Cynical Lawman But he might not remember all that he's had to drink, or when he's had them so he would just say he doesn't know. He might not know how much alcohol content is in the drinks either. A breathalyzer is just a tool to see how much blood alcohol content there is in his system at that exact moment. He couldn't just know that and neither could the cop, so he has to see if he is in fact over the legal limit at that particular time, so it would still be necessary.

This one time, in the 80's, me and my buddy Dan Brown were sitting in his car in the school parking lot at lunch. Listening to music. Eating lunch. Suddenly the Vice Principle, Stu Elliot, was banging on the window. We rolled it down "Hey Mr Elliott!" "Oh thank God." He said. "You guys aren't smoking pot. @TheSquareOnes
@TheSquareOnes 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the writers "missed" that, it's just clear that there's more going on in the setting than just "people can't lie." Where the line is drawn is extremely fuzzy but you don't need the precise details any more than you need to know exactly how magic works in order to accept a wizard throwing fireballs around, it's a fictional setting that mostly exists to portray something cool or interesting for entertainment rather than to explore the implications of a very carefully constructed thought experiment. People volunteering sensitive information works much better in a comedy than everyone being as terse as possible all the time so they don't accidentally say too much.

@@MrWhateverfits It's because it's a VERY thinly-veiled attack on religion... which, ironically, was deliberately NOT part of the marketing of this movie... Love how they go from a downtown to being on a bridge in mere seconds during that pull over... wonder how long they shut the Cox Bridge down to traffic in order to film this scene...

i am currently watching this movie and Im ashamed of how long it took for me to recognize Edward Norton, I should've recognized by the voice alone, but with the sunglasses on he looks a lot like the bad guy from the movie Ted, Giovanni Ribisi, they actually have a kinda similar voice too. My face when Edward took off his sunglasses was the same face Edward made when he was told the guy wasnt drunk.

Technically the cop would just refer back to the breathalyzer as evidence and insist that Ricky's character is mistaken or unaware of his friends intoxication.

The most unrealistic part of this scene is the cop not wanting to arrest an innocent person.

They edited out the part where Officer Ed explained that due to the 13% of Americans being responsible for over 50% of the murders nationwide, he might be a little jumpy. An incredible statistic, in any country.

And the vast majority of those murders are committed against that same demographic, which is really tragic.

@@peanutarbuckle7397 I just think that if that if people care about that 13% who commit the 50%, then gangs and violent crime should be a huge concern. Police brutality is also a concern, but I think things like making the job of police less mentally traumatizing should be considered, along with more effective ways to weed out "bad apples" (and the good apples don't like the bad apples anyway). I'm coming from a place of compassion and rationality. There are reasons why people who grow up in violent neighborhoods become violent - mainly that they grow up in violent neighborhoods.
