I think you're missing a lot of the context for Meduson Meduson didn't act against the puppet Ferrus Manus the Iron fathers had created, he actually believed it could be Ferrus. It was Vulkan who destroyed it. Meduson rallied the Iron Fathers and wanted to attack a Sons of Horus fleet led by Tybalt Marr. Marr and Meduson had built up a rivalry and Meduson wanted to kill Marr at all costs so he declared he was going to attack the much larger SoH fleet. The Iron Fathers repeatedly told him it would end in disaster, he refused to listen which is when they pulled back their forces; deciding that they would never succumb to what happened to Ferrus again and disregard logic for emotion. I don't think that could be classified as a heretical action because from their POV they were saving loyalist lives from a doomed engagement. Much better examples would be something like the Iron Hands' actions on Dawnbreak where they abandoned an Imperial world to an Eldar attack after finding some technology they wanted, or their actions against a WeirdWaagh where they slaughtered a company of Raven Guard when they were engaged with Orks due to blaming the RG for Ferrus' death.

As an iron hands fan there are a few reasons I think they are the best. During the crusade they and Ferrus were center stage like horus sanguinius. On Istvaan they carried and nearly broke the traitor line of the original 4 traitor legions only losing because thier allies at thier flanks collapsed (not really thier fault either). During the heresy with shadrack meduson and the bands of iron hands doing lots of amazing things. Also especially after the heresy for this point they are the most logical marines for a number of reasons, for 1 they know honor is out the window and the imperium cant afford it so they win by using cold stratigies also fitting the grimdark mood, they buddy up with the mechanicius so they get more marines from the mechanics aswell as better gear first. The fact they are beast in combat basically a hard counter to most traitor legions and lots of other factions because of thier martial prowess but also they will just shoot you with a gun if they can instead. They reflect the brutality of war and know that if they were to fight with honor and be great people to save 1 billion people in one place 2 billion people would die somewhere else and that is bad for war. When they sacrifice thier allies and do scummy things it is out of cold logic wich makes me like them and also despite the fact I love the 1st legion they do the same things even worse for no reason or less of one but they are still loved.

Understandable! But your point of Imperial Fists not " jumping on loyalists ships and taking their stuff" is *technically* not true. The Executioners are Imperial Fists successors, they were traitors during the Badab War (due to honor) and they were specifically known for boarding and taking the most enemy (loyalist) ships out of any chapter during the conflict. Also the Executioners would definitely betray an ally if they found that allies' actions are dishonorable. Also shown in the Badab war.

The Iron Hands are cold, methodical and logical in their choices. I don't think they got a chance to grieve for their father, as the Heresy had just started, and they needed to focus on revenge and protecting the chapter and Imperium in any way they could. As a result of the path some of the sons took, they thought the best solution was to rid themselves of their grief through technology, slowly cutting away emotion to replace with cold logic. I believe any chapter in their situation as the first to experience this kind of loss without time to grieve would have met a similar fate. If Sanguinius had died at the start of the Heresy, I think the Blood Angles would have had to be wiped out, or abandoned on an empty planet as their rage wouldn't have stopped, as the events at the end of the Siege on Terra were the only thing that seemingly snapped them out of it. If Rogal had perished first, I can imagine his sons splitting into two groups, one becoming more reclusive, wishing to fight but like their Father during the Siege, forcing themselves to build and protect their fathers realm while the others do the opposite, charging into endless battles of attrition in retribution untill they are spent. Similar to how Rogal felt during the Siege, chained to defend/command while so desperately wanting to fight alongside his brothers. Shadrak was the last part of the chapter which felt emotion, and was true to Ferrus' vision of the chapter. With his death, the legion sealed its fate. I like the Iron Hands, as they are a broken legion who are a cautionary tale of what could happen to any chapter who witnessed their fathers demise without room to grieve/process and let their deepest faults manifest. Obviously, I could be wrong with the other Primarks but only the Emperor knows the truth.

As an Iron Hand fan, I think if those guys didn’t want their dreadnaught stolen, maybe they should have taken better care of it.

Has he mistaken Iron Warriors for Iron Hands because I used to do that all the time as a kid Wouldn't have expected it from an Imperial Fist fan though 😂

The Iron Hands are a fascinating chapter precisely because of the moral complexity and questionable decisions that surround them. The incidents outlined-such as the dreadnought theft and the betrayal at Isstvan-showcase their cold, machine-like pragmatism, which, while effective, often treads dangerously close to heretical behavior. It’s understandable why such actions could sour relations with their allies and even raise doubts about their loyalty. However, one could argue that their unyielding adherence to their version of the “greater good” makes them uniquely suited to the grim realities of the 41st millennium. Their willingness to make brutal sacrifices-even at the expense of their allies-might be the harshness required to survive in a galaxy consumed by war. Still, the question remains: at what point does their pragmatism become a liability to the Imperium as a whole? (Thumbs Up if you admire the Iron Hands’ cold pragmatism-Thumbs Down if you see them as a liability to the Imperium.)

The Iron Hands are traitors. I won’t forget what they did to Shadrak Meduson. At least, during the Horus Heresy, the Iron Warriors never turned on their own legion. Iron Hands are rust within rust without with no flesh (soul) left.

It's sink or swim and the Iron Hands are on the deck of your own boat watching you drown because you're too weak to save yourself with your soft lungs rather than an internal sump pump next to your twin V8 hearts 🦾
