A beautiful video of the river and surrounding fields, lovely childhood memories, illustrating the freedoms we had as children in the 1950s, many of which will never be experienced by today's 'modern' youngsters. Such a shame.

I’ve spent the last 10 years clearing litter from the Slade Brook and River Ise, in total we’ve removed 15 tonnes of plastic and detritus from the area. Hopefully our efforts have contributed to the plastic free vista that she was surprised by. As soon as lockdown ends, I’ll be back on the Ise around Kettering and Barton, clearing up as much as I can. Hopefully I’ll reach my 100 tonnes target in the future😁🤣😍♥️

Thank you for such a lovely short film. The Ise was the river of my childhood too - I grew up in Geddington and the river was no more than 50 yards from the bottom of our back garden (in fact, it got a lot closer than that during the floods!) My childhood was spent with friends catching bullheads, sticklebacks and stone loaches in the river. Such fond memories. The Ise is and will always remain a treasured part of my childhood... thank you again!

lovely film my friend , im 52 and have lived in barton seagrave all my life . being an angler the ise is in my blood and i fish around the cheyne walk area regularly and have had some good bags of roach . its a shame you missed out the burton latimer section as thats where ive had my biggest chub . its a beautiful river and we are lucky to have it on our doorstep

Thanks for this. very well produced. As a Kettering lad for my first 18 years I enjoyed it. The Ise was always part of my childhood for adventure walks with mates in the 70s 80s. I haven't heard the term 'clicker' for years. Did he have 10 fingers or less? There is/was a spring to the Ise just east of the bridge on Deeble Road in Kettering. Great to hear you quoting John Clare. Beautiful video!

What an interesting and quite beautiful movie. I have learned so much. Can I ask, did the stream have more water and flow in it when you were a boy?

Perhaps the overall flow was similar but at that time there were wide parts where you could walk across and pools which were deep enough for swimming but now the banks have been built up and the pools narrowed so the flow does not vary so much. Thanks for your lovely comments.

Hi Dave, Thanks for your comments.. There is not a footpath all the way. On the estates I asked permission but at other times I walked through fields that were probably private. I missed out sections where access was too difficult, but do have a go. It would be interesting to start from the Battlefield streams if the sources can be reached. Brian

Hi, has anyone got a grid reference for the River Ise at Naseby as I'm having a job to find it.

Yes. I used the OS Landranger 141 SP square. The Spring is 699 782. The second source by the field side is 697 788 . The junction at Arthingworth is 751 816. The access to this was not easy and I had to cross over the brook but there may be another way. I did not explore the sources further north nearer the battlefield. Best wishes.
