Irish/Canadian actor James Doohan, Scotty on Star Trek, was on Juno Beach for the 6th of June 1944. His life and the lives of 14,000 other Canadians were spared from the storm of June 5th because of that weather report.

What is really cool is my father, whose mother had the last name of Malone and was an immigrant to America, was one of those American soldiers in the D-Day Invasion. He would have loved to know this. :)

What a lovely video, Clare. You could see the pride Vincent has for his mother's work. Good man. So much history most people would never be aware of.

Sending ♥from America. Enjoy all your vids, Clare. This one is extra special to me. My uncle Jack Sweeney was in the US Navy at the Normandy landing, he came home married and named one of his daughters Maureen. He would have loved this story!

Happy 💯 Birthday to Maureen Sweeney! 🎉🎼🎶🎂🥳 Much love and respect to you, ma'am, from Canada!🇨🇦❤️. I'm delighted to know that she finally became aware of the important role she played in the success of the D-Day landings, and that she has been officially recognized and thanked for it! Always a pleasure to see Dermot make an appearance, as well! Sláinte!

Great story, and how wonderful to learn that Maureen Sweeney is still alive at 100! Lighthouses are so cool; it's a shame that the US Coast Guard has automated all of theirs, eliminating the need for a full time keeper. I'm surprised that Dermot is camera shy, what with him being an actor.

The Irish woman who changed the course of history preented by the Irish woman who advances the course of citizen journalism with each video she produces. My father was dodging buzzbombs in North London at the time monitoring Soviet radio broadcasts for the British United Press. Hi to Millie.

Because the Republic was officially neutral, the fact that they were supplying the Allies with weather information had to be kept secret. It would be a long time before the word got out.
