frame. I do want an optic on my gun, though, but the only Series 80 optic ready 1911 slide (both for sale and milling service) is the new Sig 1911 Xfull. All others were Series 70 only. So I just bought the gun entirely and will be taking the slide off of that and fitting it to my gun. Should be a nice upgrade, though. Only thing I honestly would like to keep is the grip safety. Don’t think deleting that is a good idea unless they modified the trigger to have a trigger blade safety. If you don’t have either, it’s possible for the trigger to be pulled by inertia and go off like unfixed P320s. The Para Ordnance frame does have a grip safety so not a big deal for me.

I have a custom Platy and it's 700 dollars less than a Staccato. There are some things that standard 2011s get that I wish the Platy would get. (Like thumb rests that work) But the Platy fits just so well in my hand and it's a laser beam for accuracy. The super deep cut for an optic is really nice to get the optic low to the bore. That said, this HD is a step in the right direction. A lot of good upgrades and glock mags is a super nice feature. I'll hold one when they come out, but if they are like the C/P, it's not going to feel as good as a Platy to me.

For me, the removal of the grip safety is way more interesting than it taking Glock magazines or being drop safe. Was considering a Wilson combat EDC X9 or SFT-9 for this very reason but at nearly half the price the staccato HD is very attractive as long as the accuracy is there. Wilson not only promises less than 2” at 50 yards, they deliver even with factory white box ammo which is a real thrill. I don’t expect the same level of accuracy but for the amount of money to be paying for both of these, it should be stellar, and if it is, then Staccato will have my money instead.

I’m actually a little concerned that deleting the grip safety will create another drop safety issue where the trigger could be pulled by inertia if dropped on its back. Sig P320s had that issue early on. Modern pistols like Glocks have a trigger blade safety to prevent that from occurring, but the 1911 trigger is straight rearward and so wouldn’t work with that type of safety.
@ChristopherGoydich-cb6bd
@ChristopherGoydich-cb6bd 9 күн бұрын
@@gameragodzilla to bypass the firing pin block the trigger needs to be pulled back and held back during the full firing cycle, otherwise the block will simply catch the firing pin and the worst that will occur is a dead hammer (easily fixed by simply pulling the hammer back again quickly, or by cycling the slide). Additionally, if there is a half-cock notch, the notch will catch the sear before the hammer can strike the firing pin, so this is another opportunity to interrupt the firing cycle. If the reset is very short and the return spring vigorous enough, along with a lightweight trigger shoe, then it’s very unlikely it will discharge successfully.
@gameragodzilla
@gameragodzilla 9 күн бұрын
@ Yeah but all of those are disengaged by pulling the trigger, so if the trigger could be pulled by inertia, those safeties won’t help. Just like what happened with the P320. The grip safety, meanwhile, would fall in the opposite direction needed to disengage at any angle where the trigger could be pulled, rendering it safe from that problem.
