Please note that the bass line recorded on the album, was not played by Jermaine Jackson. It was played by veteran sax player, and multi - instrumentalist, Wilton Felder. WF played as a jazz sax man for the (Jazz) Crusaders, and may top notables for many decades. He also played bass on a number of Crusader songs such as "Street Life" and many others.

@andrewkarp50674 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with you-Provided the bassist can play it up to tempo and in the original key... it’s certainly an intermediate player’s part. It’s truly a great song to practice to. The bass fuels the entire arrangement, lots of chord changes, tempo, lots of string skipping for both hands, muting is critical, lots of sections require real strength in the fretting hand in order to play four frets apart, and it’s in an unusual key for most pop songs. It’s a great exercise when played very slowly. It’s can really be a workout... One of my favorite songs ever. Wilton Felder just kills the bass line!

@@rileym6125 He barely plays staccato tho :/
@rileym61254 жыл бұрын
@@Rio-lc3fv He still does though, and it makes the fills quite a bit easier when the sponge is already dampening the vibrations. And regardless of how much he intentionally plays with a staccato tone, the sponge is there to ensure that the notes are less legato overall.
@Rio-lc3fv4 жыл бұрын
@@rileym6125 I agree with what you're saying now but not what you said before, because it obviously isn't permanent staccato if he doesn't even play that much staccato to begin with. I understand that it probably was an easier way to tell that than explaining how everything works, although you could've said that it gives you a kind of dampened sound instead. Anyway, I didn't comment to start a big argument so I'll be going now, hope you have a great day!

Fantastic set of play along songs with tabs. I love it. Thanks for everything. Just curious, but why not tune down a semitone to play this? It’s a lot easier, I think. Much more access to open strings. A lot less pinky, though everyone’s pinky should be strong. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wilton Felder tuned down. A lot of those cats did in those days to accommodate the horns which are pitched in flat keys. Keep up the great work.
