I test drove the Ionic 5 N at Everything Electric Farnborough this year (2024) and really astonishing the level of engagement they’ve achieved. I currently drive a RWD GV60 but if the shortly to be released Genesis incarnation is anywhere as good I could be saving up for a Genesis GV60 Magma.

You touch on an important point. Often in reviews it is just assumed that a car, any car, is suitable for anyone. But this thing is a weapon and just like a literal weapon, it takes time and training and maturity to learn to handle it. I can say I really use the accelerative and cornering performance of my 5N on a daily basis* and I love it, but it is very well judged where I do it, where I let of etc and I never put others in danger. I don't have 'moments' or 'near misses' with others. I've been working up myself the driving skill ranks for 30 years, yet anyone with a drivers' licence could pick this up, in a few years for 'normal' new car money. That is quite scary, and not just for this car, but for most cars, in all times. Cliche, but with great power comes great responsibility.... * also underestimated a lot, no need to warm the engine for 10-15min before being able to have a go, literally gold on a daily basis and such a relief

A great absolutely down to earth review. The difference of buying a super car to a family car. The power is far too much for most people and the extra power would pretty much stay unused. If you are a racer going on track days this would be an amazing car to play with! On the other hand it still gives the complete petrolheads the old sounds and jerks made by the car will be ideal to get them driving an EV.

I agree, I got this car knowing it will be thirsty. I charge at home or at fast chargers so this is non-issue even if I am not driving efficiently. Now with winter tires on the efficiency went down even more, but for someone who is focused on driving characterictics over consumption it is just a "funny number" on my screen. For a 600hp car it is actually pretty efficient, since equal ICE would cost a lot more in fuel. People who have owned large engine ICE cars have never worried about consumption or range, only time the number comes up is when we joke that "remember to turn the engine off when fueling up or it will consume more than you pour in".

@StephenButlerOne8 күн бұрын
@@not_the_pasta this is what I ment. If you want performance you have this option, if you want the range the Non N is a good all-rounder and isn't exactly slow. But the difference in consumption is worlds apart, unlike in the ice world. I think it's quite amazing it's now far worse. Also I bet on the motorway doing 70, there isn't a lot in it at all. Plus, you only drive it enthusiasticly probably 10% of he time too. Most of the time we are all stuck in the same crappy slow A roads. I've gotta a Cupra born and most of the time it's just like driving and auto in traffic, great. But once on a B or C road at the right time you can have a bit of fun.
