The Irish Blessing - over 300 churches from our island sing a blessing over Ireland and beyond ...

Premiered Pentecost Sunday, 31 May - 9:45am I/BST
The Irish Blessing (Beannacht uile-Éireann) is a project inspired by the many international recordings of "The Blessing” (by Cody Carnes, Kari Jobe and Elevation Worship) which have been made during this time of pandemic. We wanted to honour that inspiration, whilst at the same time, honouring the unique history and culture of our island. So we chose a song that would resonate across the island, with every denomination and cultural grouping, one that could be used as a platform to sing a Blessing over our land, all our key-workers and those they are caring for. “Be Thou My Vision” is just such a hymn written over 1000 years ago. It reminds us of the One to whom we should look in this time of pandemic, whose presence is our light, the source of our wisdom, in whom we find our treasure and where we find victory.
Individuals from 300 Christian churches and organisations located in every county on the island submitted self-recordings of vocals and instruments which have been compiled by our creative team to produce this music video - we hope you receive a blessing as you watch it.

I discovered I am half Irish. And, I am a saved believer in Jesus, my Lord. I was thinking recently just how "good" the Irish are in the overview of their history going as far back as Saint Patrick (who came as a missionary from Roman Britain). They are a peaceful people and family loving and humble and love their own country. And I am applying for dual citizenship from the US through descent from my grandmother. She was from Kinvara, County Galway. Proud to be Boston Irish! But prouder still to be Irish!

Hi Sydney I am Irish but St Patrick was kidnapped from Wales as a young boy and was enslaved to attend farm animals ,only after his escape did he return to Ireland to convert the Irish people. I am not disrespecting my country but history is facts...not the story we would like it to be...my name is O Reilly and m thestory goes back to Niall of the nine hostages who has been associated with his kidnapping...not proud of it but it was a common practice back in the day...lots of kidnapping between Algeria and Ireland through history also...a reason perhaps why there is so much similarity between a Gaelic and Arabic...fascinating..check it out

I am researching my ancestry. Last night I discovered that three of my four grandparents are Irish. I was born a Smith. My mom remarried and us children agreed to be adopted as Frissells. I am getting closer to where in Ireland my ancestors were from. I had Hannas and Smiths from Northern Ireland, and Lydons from Galway. I find genealogy very fascinating! Irish genealogy is extremely difficult, and American genealogy is extremely easy! I have relatives (cousins) descended from the Lydons who are O’Kellys and O’Connors.

Struck me as I watched this, they are all the product of Saint Patrick’s prayers and his suffering for Christ. Like Paul he has a multitude of spiritual children! What’s even bigger than that is the thought that I am from a small Irish/Scot fishing town on the panhandle of Florida here in the USA, where Christianity dominated and flourished there as I grew up! My Irish Papa, my mother’s father, was a tower of Christian strength. Borders are no problem with God! Glory be to God for giving St. Patrick the vision and strength to endure!

My family came to America from Ireland in waves. That land has always called to me, though I have never set foot upon it. I was saved by Jesus at age 14 and in my walk with Him, this song has been a deep and lasting refrain. The beauty of this unity as it is sung by such beautifully diverse people - the blessing - the voices of Ireland - I feel the delight of the Lord so strongly on this and I couldn't help but bawl, so overwhelmed with emotion. We brought our fighting spirit to uplift the oppressed and downtrodden because we were oppressed by the British empire for so long. We will never allow that to happen again!
