What we’re seeing is a mature market with a mainstream product. The iPhone is now a standard commodity, rather than a tech luxury and that’s the way it’s developed. Is like a car, computer, or tv. There will likely be changes in design and improving features, but it’s now sold for someone upgrading after 4-5 years.
@MJ-uk6lu3 ай бұрын
I disagree. It's only Apple and Samsung trying to create this agenda, but when you look at Chinese phone brands, their flagships are still to certain degree innovative and really pushing tech limits. But the thing is that despite that most people just don't care. A basic mid-range phone just does everything fine, a cheap phones are often fine too, old smartphone is likely passable as well. The thing is that most people don't really care too much about the most cutting edge stuff and don't obsess over fastest and most capable hardware. Some Chinese phones have Dimensity 9300 chip, it's faster than anything out there, some have 1 inch camera sensors, some have 16GB RAM. They sell for roughtly the same price as Samsung or Apple, but it doesn't matter to a lot of consumer, not even to top 5%, top 1% and likely top 0.1%. Because Samsung or Apple top tier phone is just good enough and even if there are significant edge to hardware, most people hate switching brands and don't see a reason for that. Phones are simply good enough, that just having some edge isn't really important or frankly just having a flagship. Flagship tier phones just aren't really the same anymore. Back in like Galaxy S2 era the difference between S2 and Ace 2 was that S2 could run any game, had no hiccups in web browsing and had genuinely decent camera, meanwhile Ace 2 only ran some games, web browsing was rough and camera was okay, but far from S2. The difference was meaningful to most buyers and thus many opted for S2 if they could.

Made in India (now) vs China (before)?
@dm85793 ай бұрын
@@MJ-uk6luIt's not just that people don't want to switch brands. Samsung and Apple make great phones and you know what to expect from the build quality and support, software updates etc. The Chinese brands are not as well known and people in Europe and the US tend to be sceptical to anything that comes from China. They may be great phones, but when you are spending that much money on a phone you tend to stick with what you know and like. Then I don't see how a Dimensity 9300 or 16GB RAM in a phone is being "innovative". It just means that you are using a faster chip and more memory. But we also know that specs on paper don't mean very much.

I can't help but make the comparison that the Pixel 9 which was released in August 2024 already has both 120 Hz and 12 GB RAM for the entry level 128 GB storage variant. And going back a year, the Pixel 8 which was released in late 2023 also had 120 Hz, and offers 8GB RAM for the entry level 128GB variant. I realize that iPhones are more efficient when it comes to utilizing RAM versus Android. And for the most part, the majority of people who buy the entry level iPhones instead of the Pro or Pro Max models don't care about the higher refresh rates. But when more and more android phones are offering more for less money, Apple finally has to face the reality and catch up on certain specs and features. I also have the iPhone 13, I just bought it last year when I switched carriers. I didn't need to upgrade to a higher end Pro or Pro Max model. I was all Android up until mid 2020 until I bought an iPhone 11, which was a great phone as well. The reality is that since switching to iPhones 4 years ago, their reliability is much better than any LG or Samsung phone I have ever owned. Truth is I am not sure I want to go back to Android and take a chance with reliability or longevity. So I will continue to keep an eye on future iPhone releases as well as Samsung and Pixel.

Nope, Apple intended its use in vertical that's why it's oddly placed and not on the far right of the device when in landscape.
@Darkreven943 ай бұрын
@@arturoalmeida16 Always this misinformation. It’s made to work with both horizontal and vertical orientations. But of course, it works better in horizontal because of the placement of the button. It takes no genius to see that.
@georged8223 ай бұрын
its not 2003 buddy. No one holds a camera phone in that orientation. Its 100% an idiotic feature, and every reviewer (which are Apple apologists usually) agrees, and my main camera system costs about $5,000+ so as a photographer I am kinda annoyed they placed the button in such a silly loaction.
@chidorirasenganz3 ай бұрын
@@georged822 it never had to be 2003 as the first iPhone didn’t even come out until 2007 also why would you use a thumb in landscape is that how you’d use a camera? I certainly wouldn’t and I’ve been taking photos for 20+ years
@DengueBurger3 ай бұрын
At least it’s 1. More reparable and 2. Another button to do stuff on. Say one of your volume buttons breaks. Now you can just use the scrolly thingy to change volume via hardware instead of using on-screen controls.

Oh come on, you know how hard it is to make shocking changes to an already amazing device? A little bit more screen size, a little bit more battery, a little bit more processing power, year over year, it adds up. If you upgrade from the 12 pro max to the 16 pro max, you will notice a significant difference. Same will be from the 16 to the 20.

Sounds like left and right channels receive the same mono signal from the voice while all the background sounds are filtered out. Also there is a boost at 1k-3k region and that's what gives it that nauseous sound.The worst one seems to be "studio". "Cinematic" has too much upper bass, in the 100-300 hz while also sounding like mono signal sent to both L+R. The "in-frame" seems better in terms of spatial audio as it dives the impression of an actual stereo mix, again background sounds being filtered out, but it has a thin sound and for that reason it has no presence. A boost of around 300 hz area would be beneficial as well as a slight treble boost. Overall I would go with "in-frame" out of the 3 options.

Hey you're in Sydney!!... Also you're right about the incremental updates. Same screen specs (0.1" bigger), and the biggest selling point they're marketing it on, Apple Intelligence, isn't going to be ready for a while, even next year. That's crazy to me.

I totally agree with you about the camera control button. It’s OK for opening the Camera app and then immediately using it as a shutter button, but trying to actually use the controls with a swipe always makes me feel like I’m about to drop the phone, especially considering I have a 16 Pro Max.

Yes thank you for explaining where we are now with iPhone updates, they are incremental, as most people only update after a few years as phones are so expensive. Just weird that Ai isn't ready yet at launch. Is it because it doesn't work, or the local compute isn't there or what? Visuals on the video looked great. Sound a bit compressed but clear.

Went from 13pro to 16pro. Overall, great experience jumping that distance, but I have to agree: The camera control button placement is REALLY awkward to use. Holding it vertically, I think if they simply raised the positions of both the lock button and camera control, in addition to placing them just a little closer together towards the top, it would feel MUCH MORE NATURAL to use.

I tried the iPhone 16. It was great except for the 60 hertz refresh rate. The 16 pro was so much smoother and a lot better internet experience with the 120 refresh rate.

I like the camera control for accessing the camera and shooting quick video. But found my finger sometimes slip off. So wouldn’t recommend doing this if you’re shooting for more than a minute. I agree that control button is in a strange place especially on the plus if you’re like me (smaller hands) but if you hold the phone like a traditional camera in landscape, it feels more right. Definitely not the best for one handed use.

I’ll recognize that control on the camera button is not very user friendly - or at least needs some getting used to, which I haven’t. To be fair, in your demo, one wouldn’t hold the phone on a landscape mode the way you shown. You’d hold it with both hands, and your index would reach perfectly well the button. Also, with the index, the control of the button is easier - tho still requires some getting used to. Also, the fact that the physical form is similar is not proper to the iPhone, other competitor have little physical change year after year. Smartphone is a more and more mature market, the form factor has settled more than in the first 5-10 years.

I'll be upgrading next year. I usually upgrade every three to four years, so I guess that makes me average. The phone already has everything I need as a photographer and a regular user of many apps, so I don't need anything flashy to make my purchase worthwhile. I just need a functioning device, and Apple has delivered that flawlessly for me since the beginning of the iPhone.
