Hey, I recently visited your campus Yale University this summer while I was in this academic summer program called DDC. I stayed at Columbia University for 4 weeks. I took like 8 different classes like sociology, film and music production, public speaking, coding, and financial literacy. I had so much fun and I really got a chance to connect with different people. I also saw this opportunity at DDC to practice these studying techniques you mentioned. They are really really effective and I’m ready to crush it in my junior year of HS. I was always an all A and B student but I wanted to make the leap for all A’s to expand my options for colleges. I feel like getting all A’s is going to be effortless now. 😊

Setting up goals in life is important to let yourself focused and determined The most important thing is to respect your time and your assigned tasks to be done in time and seperate fun time an phone and social media from the studying time.

Veil's Summary Notes: 1. Parkinson's Law - Work expands to fill time allocated. Therefore, compress the time for your studies to only 2 hrs per day. You can add more time to yourself if need be afterwards, assuming you feel like doing more. But overall, your day's work is complete after you do those 2 hours. Hence, allow yourself to feel relaxed at the end, to avoid unnecessary stress. Plus even if you did not complete everything, this will force your brain to be more vigilant on the next days moving forward, thus increasing your efficiency. 2. Active Recall - Find and do past exam/test papers related to the topic, one by one, with your FULL concentration. It doesn't matter how many you do, as long as you put effort into each question. Additionally, create flashcards out of them. You can then put these flashcards in 3 boxes/folders. From easy to medium to hard. Of course, review the hard ones more often and the easy ones less often. You can move these flashcards around the folders if some become more harder or more easier over time. 3. Spaced Repetition - Basically to NOT study everything about a test/topic all at once, but to do them daily or weekly, where some days you study one topic, and some days you study other topics. 4. Focus - No distractions while studying. Learn to separate your 'FUN' time from your study time. Instead, you can reward yourself after studying with those very distractions you are NOT supposed to be doing. Eg, Netflix or scrolling on Tiktok like a zombie. Your life, so your choice of rewards depending on what you think is fun. Although, it is recommended to bore yourself to death during your study breaks with meditation or focusing on a wall or your surroundings, inorder to force your brain to produce dopamine during your actual study sessions. This was proven to increase the ability to enjoy the actual study process over time. 5. Wake Up Early - Do your 2 hrs study session exactly from the moment you wake up. If you think that's too hard, then you can do 20 minutes to 1 hr atleast, and the remaining of your 2 hrs can be completed whenever you think it is necessary during the day. Literally within 90 seconds of opening your eyes you jump right to your notebooks and plow through. This is because your brain waves are most suited for deep focus and peak performance after waking up. Science says so. And in that sense, you can do your remaining 2 hrs of study time after waking up from a nap during the day, maybe in the afternoons. 6. Set Goals - Visualize where you want to be in 10 years and reverse engineer the steps. For example, your thought process could go something like: "I want to invent a new advanced robot that will help disadvantaged blind children, like my cousin, to gain the ability to see interactive learning materials directly in their brain without having any eyes. Inorder to do that, I need to gain knowledge on neurology and mechatronics. And inorder to obtain both of these knowledge, I need to go to a prestigious university. And inorder to get into such an institution, I need to perform well academically so I am offered a scholarship, since my family is poor, frankly speaking. And to to do well academically, I need to do well on tests and exams. This goes without saying, but tests and exams cannot be aced without studying. Therefore, I choose to give it my all in my studies! It ultimately adds to my long term goal after all." This will act as your motivation to plow through each material. Additionally, set SMART goals: S - Specific; Notice how hyper specific my example above is. M - Measurable; You must be able to measure the progress towards your goal. In this case, it is scoring well on tests. A - Attainable; It must be realistically possible to do. Don't aim for the impossible, as it will lead to crushed expectations. R - Relevant; It must matter to your life. Why would your brain care about studying if it does not aid to your long term goals at all? You'd lose interest and classes will become a pain. T - Time bound; There must be a deadline for the tasks, or else you'll procrastinate and NEVER get things done. 7. Pareto Principle - 20% of the actions lead to 80% of the results. This means only about 20% of your effort matters to your overall grade. You can apply this to your studies by; a) Focusing on the material that you are weakest at. b) Doing your best to find out what exactly is going to be on the test. This way, you can allocate your time wisely during your 2 hrs of daily study (Parkinson's Law). Doing the two of these will also allow you to NOT waste time on pointless topics that don't really add much to your grade. PS; If you want more comprehensive and EVEN BETTER study tips than this, then respond to this comment and I'll send you a link. Any Questions? Let me know ✌️ Edit: Actually a bunch of people wanted the link in the comments so I'll just leave it here: mailchi.mp/64d090db61cf/awaken-aviels-arcanum

this video made me more excited for my next semester of university. ive been a bad student all my life , my previous semester i procrastinated every assignment and exam after i told myself "ok i have a freaking week to do this, its easy", and still magically end up in the last day or two lol. but now i realized the biggest factor was actually not taking the time to set meaningful goals, that are probably in the back of my head but not actually thinking actively about it. and the other one is definitely not having deep fast sessions, instead ive always been mid focused for longer hours, which depleted so much energy and time

