I just finished reading this yesterday! It was fantastic. I can definitely see why people compare it to Harry Potter, but I found it to be pretty different. I was really impressed by the plot twists! I didn't see any of them coming either. I absolutely loved the friendship that develops between Call, Aaron, & Tamara! It was so great. :) I'm super pumped to see where this series goes!

I just finished this book the other day and I loved it! I laugh so much as well during the story and hot excited at all the parts that felt right to be so. I understand how people are comparing this book to harry potter but as you said at the core it's really it's own thing.

JUST FINISHED THIS BOOK MOMENTS AGO PREPARE FOR A REACTION COMING TO YOU LIVE! I loved this book so much, like so much I am surprised by how much I liked it. The goodreads page is FULL of people so mad that its a rip off of HP and im just like, stahp its not at all! YES THE PLOT TWISTS WERE SO GOOD, JUST AHHHHH THE PLOT WAS SO FUN AND GREAT! I agree, Call wasnt my favourite character in the book... I think Tamara is my favourite character, she was great! I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY OTHER THAT I CANT WAIT TO READ THE REST OF THE SERIES OK BYE

I'm not gonna lie, I constantly get jealous because everyone on booktube (no hating I love booktube!) always says that they grew up with Harry Potter, and I want a relationship with a book series like that. This is it. I'm 13, so I'm just about their age. I just finished this book, and I'm sure that this will the book series that I have a Harry Potter connection too, and I'm so excited!!

At first I loved Call! I found him to be very relatable and very amazing. But then I thought that if I met a guy like him I would hate him to the depths of my soul. So I started getting annoyed by his acts and his decisions. And I see now that I like disliking the main character. I like that Call is annoying. In a book, we always get to love the main character, it's how it is and this was waaay different! I love this book! I can't wait for September to come so I can read The Copper Gauntlet [#2]

It actually sounds cool and the fact that it has a magical school and kind of reminds people of Harry Potter makes me even more intrigued. I'm not a big fan of Cassandra Clare, but it's interesting to see what she can do outside tmi series and world. Plus Holly Black, always a positive note.

I JUST finished and I can see where people compare it to HP, but it really does stand on it's own. Plus just when you think you guess what's gonna happen at the ending it hits you in the face with things you could have NEVER have guessed. 4.5 out of 5!

Yup some aspects that form the basis of this book are quite similar to Harry Potter, like the main big baddie Enemy of Death who fears death & hence wants to conquer it ending up creating inferi like creatures, the main character is part of a group of 3 close friends 2 boys 1 girl & a big reveal at the end which is quite similar to a big reveal of Potter 7.. but beyond that the similarities end and the book stands well on it's own. The magic system, the school, the magical world, the protagonist's background & physical disability all add to make it an excellent and fun read. I think it says much about the richness of the story that I am earnestly looking forward to the sequel. Definitely a must read for those still suffering from Harry Potter withdrawal.

I think Cassandra Clare really loves creating characters that don't think things through and make stupid decisions... i.e. Clary Fairchild from The Mortal Instruments :/

Where I saw similarities with Harry Potter and this book was more with the characters than with the magical part of the story. I thought the book was very well written and very fast paced. Am I the only one who think this book is pretty much trash. There are so much silly things in the book. I mean at the begining why they just dont answer the voice in their head, like people who failed If his dad know that ? And why he just let his son go at the exam ? Btw I don't know if it's because I read it in French but writing style is pretty bad. The characters don't make more sense. The main character is suppose to be disabled and can't climb a ladder but can do skateboard ? The over character are either cliche or bland.
