This movie is so unique. We're having it next for movie night for sure. This scene, a child saves a monster, then runs screaming. Adults won't save monsters. Children are so innocent, curious - yet can be little devils at times. I'm so happy for the portrayal of Hogarth here and throughout the movie. It has such deep metaphorical meanings that anyone watching, no matter the age, can enjoy it on so many levels.

I love much of the storytelling is through implication instead of exposition. Sure, there is some exposition, but there is no dilogue in this scene. What kind of kid in the 50s has a pilot hat? The son of a pilot, perhaps? Hell, Hogarth has a picture with a plane in it. Since this is set in the cold war era, it can be inferred that Mr. Hughes was shot down when Hogarth was younger. And that's just the past. We see here that the giant eats metal, and we see that it can feel pain, which is why Hogarth turns off the power to save him. He's still afraid of him, rightly so; Hogarth isn't some perfect all knowing kid, but he feels what it potentially could turn out to be doesn't matter, all that matters is that it might die. What we see explains far more poignantly than I possibly could

I always come back to this scene. The visceral screaming of pain... Thise horrible screams from the gut renching non stop influx of torture.... It is exactly how i feel, existence is just constantly pumping me full of this endless pain and I feel a supressed scream, like a holler of pain... This is exactly how I feel. I'm tangled in the wires of existing.

The fact that Hogart, despite his fear, recognizes the giant's suffering and immediately chooses to save him as the giant will save them all in the end despite the obvious death...
