Quick tip for making the fries/chips not so fragile: Boil them with a small amount of white vinegar in the water! There's a chemical reaction inside the potatoes that will allow them to be a bit more durable, they'll have an actual bend to them without breaking! The flavor is entirely unaffected as well, I promise if you don't overdo the vinegar on accident, you won't taste it at all (not that I personally mind it, I add a little extra for the vinegar flavor myself!)

If you cut hot chillis, it's a REALLY good idea to use food gloves. Even kitchen gloves like marigolds are better than using your bare hands. The capsaicin oil is very difficult to wash off, so even touching your eyes after multiple washes with soap can be very painful. I made this mistake with Scotch Bonnet peppers, and I'm not eager to do it again, lol.

If you're in Dublin or Galway ask someone how to get to a restaurant called "Xian". The Galway one usually has really good spice bags. But nearly every Chinese in the country does them.

As a Canadian who vacationed in Ireland and fell in love with Spice Bags while we were over there - I legit don't understand why they haven't become popular in North America. Especially with Canada's obsession with poutine, we should be all over these. Whenever we've hosted our St Patrick's Day parties, we make some for guests and convert an entire crowd.

My local Chinese restaurant here in Perth Australia has been doing it for a few years now but they call it a spice box. It's served in a pizza box but they also put 15 or so spring rolls in too... it's freaking amazing!!!!

@@mollywhoppedsouls_pvp A chicken fillet roll is crusty demi baguette (about 12 inches) sliced lengthways and spread with butter or your sauce of choice like mayo/taco sauce/sweet chill/garlic mayo etc, a warm breaded fried chicken breast sliced and whatever salad you like on top. Everything is really fresh and filling. It's been years since I've had one and could probably only eat half now. A lot of construction workers get them for their lunch but they're so active they work them off. I'd need a nap if I ate a whole one 😄

Loving how the Irish accent hops from Dublin to Belfast and back again, often within the same word. The Spice Bag hasn't made its way across the border to Northern Ireland - at least not anywhere near me - but I know what I'm having for dinner next time I get the train south.
@AmberJays9 ай бұрын
I'm surprised it has taken 70 years to hop over to Ireland lol. It was created by the Cantonese community in Liverpool back in the 1960s, been very very popular in north England and Scotland ever since and the season mix is a staple in every chinese takeaway here. Though the Irish versions are much, much lighter on the seasoning though from what I've seen.

Salt and chilli crispy chicken with chips and curry sauce from your local Chinese in the North, It's pretty much the same as a spice bag

Im Scottish but ive had a spice bag. This is a fantastic representation. For and extra dimension to the spice you need some szechuan peppercorn for that numbness too.

Cut the potato to cubes instead of chips, cut chicken thigh in to small chunks instead and panfry, replace the sause with laochou, then it is pretty much become a northern chinese homemade dish. This recipe looks fantastic, im gonna give it a try

In England (/ UK) it'd be a salt and pepper Munchie Box, served in a pizza box with salt and pepper chicken, salt and pepper wings, salt and pepper ribs, salt and pepper chips... and extras like spring rolls or prawn toast. They're meant to be for sharing but that's a silly idea, they can get their own.
