Ellie and Michelle, it makes me so happy to see your reactions to this criminally underrated animated classic from my childhood. The movie's director, Brad Bird, made this in tribute to his sister who was killed by domestic gun violence from her estranged husband and his idea was 'what if a gun had a soul and didn't want to be a gun?'

I really don't like the idea of demonizing hunters. Shooting an animal in the wild is 100% more ethical than buying meat from a supermarket which most likely was harvested from a meat factory

People didn't hear about this movie because Warner Bros barely did any advertising for it. WB's previous animated movie, Quest for Camelot, bombed pretty badly, and so WB basically gave up on animation, not realizing how good Iron Giant was. So it took years for this movie to get proper recognition.

I've seen this movie hundreds of times and I can't handle the part: "You are who you choose to be" and the giant says "Superman." Brad Bird made this film in honor of her sister, who was shot and killed by her husband. He came to Warner Studios with this question: "What if a gun had a soul and didn't want to be a gun?" This movie is a masterpiece.

The dark truth behind this film is that Brad Bird went through one of the worst times in his life that sparked the thought "what If a gun had a soul and didn't want to kill?" His sister had been murderd by her husband when he came home one night and shot her. Brad Bird made The Iron Giant using that Trauma and he made one of the best Animated films to date, he would go on to continue making other films that are honestly just as timeless but this film is definitely I believe his most notable film.

One of the things I really love about this film (in addition to being gorgeous and heartwarming and just damn good) is that it doesn't spell out any details. We know next to nothing about the giant, the military personnel, or even the town. And you know what? It doesn't matter! The telling of the story and the characters are so good, the rest of it fades away. I don't know about anyone else, but it doesn't take away from the experience one little bit.

There were two Sputnik Age movies of note in 1999. This was the great animated feature, the other one was "October Sky," a semi-biographical tale of NASA scientist Homer Hickam Jr.'s high school model rocket days. "The Iron Giant" just soars across the screen, and deserved success and a possible sequel. But it's a great "one-and-done" story that Hollyweird doesn't know how to make any more.

In my mind, I created an after credits “Stinger”… Fade back to the Giant’s POV, running through pictures of the characters in the story, the image of Mansley is target locked, a map of his location appears… Cut to exterior view, the Giant lifts off, then dissolves to his landing, a small town in the middle of nowhere, where Mansley is “chief inspector of toilets”, the giant walks coldly over to Mansley, towering over him… and steps on him, squashing him into a fine red paste. Giant’s POV again, the image search shows Hogarth, pan out through the iris to a closeup of the Giant’s face as he smiles, and lifts off into the sky… Fade to black…

world peace!!:) for many years we’ve been in conflict and mistrust because of our own internal conflicts and interests colliding with each other and that all the external conflicts are caused by that!! so to help everyone, we must understand and really look at our own internal conflict to help the external conflicts subside!! so throughout history, we’ve been focused on saving ourselves and our own needs is that we haven’t been focusing on others and how we each can help each other!! this is because we’re wired to trust ourselves and only ourselves and with our own unique individual comfort zones that cause us to not want to change or be different!! to accomplish this together, we have to allow and celebrate our differences and be ourselves at the same time!! so we each can still have our own way of life and be happy with others who are different and every day have new and exciting ideas on how to have the world be more peaceful!! and we can slowly and at our own pace step out of our comfort zones and make a change in ourselves and encourage others, including our next generation!! because we all have the right to be ourselves and the happiest we can be and we can still have our beliefs and values individually and be with others, if we take the time to try and understand each other and then we can live in the world we’ve always dreamt of!! and we can or/and can’t do this

I love vin diesel's performance in this movie he was good as the iron giant, I fixed my only problem with the film was the it never won an Oscar at the academy awards And the writer of the book the movie was based on Never got to see the movie before he died.

This is such a good movie. Hits right in the feels. Haven't seen that dream sequence before, I think it's part of the remaster, for a second there I though my childhood version had the scene censured 😅 Thank you for the reaction

It was on the directors cut and wasn't part of the theatrical release and I kind of understand why. While being a really cool scene and providing some context for the Giants arrival, I can understand they cut it because it would of either complicated the plot or detracted from the theme.
