Michael was actually 11 years old and youngest member at the airing of this live performance. STAND was the cover of a Sly and The Family Stone protest song from the civil rights era. The Jackson Five from left to right Tito (second oldest), Marlon, Jackie (oldest), Michael, Jermaine (3rd oldest). Ed Sullivan was a journalist who became a host of his own variety show from 1948 thur 1971.

If you watch his eyes you can see the couple of parts when he knows that he hit it and earning the right to be allowed to freestyle a little bit with his dance moves and singing without getting in trouble. By the third song, he was totally warmed up and and even his smile was involuntary. He had earned a free pass to do whatever he needed to do and his eyes looked like he felt he was flying. ❤️

Michael was born and blessed with the gift of singing. God bless him and his brothers gracing us with their talent. I grew up listening to them (I was born in the 60's) and loved their sound from the first time I heard them. Great reaction sir.

What a show. They were all great but MJ was the little prodigy. You could see snippets of the trademark MJ that would appear years later 15:19 (the facial expressions) and 19:01 also. Mixed with all his spins etc. 18:00 was funny also (very popular dance at the time).

Thank you! You should see him when he was younger. He sang like this when he was younger than 10 years old. When I was about 20, I listened to the Jackson Five all the way from near Shreveport, Louisiana to Houston, TX. I heard ABC so many times that I got sick of it. That didn't last long, after a day or so I danced to it. I loved "The Jackson Five". My favorites were Jermaine and Michael. Your energetic review was so good!

Randy was born in 1961 (he was 8 around this performance, he wasn’t here tho because he didn’t join the group until 1972 and officially in 1976) Michael was born in 1958 (he was 11 in this performance) Marlon on the second left side he was born in 1957 (he was 12 in this performance, him and Michael were the closest brothers) Jermaine is on the far right playing the bass and lead singing he was born in 1954 (he just turned 15 here) Tito is on the far left next to Marlon playing the guitar he was born in 1953 (he was 16) and the oldest brother Jackie in the middle the tallest he was born in 1951 (he was 18)

They started the group when MJ was 5. They would go to school and go home to rehearse, and travel to venues in Chicago and NYC, perform and get back to go to school the next day. Very hard workers and seasoned professionals by the time they were signed. Every boy band after followed their formula including the falsetto lead. He’s very soulful. I think Smokey recorded Who’s Loving You before J5 but no one remembers that version.
