Once gunsmith Ian Lamont (Jack Black) finishes his custom mount design for the Jackal (Bruce Willis), it's time to test it out. After determining everything works properly, the Jackal brings out the Gatling gun, forcing Lamont to run for his life. Check out this high-action scene from this classic thriller!
Bruce Willis, Richard Gere and Sidney Poitier star in this international suspense thriller directed by Michael Caton-Jones. A ruthless assassin (Willis) has been hired to eliminate someone at the very top of the U.S. government. Constantly changing his identity and location, he is known only as the Jackal. Everything about this hit man, including his sinister timetable, is a secret. Aware of the Jackal's presence but uncertain of his purpose, the FBI's Deputy Director (Poitier) faces the biggest challenge of his career. In order to track down this coldblooded killer, he and a by-the-book Russian intelligence officer (Diane Venora) enlist the aid of an imprisoned Irish terrorist (Gere). These unlikely allies enter a global race against the clock to stop the mysterious mercenary before he can complete his deadly assignment.

Even more hilarious was the FBI HRT letting an escaped terrorist handle their gear. They let Gere's character tote off a multi-thousand dollar sniper rifle, with the President's wife down range. Only Hollywood. Nice HK sniper rifle, by the way.

Hmmm...did you expect that the disguises were going to somehow have a plastic surgery effect where it was going to re-arrange the contours of his face and body? or, did you expect that he had light bending technology to where it was going to hide him like "The Predator" and make him blend into his surroundings like camoflauge? Your comment is about as hilarious as Bruce Willis's disguises or Richard Gere's Irish accent.

Nine feet? He's an arm's length away from the receiver at 4:09. Those look like 20mm vulcan rounds. He'd be deaf forever after that full auto burst. Our nation's fighter jets use these rounds in their gatling guns. The torque and recoil is enough to slow the plane down slightly with nearly 40,000 pounds of thrust from two afterburning jet engines. LOL. He's deaf and concussed at 4 feet without a helmet and ear pro. Hell, if that was a vulcun, the full auto burst of the weapon mounted loosely on the ground probably has enough recoil and energy to knock him off his chair and rattle the ground enough to shatter the windows of the van behind them.

When Ian (played by Jack Black) suspected that the Jackal (played by Bruce Willis) wanted the heavy gun mount for criminal activity like shooting into an armored car or a bank vault, then he should've realized that the guy could be violent and dangerous. The weapon and frame yes, but the electronics are quite feasible if you know where to look. So this is old tech because nowdays you just need an Arduino microcontroller with wifi capability to control the servos and trigger of the weapon. On the Play Store there are some apps to create a user interface and connect to the Arduino. Then control the weapon system from your smartphone lol

That was the same tension brought out in the classic book: we all know Charles De Gaulle lived on, but the meticulous preparations and journey of the mysterious assassin makes you root for him! @@jamallabarge2665 Yes that’s a great point. Something that is not used in the remake. The original book and film used the real political problems at the time for the back story. Terrorism was rife as well (car bombs, political unrest, etc) which made the French president a very valid target at the time the book was written. I’m not sure how much is featured in the original film (been a while since I’ve seen it) but certainly in the book there is quite a lot of build up as to why they wanted to assassinate him. The other thing mentioned in the book is the Jackal’s fee, as it’s huge amount they have to rob banks to pay him. 😂

@@andrewharper4296 "The original book and film used the real political problems at the time for the back story. Terrorism was rife as well (car bombs, political unrest, etc) which made the French president a very valid target at the time the book was written. " A good movie that gives a background for the original Jackal is the "Battle of Algiers". It can be seen for free here on KZbin. French with English subtitles. Filmed in Algeria by an Italian director with Italians and Algerians. Banned in France for a time. The French military "lost" to the Germans in the 1940s. French military were taken to Germany to labor. French civilians were harassed by the Gestapo. The military felt that they had let the nation down. The French military "lost" Vietnam in the 1940s to 1950s. Some French soldiers who returned home to France were considered "losers" and "failures". The French Army were not going to lose a third time to Algerian revolutionaries. The French Foreign Legion was created to fight in Algeria in the 1800s. Algeria was their home. Without a home, what is your life? When DeGaulle started to negotiate the end of French colonization, the OAS emerged. Part deserters, part rebel Army members, part European colonists of Algeria. The OAS never hired any killers. They did the "work" on their own. In one famous attempt a rifle bullet missed DeGaulle's head by a few inches. The leader of the strike was executed. The OAS spoiled any hope of Europeans to remain in Algeria to work alongside of the Arabs. The Algerian state wanted most Europeans gone. The Harkis, or Algerian Arabs loyal to France, were massacred. DeGaulle wanted to end the whole miserable enterprise. He understood that nobody wanted colonies in Africa. After the Evian Conference, which negotiated the end to French domination of Algeria, he said, "France now lives without drama". Well, no, not quite. France had problems with the Army into the 1960s. There was an amnesty for OAS in 1968. The original "Jackal" had a lot of history in it, and was a fun read. The one with Bruce Willis was both cool and silly.

@Bread Toasted: When Bruce tests his first shot, he misses "by 3 mm". Under the same conditions, the error is increased/decreased the farther/closer the next target is. Uncompensated error can cause a complete miss of Jack, or hit him. Not good. The system wasn't automatically tracking the target. Bruce used a laptop to do remote control of the gun. The scope view is displayed on screen, and he follows his target by using the joystick. The knob on top is used to adjust the focus.

@@RealNotallGaming yes and no. Some can fire up t0 3000m effectively. BUt that's best case with the best man on the weapon which isn't always the case. Also, in the movie, it's meant to be a Polish ZSU-33 14.5mm but it's actually a Browning M2HB dressed out to look like one. The Browning M2 is not a very accurate weapon to say the least. Also, belt fed machine guns CAN be accurate at range, but that's not what they're used for nor designed for. They're designed to spray lots of lead in a general area to provied suppressive fire. There are some more modern M2 Variants that are fairly accurate though.

I think he knew that, and it really didn't matter that much to him. If Jack Black's character just gave him everything as agreed, Willis' would have just taken everything and left. This was just all payback for trying to blackmail him and he wanted to make it painful in every way.

@@adamrobinette6832 not really. The Jackal did criminal business with people who weren't about to blab about their own offences (e.g. the passport forger). Lamont was clearly a loose cannon and therefore a liability. If he'd kept it professional the Jackal would have simply moved on. As it is, the dead body alerted local police and they notified the FBI immediately. If anything the Jackal should have just killed Lamont with a silenced handgun and then hidden the body in the forest to avoid detection.
