My family had a box with colors half spheres and the box said Penta Stones on it. Also it has a card board squar just like Monopoly or Clue would and it had the lines predrawn on there.

Oh Penta Stones I remember that game. That was one my family didn't play much but we did use the stones to mark stuff like hit point in other games.

I used to play this when I was younger. It was just called Go. And was sold in toy stores with a nicely made wooden board and two sets of glass pucks. It's a lot of fun and is deceptively complex.

I believe that Go is actually a slightly different (but related) game. In Go you can capture territories and your opponent’s pieces by surrounding them. It’s one of the oldest board games around. Gomoku, the game shown here, uses the same board and same pieces as Go, but different rules. Of course, that’s not to say the version that you played when you were younger wasn’t actually a version of Gomoku 🙂 I find these historical games fascinating so always nice to hear about more

@@godzillafan4033 ahh glad to be of service 🙂 in replying to this, I looked up a bit about Go. The game is so complex in terms of strategy that it’s estimated there’s more possible board combinations than there are atoms in the observable universe. That’s pretty cool! Have a good one 🙂

If you like games like this, I highly recommend Othello. You start with a near empty grid, with 4 pieces 2 white 2 black set in a square, with each color on a diagonal in the center. Each player takes turns setting a piece. If you have, say a piece of your color at the end of a string of the opposing color, and you place another of your color piece at the other end of that string, you can flip every piece in between to your color IE: Have: B W W W Place: B W W W B Becomes: B B B B B It's a very fun game. Never seen my mother loose.

I’ve played this game but we “made it up” during boring class in school lol, we used grid paper and 2 different colored pens.
@bland98762 жыл бұрын
All I know is that I've heard it called by another name as well as the one you used and even though I neglected my virtual pet to play it I could never beat the computer. Oh yeah there's another game similar to this one where you have a hexagonal grid and in the corners are your pieces you have two and the other player has two and then you can either copy yourself one space or jump two spaces. If your color is touching the enemy color all pieces touching your color change to your color at the end of your turn.

@@bland9876 Sounds like Othello. There is another name for it, I can't remember it though. Same basic game, as far as I know.

Since the subject for groups of animals came up, here's a few more interesting animal group names... Crows = Murder Ladybugs = Loveliness Rhinoceroses = Crash Apes = Shrewdness Skunks = Stench Since I'm an Australian I must also add; Kangaroos = Mob, Troop or Court Koalas = Cling
Great game. I must say though that the original game in Canada is Tic-Tac-Toe

Hi Rob, there is a horrible horrible high pitched squeal in this video - bad enough where you genuinely ought to fix and reupload it. I can help with that if needed as it's what I have expertise in.

Thanks. Curiosity Show was a national science program featuring Dr Rob Morrison and Dr Deane Hutton. It was made in Adelaide, South Australia and screened nationally in Australia as well as in Europe, Asia and Australasia (14 countries and dubbed in German for Europe) from 1972-1990. Deane and Rob intentionally used everyday items around the house (like old rusty cans) so that people could repeat the demonstrations with materials they had to hand. In 1984 Curiosity Show won the Prix Jeunesse International, the world's top award for TV programs for young people. Rob and Deane are steadily uploading segments at kzbin.info Why not subscribe?

Wow, so much to unpack! Did not know about the 3 lined naughts and crosses or the 3 dimensional one (though it could be that I call it Tick-Tack-Toe. Also, a group of 3 black birds is not called a flock, but a murder. Now onto the game: this sounds like a lot of fun. Good for keeping your hands busy over long conversations
@marks69283 жыл бұрын
The collective noun depends on the bird species. It’s not simply all “black birds” that are called “a murder”. A group of crows is called a “murder”. A group of rooks (also black birds) is called a “parliament” or a “clamour”, and a group of ravens (again, black birds) a “conspiracy” or an “unkindness”. (Both ravens and rooks have multiple collective nouns, and more besides the ones I’ve listed here).
