Almost hard to believe that this lake is entirely man made.

Meh, the DAM was man-made. Nature did the rest.

In the late 80's my brother tried to maroon me on this island but I busted him rowing away in our inflatable raft just in time to catch him.

Yeah, it's become a suburb of San Antonio, rush hour traffic returning home to Canyon lake from San Antonio keeps getting worse.

I remember living out of my car at Canyon Lake during the Summers of 1982 & 83 and staring at this island during the day wondering what it was like…survived the two Summers ripping off Food & beer from unattended campsites, mainly at the Ft.Sam & Randolph Rec areas…will never forget there were several people who lived at Canyon Lake who knew I was homeless and living out of my car the two Summers I was there and not one of lifted a finger to help me

No sympathy here. "Homeless" is code for "I've made a conscious decision to check out of decent society an live like a bum". In this country, there's always work to support yourself if you're willing to do it. Bums ("homeless") choose not to, and then whine because "no one will help them". Help your dang selves. No one else owes you ANYTHING. Your situation was YOUR choice.

you expect them to lift a finger for you when you have 2 hand full of fingers to help yourself but chose not to? get out of here with that guilt trip.

I go to this island to snorkel with my canoe but this is a small island. I prefer going to the larger island on the north side it has a forest, hiking trail and cliffs and you can camp there because of access to sticks and wood but mostly because it is less known and less people go there.

I have swam and kayaked almost every square yard of Canyon Lake, & what We are witnessing is a complete criminal act against the community of property owners and recreational users of Canyon Lake, as the river Authority and government continue the drainage of this Lake all on the pretense of water rights sell-off to Downstream users with no regards for Canyon Lake users and it's livelihood and Future!! as without that lake none of anything would ever even exist.. .

A forest??? No, there's 3 little islands on canyon lake... This one and another are the same size, the third is smaller. I've lived here 50 years... 😂
