The Invisible Universe: Priyamvada Natarajan Public Lecture

In her live Perimeter Public Lecture webcast on March 3, 2021, Priyamvada Natarajan guided the audience through what we currently know about the nature of dark matter and black holes. Natarajan is a professor in the Departments of Astronomy and Physics at Yale University, noted for her seminal contributions toward mapping the distribution of dark matter and tracing the growth history of black holes.

I feel like this is one of those talks that will be read about 10,000 years from now, with tributes to Dr. Natarajan's contributions to science. I want to comment to show that I was here and saw her brilliance. I hope that our future if it remains, is applauding science, knowledge, and humanity above all else.

Loved your presentation Ms Natarajan. I am not a cosmologist or scientist, but am fascinated by cosmology and try to keep up with the latest salient developments to comprehend our complex beautiful universe. You have explicated so easily and simply with graphs and charts, which I found very useful to conceptualize many theories. I admire your intellect and hard work as a scientist as well as a teacher. Your superb lecture dealt with a difficult set of concepts interpreted through the lens of accumulated knowledge. Regardless of the validity and exactness of present astronomical understanding you waded through a sea of widening knowledge in an accurate, weighted, clear, and concise interpretation of results to date, or, as we know them. I do love these lectures, bringing the fringe, cutting edge to everyone for both informative and interrogative out comes. This particular lecture I enjoyed as I feel that without the interpersonal reactions that occur during live lectures even with a silent observant audience, Priya was able to humbly rationalize her understanding while simultaneously allowing us the audience a peek into who the person giving the lecture is. Which does bring me to my one criticism. Please stop "acknowledging" the land you are on before your presentations. It is no more honorable than starting them with the phrase " we are gonna talk today while walking over the bones of people our ancestors killed, with that in mind let's prepare our minds for a space lecture...." It's not really telling the tale of the people you took the land from, just appeasing your ego in acknowledging that atrocious acts occured while maintaining control of the land and again offering no explanation or recrimination. A stark contrast from the explorative and inquisitive nature of the presentations and wholly inappropriate. Thank you.

But again, the premise of EVERY presentation that PI does is "stained with an ugly truth" right before a presentation from any given person (in this particular video there is no sensible way to link Dr. Natarajan whom has absolutely no professional, cultural, or historical link to native north americans or the loss of their land). It's distracting to me and the audience at large of the CURRENT message. If the apology was to carry any weight it should come from the Governing body that ordered the colonization of north america? Perhaps every time I open an Evian bottle I should acknowledge the atrocities the french perpetrated for hundreds of years. I don't think my significant other would appreciate if after a long tiresome meal preparation for our family, I instead of thanking her, went on a diatribe in front of our kids about the current state of industrialized farming and the monetization of a living creatures very body. Again, before EVERY meal. It's inappropriate. And distracting. Lastly, doing something because it makes someone else feel better is a choice between you and that person and should NOT affect anyone else, especially unsuspecting and involuntary audience members. I'm sorry how Canada, and therefore the perimeter institute, got it's land originally. But PI did not take the land. It was open for purchase which they did, normally and legally. If PI wants to truly acknowledge the plight of those who came before, make a whole video on it with all the research and respect you can muster and publish it one time. Giving everyone snippets of guilt before every presentation is distracting and inappropriate. Thank you.

Great lecture. Hope to visit in person later this year. Thought....Kaluza Klein but instead of compact additional dimension, compact time. One Planck moment of NOW. The rotation from past to present creates negative charge, present to future, positive. Black holes are energy sinks moving energy from most compact state and then through infinitesimal time the Hamiltonian re emerges as neutrons in deep voids between the galaxy containing filaments. The neutrons emerge singularly in most energy poor points, travel pretty far in 10 seconds in such flat space then decay into primordial H. A constant flow steady state universe. A cardioid describes the overall energy shape (0,0) , the omphalos being black hole, the wide curve area (0,2) the deep void regions. Overall structure described by the inversion of the circle. Both interior and exterior regions are our universe. The circle itself, infinitesimally thin, is time.

Been looking everywhere lately for the idea of representing quantum gravity field carriers with ultra-stable Planck-scale bubbles of true vacuum, where each bubble has a negative energy effect true-vacuum core firmly wrapped by positive energy, where the opposing energy values allow gravity effects to be Planck-scale small in size while at the same time being extremely weak in net effect, in notable contrast to field particles completely dominated by positive energy such as photons. String theory loops suggested for gravity quanta have some things halfway in common with this idea if the bubble's negative energy core is displaced slightly to make a dipole, or a little more in common if the core is extended along one axis to create an opposed dipole pairing effect. With the string theory loop modelled as radiated toroidal flow-surface the effect experienced face-on is reminiscent of being peripherally dragged-in while passing through a short hole, as opposed to getting the head-on direct pull of a negative energy effect. Such true-vacuum bubbles conceivably can have zero rest-mass, possibly plus or minus a basic quantum or two of rotational inertia setting it into ultra-slow rotation so it evolves along its radiated path. Simulating gravity with a rate of one or one-half rotation moving from the galactic center to the edge could produce grand-design spirals nicely. Pretty good at searching for new ideas that may or may not actually be new, did it for a couple of decades as a primary patent examiner, but I can't find this stable bubble idea, rotating or nonrotating

My proposal for Dark Matter: It is ordinary matter that is separated from our observable universe along a fourth dimension. Electromagnetic forces do not propagate through that dimension, but gravity does, because it is a deforming of all dimensions of space and time. This hypothesis offers as a bonus a possible explanation for the predominance of ordinary matter over anti-matter in the observable universe. The anti-matter balancing our seen universe is in the Dark Matter universe, separated by the 4th spacial dimension. Assuming Dark Matter has always existed, its gravitationsl attraction to our sun and planets should mean that there is dark matter within the sun and the earth. Analysis of earthquake waves propagating through the earth should reflect embedded dark matter. It may also have a role in causing the reversals of flow in earth's molten core that periodically flip earth's magnetic field. If we can develop ways to reach out along the 4th spatial dimension, we could tap into vast reservoirs of anti-matter, giving us unlimited energy. This is a simpler solution than conceptually creating a new particle that does not follow the laws of electro-magnetism, and that is not observed when we convert energy to matter in the Large Hadron Collider.

Is a black hole really so much denser than a neutron star? As far as I understood for the growing neutron star with a specific density, the event horizon would simply increase and overtake the radius of the neutron star. Apart from that not much would happen.

The math says a black hole's mass is compressed down to ZERO space, and so has infinite density. This is widely (nearly universally AFAIK) believed to be wrong, but no one has a better idea that fits with everything else we know, and we're not able to look inside and see for ourselves.

I think this is one of those concepts that shows the limits [pun intended?] of our mathematics... but not just math, but physics, philosophy, etc. There's a whole lot that's essentially unexplainable from our perspective, so we have to use approximations and allusions and rationalizations of stuff that really doesn't quite make sense. But yeah, essentially infinite density, so it's mathematically it's "really so much denser" than anything that isn't a black hole.

I have a strong feeling that there are different functions to dark matter, in there attractiveness to each other and repulsive-ness of each other, and I have a very simple design, that might correlate with this particle, it is made of 18 pieces in total that is a representation of a circle made of square pieces, with two functions (--:++) on that square and on that particle shape, its function/actions on the outside of this design, and the inside of this design in stationary/bound to form a particle shape.
