CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Jackal (Bruce Willis) first deceives, and then kills, an unsuspecting gay man in order to stay in his house.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In Moscow, after FBI deputy director Carter Preston (Sidney Poitier) and scarred Russian intelligence officer Valentina Koslova (Diane Venora) bring down a key figure in the Russian Mafia, they are threatened by the criminal's powerful brother who swears vengeance on the FBI and immediately hires a professional assassin, the Jackal (Bruce Willis) to kill a leading American political figure. A master of disguises, the Jackal believes in total perfectionism and demands $70 million for the job. The FBI suspects the Jackal is aiming for the FBI director, so they consult with former Basque terrorist Isabella (Mathilda May), in Virginia, and Isabella's former lover, IRA operative Declan Mulqueen (Richard Gere), serving a prison sentence. Promised leniency, Mulqueen agrees to help. Meanwhile, the Jackal prepares false passports, secures a customized computer system to run his Gatling gun, and heads toward his target in Washington, D.C.

Which action movie had a villain that won any award?
@DarkLordDiablos
@DarkLordDiablos 2 жыл бұрын
@@flipnasty2296 Acting shouldn't be about what awards you can get as most awards are given not for the performance but to who gives the best gifts to the panel. Acting should be able giving your all to a performance and leaving your mark like Alan Rickman did in Die Hard. There are alot of great actors and actresses who have never won awards but are still loved by their fans because they give a great performance so your question is stupid and HulkSmash's point is a valid one as I can't think of any other time Bruce has played a villain other than in this movie.

@@DarkLordDiablos Actors care about the awards because its validation for all their hard work. I know making movies and TV shows seems easy but these people put in a staggering amount of work and time with the hope that their effort wasn't in vein especially when you get older. Yes, there seems to be bit of panel politics involved but that doesn't make awards any less important because there is politics in practically everything that is awarded. Just because you find it ridiculous doesn't mean awards in general ridiculous.

The Jackal played by Edward Fox killed a man who pretended to close with as he is psychopathic hitman with no remorse as is Bruce Willis’s Jackal. In both movies he kills the gay man as they saw news report on The Jackal to avoid being alerted to the police.

We don't know what exactly the Jackal's sexual orientation is . Seeing that he went to a gay club to pick up this man and that he could have just as well tried to get into a woman's house it's quite possible that he could in fact be gay . He only shoots the guy after he figures out who the Jackal is .

Came here to write the same comment...glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way. The Jackal would've been quite possibly Bruce's best non-Die Hard movie had he simply succeeded. Richard Gere is literally terrible in this movie. His character is worthless, unlikable and has ZERO redeeming qualities, and the way he ends up killing Bruce's character is BEYOND lame. The movie would've been awesome even if Bruce had failed his ultimate mission if he had killed Gere's character and escaped back into anonymity. The ending is literally one of the worst endings in cinematic history. Anybody who thinks the ending of Game of Thrones was bad has never seen The Jackal.

@Drew Smith I have not. That said, and no disrespect intended, I've heard of that movie but don't have much interest in ever seeing it. The Jackal, on the other hand, is one of my favorite action movies up until the ending. Bruce Willis is obviously also one of the best "action heroes" and is one of my favorite actors. That's a big part of what makes the ending of The Jackal such a travesty. Bruce Willis is fantastic in it and the entire rest of the movie is awesome. Then two hours of exceptional action movie are ruined by the last two minutes. That makes it ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING to me!

This is the one scene I think was done better than in the original movie. In the 1973 version all of the Jackal’s partners are brief flings whom he usually kills before they can form a close bond. In the 1997 version you can tell this partner genuinely believes they are in a loving, committed relationship. And Bruce Willis actually does a really great job when he drops the act in a second and brutally murders him without any hesitation. It’s the only part of the movie where the Jackal really felt like the evil sociopath Edward Fox played in the original.

Thing is, in spite of him saying "do you like it ?", about his hair, and "dig in", about the food, the Jackal has absolutely no feelings whatsoever about this guy. He is just an item which either has some use to the job in hand, or no use. He just thinks, 'that's the job' about killing him. Definitely sociopathic, of course.
@SlasherIncorporated
@SlasherIncorporated 9 жыл бұрын
+BrilliantPorth The Jackal was just using him for resources and a place to stay. So, yes, he didn't actually care about him. Killing him was part of maintaining his cover, so I guess it was indeed "part of the job". Even if the most-wanted story did not happen, he likely would have still killed him anyway in order to tie up loose ends.

I'm curious to know how this would have played out if the guy just sat down and ate and didn't know any better. Later that night, would Bruce have continued the act and given him some? Would be taking the act a bit far, but kudos to him on sticking with the lie if so.

Well he's clearly toying with the guy, deliberately making him feel uncomfortable and relishing watching the guy realise he's the killer on the news, so he def wanted to kill him then. Like none of that was necessary, he coulda just shot the guy as soon as he came in the room but Jack likes to play with his food I guess. But whose to say he didn't give the guy some Bruce Willy beforehand?