2h won't be enough for most students to get top grades. Work hard if you’re average. This guy is just that talented. There's level to eveything. Some elites have very good memory and understand concepts faster. I've seen some memorising whole chapter in 1hour when i need like 4

@NewDarkKnight Жыл бұрын
@@nisa1616kn Talent definitely is a thing. If you can cover whole study session in 2h then you’re just top 1%. I did beat top students in my class in some exams where i had to study like 10h+ days. But i can't keep up with em. They study 2-3h then chill. Still they constantly get similar result. I tried to follow their technique. It's nothing special. Just normal active recall, cognitive load etc. They just process things faster.
@suoeiya Жыл бұрын
I agree he's talented and therefore the majority of students cant study ~2hrs, yet that's the catch. Studying for me atleast- gets easier. Memorization gets easier, understanding complicated topics and deciphering old texts get easier too. Because of how much you do it and how you find methods that work extremely well for you. I don't think it's rare talent, but I think it's due to practice that he's eventually able to reach 2hrs max.
@SiphoOmar Жыл бұрын

Step 2 is a must. I practiced passive studying, and by the time I got to studying for my license exam, I used practice exam question books, and then I noticed what a waste of time reading the whole book. I felt like I barely knew the subject when I got to the questions and answers portion of the subject. I learned so much more from questions and answers books as they explain the rationale. If you have an issue you go directly to the area needing review, instead of reading the whole chapter then answering questions, getting them wrong, having to go back in the chapter to reread the area needing help in. I am recently studying for another license, and I was dreading it, having to sit in the library for hours just passive reading, and I accidentally purchased a practice exam app. Well, as I started using the exam prep app, which is active studying, using questions and answers. My retention and theory of the subject have improved significantly. I was still passive reading until your video, as I have never been taught how to study. All past instructors just tell you read the book. What a waste of time. Thanks for bringing it to light and sharing. It will come back to you for helping so many. Bro, it's one the best videos I ever watched about studying! Thank You :) In my last year of high school in Brazil, I committed some mistakes like spending hours of my afternoon just studying the theory without exercises and active recalling. Nowadays I see the difference between studying hard and studying smart. I recommend the book: "Aprendendo Inteligência" (Learning Intelligence in Portuguese) by physics teacher Pier Luiggi Piazzi.

Love your sign off sentence, “God bless the hustle, we’re all going to win one day”. “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:6). So nice to see a fellow young person acknowledge God. 🤍🙌🏽

Good lessons .. one thing you might have overlooked is ability to retain what you study. As some students lack that ability.

I really like this quote from a book called "Dune", which emphasizes the importance of trusting yourself: "Muad'Dib learned rapidly because his first training was in how to learn. And the first lesson of all was the basic trust that he could learn. It's shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult. Muad'Dib knew that every experience carries its lesson." Changing your attitude towards learning is everything.

1:57 agreeing with you. I've seen so many people studying for 10 hours and more and do very bad at exams. The main reason is because they're simply memorising without understanding the concept. Only "memorise" is not a healthy thing and it's one of the major factors that make studying boring.

I dedicate four hours to my studies daily, allocating two hours before class [4am - 6am] and another two hours before bedtime [5pm - 8pm]. This approach has proven highly effective for me. In the previous semester, I achieved reasonable results, with a 94% score in applied mathematics, making me the sole student with a grade exceeding 90%. In physics, I earned a 93% score, while in mathematics and academic literacy, I achieved 84% and 85%, respectively. Lastly, in computing, I secured a 75% grade. So i agree you do not really need too much hours to efficiently study.

@Kay-qg1vn Жыл бұрын
@@Reek613 I study two hours, if I start at 5pm, I will finish at 7pm and if I start at 6pm I will finish at 8pm. It depends on what time I go back to res after classes.
@Kay-qg1vn Жыл бұрын
@@wobblestone3148 4-5 hours a day is nothing, if you find 5 hours to be too much then I do not know. I am studying a Bachelor of Science with majors in Computer Science and Mathematics by the way, so 5 hourd is pretty much nothing.
