Looking at the gut, I thought that was it's ribs poking out... But, considering the beasts have a torso-mouth, maybe those are teeth? Maybe this is the earliest stage of becoming one of those nightmarish hounds.
@Roterstaub9 күн бұрын
I'm with you on team teeth. On humans, ribs 6-10 are connected to each other in the front with a funny bit that curves up towards and connecting to the sternum. We can see both where the sternum is, and even shadows/lines that hint at proper rib anatomy. Those pointies are facing the wrong way, and even look like they're erupting from between some ribs. Given the number of skeletons From artists are responsible for, I'm thinking it's very much on purpose.
@Thatoneguy-hn1jb9 күн бұрын
Aren't the beasts those who wear Sulyvan's rings? I'd be down to believe it's teeth as the beasts being some kind of curse or plauge would be cool. I just thought the point was the rings were the cause since Vordt and the beast on the bridge both drop one of Sulyvan's rings.

@@COHOFSohamSengupta The Elden Ring darkwraith is Ensha: Both are running the whole "skeleton knight" schtick. With the kicker being the DLC's death knights are miles above Ensha. The Bell Bearing Hunter is cool, yes, but he's not a darkwraith, visually at least. That said, Elden Ring does have two separate invader factions, for whatever reason, and neither rock the skeleton look. And Rykard. Both have the whole "Consume everyone" schtick, but Rykard is just kinda silly looking, being a giant snake with a face, well Aldritch is a mass of gore and sludge puppeteering a half-dead carcass. Rykard, as a character, is much better, for what it's worth; Aldritch really didn't have one, to memory.
@kingobama43059 күн бұрын
@@Umbra_Ursus you are 100% right. elden ring was a massive downgrade with many enemies, particularly in the design department. one of the biggest irritants for me is the fact that so many of them wear masks, while others have borderline vacant expressions. (which is why the misbegotten are some of my favorite Elden Ring creatures) in ds3, some of the enemies felt much more expressive. their faces told much greater stories, as to how they felt, and their faces even brought into question as to why they got the damage they had. You could tell that they were in pain, or sad, or hungry, etc. in my personal opinion, the enemies who are more expressive make for better enemies altogether, which is why most knight enemies and bosses are less special to me, with a few exceptions.

@@specialnewb9821 At some point before the events of 1 the gods left for the human world, some had children with humans during this period, and generations later once Gwyndolin becomes allfather (at some point between 1 and 3) and rebuilds Anor Londo as Irythill, he tries to repopulate it with the closest thing he can find to its original inhabitants, that being their human descendants.
@roundninja7 күн бұрын
@@specialnewb9821 Yeah I think people must have come back at some point, otherwise where did Irithyll come from? Either that, or some of them might have never left. I was never sure exactly how empty Anor Londo was in DS1, since Gwyondolin, the fire keeper, Smough, and the giant blacksmith all live there. I was never sure if the silver knights were part of the illusion or not, but overall it's a pretty bustling area by DS1 standards, especially if they were real. I think it's possible that there are still people living in some of the out of bounds houses, since they're still in good repair and look inhabitable, even after you break the illusion. It definitely seems different from a place like New Londo, Undead Burg, or Oolacile Township, it doesn't look nearly as ruined and abandoned. But yeah it's a little confusing either way, I can't say I'm 100% sure where the Irithyll citizens came from.

the gigant sullyvahn beasts are former outrider knights, the pontiff's eye rings point that out. Also those are not ribs, but teeth. You can see where their normal ribcage go. Also, they probably are only eyeless from decay and can still 'see' given the white glow that fills their sockets in game. And even then, blindness is rarely treated as a terrible thing in universe, you have several 'blind' or visually impaired characters in the games that have it be no big deal or not affect them at all. Which is to say, probably one of the most common types of magic is to see without eyes.

@Dr_Evil_Mc-Bad9 күн бұрын
Sulyvahn was all up in that profane magic. It seems that he was quite advanced in corrupting once noble entities into beasts, or beast-like creatures. Devolving them into 'hounds' that serve him like a lord's loyal dogs. Vordt and the outrider knights being the most impressive examples. The fact that it is sulyvahn's rings that seem to have the most relevance to advanced states of devolved beasthood - and that these rings involve an eye, suggest that Sulyvahn was able to get his servants to gaze into the eyes upon such rings - or his eyes in general, and lose themselves, devolving into beasts (you gaze into the abyss, and the abyss gazes back into you - sorta thing). It could very well be interpreted that Sulyvahn honed this art of devolution into loyal beasthood upon the people of irythyll, tightening his iron grip as more and more of the people succumbed to Sulyvahn's tyranny and experimentation. The man-dogs are likely an instance of Sulyvahn's 'honing' of his cultish powers going too far, and devolving man too far into savage beasthood, resulting in a profane monstrosity. The man-dogs, thus likely convey the brutal disregard of sulyvahn towards his own subjects in his pursuit for power and mastery over whatever it took for him to achieve his ambitions. these man-dogs were likely once common people of Irythll, but when Sulyvahn descended and asserted himself as pontiff, his tyranny swept up these people, who were likely dragged before him, and become tortured, and deranged. Sulyvahn would not care that they would devolve into dogs, instead, likely only noting that he best not overdo it, lest he not strike that optimal balance that he would want (and achieve) in what was to become Vordt and his outrider knights. However, such an art would perhaps serve well as a punishment or torture. Once rebellious or disloyal subjects, who could not be trusted to live, were likely forced before Sulyvahn, and any thoughts of resistance against his tyranny lost as such people were corrupted and devolved into mere dogs, who now roam Irythyll as tortured beasts now loyal to their new master - any thoughts of resistance or scheme lost in devolution into beasthood. A useful tool to Sulyvahn, and a warning to others who would resist him.
